Holding Out For A Hero Lyrics
Where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods?
Where's the street wise Hercules to fight the rising odds? Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed? Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need I need a hero I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night he's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fast and he's gotta be fresh from the fight, fresh from the fight Somewhere after midnight In my wildest fantasy Somewhere just beyond my reach There's someone reaching back for me Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat It's gonna take a Superman to sweep me off my feet I need a hero I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night he's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fast and gotta be fresh from the fight I need a hero I'm holding out for a hero till the morning light He's gotta be sure and he's gotta be soon And he's gotta be larger than life, Larger than life Up where the mountains meet the heavens above, Out where the lightning splits the sea I would swear that there's someone somewhere watching me Through the wind and the chill and the rain and the storm and the flood I can feel his approach like a fire in my blood He's like any kid in a small town, They said he couldn't do it, He knew he had to. Hero Hero Hero Hero Hero Hero Hero Hero Hero

i think people need to stop being so sensitive, especially since the original was made in the 80s, so it might be cheesey to some.
i also think this song was made more original with the screaming at the end. i love it. it makes it theirs, if you ask me. i was actually a little bored with the song until i heard the screaming at the end.
they might have also just made a cover of this song, and not directed it to something about Jesus.

The original was some cheesy awful 80's power type ballad thing. I cant remember who the original was by, but for that i'm quite thankful.
I remember the video, having lots of sweaty men, possibly firefighters in it. Its literally the woman wanting a man. Emery have covered in, slightly tongue in cheek.

"Up where the mountains meet the heavens above,
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I would swear that there's someone somewhere watching me"
I could see that as being an allusion to Christ.
"He's like any kid in a small town,
They said he couldn't do it,
He knew he had to."
Nazareth was a small town-it was also Christ's home town.
The original is about wanting a man. I think that their version is kind of a joke, but it's possible that they're actually talking about holding fast to the faith that Christ is coming and they won't put their faith in something weaker than that.
Or maybe it's just one of the best covers I've ever heard and I'm putting way too much thought into this. One of the two.

I just figured it was about needing an idol, like some kid needs that idol to inspire him.. but the idol's really gotta be good to be the kid's idol.
I was probably wrong. haha.
I hate when ppl do this on SoundMeanings but.. :
I like this song because it sounds so 80's, then it gets all hXc and the screamo part just kicks in when you think the song is over. :D
