Lyrics for Wings of a Butterfly as interpreted by superted

Wings of a Butterfly Lyrics
Heaven ablaze in our eyes
We're standing still in time
The blood on our hands is the wine
We offer as sacrifice

[Chorus]
Come on, and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul

This endless mercy mile
We're crawling side by side
With hell freezing over in our eyes
Gods kneel before our crime

[Chorus]
Come on lets show, them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
Don’t let go
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
For your soul

[Chorus]
Come on, and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
Don’t let go
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly) [x2]

For your soul

HIM is NOT a satanic band.
I've heard Ville Valo say it many times. Just coz their full name is "His Infernal Majesty" doesn't mean they are satanic. I dont really know what this song acctually means but I do know its not satanic. And I also know that HIM KICKS ASS!!!

I'll be completely honest with you. This is the only Him song I have ever really sat down and listened to. My brother got me hooked on it 'cause I heard it from his room... I don't really know what it is about the song, but something just makes me like it... If that made any sense

This song is about some kind of black magic ritual that is opposed to the gods and making yourself a god. It sounds kinda weird, but look at the lyrics.
"Heaven ablaze in our eyes" Paradise is up in flames and ville valo and his girl are witnessing it
"We're standing still in time" they now exist in eternity
"The blood on our hands is the wine we offer as sacrifice" They have killed (someone in heaven) and are offering the blood as sacrifice. This is somewhat similar to the eucaristic sacrifice in the catholic church where the preist offers wine and it becomes the sacrifice of christ on the cross.
Ripping out the wings out a butterfly is considered bad luck by superstitious types, so commanding someone to do it for the good of their soul shows some form of inverted thinking
"Gods kneeling before our crime" now they are superior to the gods and they kneel before them.

good song, though most people will probably disagree with my interpretation lol

So, I dated this virgin one time. She was the typical conservative, naive sheltered type. Like all of them are she was attracted to "bad boys".... like I was. I think she liked the challenge of changing or molding them. Before we started dating, we both agreed not to have sex. At first I did not like the idea, but after awhile and after months and months of her dragging me into church hung-over on Sunday mornings I finally began to "see the light" as she put it. I quit drinking, looking at porn and all the other typical frat boy stuff. I had become a completely different person. I totally stopped tempting her sexually because I felt bad for trying to destroy something so sacred, so pure. I remember telling her time and time again how much I respected her for having the self control to turn down my sexual advances; and telling her how much in awe I was by her incorruptibility. However, about month later she apparently had a change of heart about the whole chastity/sex before marriage issue. She told me one night that she really loved me and she was ready to take it to the next level. She said that she did not care what the Bible said or what anyone thought. I was dumbfounded to say the least. I told her NO and that there was no way that I would take something from you that meant or that had meant so much to her. I did not want be the one responsible for her regret that I was positive would come the second after we finished. She then told me that if I really loved her I would do it. Obviously, I loved this girl with all of my heart...and NOTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING WOULD KEEP ME FROM HER OR HER FROM ME. I HAD TO, NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT HURT, DISTROY THIS BUETIFUL, PURE REALATIONSHIP WHICH I HAD CHERISHED FOR SO LONG .I was so worried about her thinking that I didn’t love her; and I was terrified of her leaving me. I gave in. out of fear of losing her. I felt horrible afterwards...like I had just taken something wonderful and sacred away from her that she could never get back. So, if you think about it, I felt like I had to destroy something beautiful (or rip out the wings of a butterfly) to show my love for her. I had to, in a way, hurt somebody in order for them to love me…in a dramatic, poetical sense. I love Ville…always so dramatic

This was like, the first song I heard of HIM. I feel in LOVE with it, so I looked up all kinds of other HIM stuff, and sheah. That started my 'little' obsession. =) But, yeah. I love the song. Love the lyrics, though they pretty much, don't make sense. Haha. I love it. =)

I heard that someone once referred to the Catholic Church as a butterfly, so it might be a playoff of that. This songs alright, but the new CD is the best by far. BLEED WELL!!

I only heard of HIM in 2005 (was more into Guns n Roses, Pantera and Iron Maiden) and this was the first song I ever heard of them. So it means alot to me, cos it introduced me to my favourite band. Now I've got absolutely every song they ever made. But one question, is the title RIP OUT THE WINGS OF A BUTTERFLY, as it is on the cd cover itself, or simply WINGS OF A BUTTERFLY? Anyway, great song from the best band to ever grace this world

i love that people have so many different interpretations of the song, but i have to say that it truly bothers me that there are so many people saying, "oh this IS what it means." Excuse my french , but f*** that. It's whatever you want it to be. That's what music is.

As for starters, I am not a fan of this band but some of there song are exeptionaly good in my opinion, this for example.
I can't confim this but i think it's quite reliable. my friend is a big fan of H.P. Lovecraft, the writher of The Call of Cthulhu. this friend of mine said that the lyrics are taken almost straight from one of the novel of Lovecraft.

That could be what Ville was talking about this cult or myth or something.. as for those you don't know about cthulhu mythos books, there is a fictional religion where people pray for "The great Old Ones" demigods of monstrous forms. horror filled books i suggest you people look out if you like to read.

And for the guys saying this song is about devil or satan or whatever and against the word of "god" (no i'm not an atheist, I am an pagan) i don't think it's about that, for all i know yes the band name stands for His Infernal Majesty... So fucking what?
and for all I know about this, i heard the band shortened it to him just 'coz they did not want there band to be thinked as a devilworship band. I don't think most of the band and artists of the world really think about god or satan making theese lyrics... but well i ques you can allway relate anything to god or satan and lots of other bullshit.

Here is a great example:

Heaven ablaze in our eyes
We're standing still in time
The blood on our hands is the wine
We offer as sacrifice

They wake up in the morning in a huge hangover so sun hurts their eyes,. their head hurts so bad and they want to throw up and it just doesn't seem to stop (the standing in time). the blood is really blood the have had a rough drinking evening and the sacrifice thing is that they accept its loss for having a good night out.

Sounds like shit?
Well to me, relating everything to god and satan is jsut as interesting as stiking your own head in to a bucket and trying to lik your shoulder.

Have fun ^^

I just wanted to point out something....
In the chorus, it says:

For your soul, my Love,
Rip out the wings of a butterfly.

If you're thinking too much, and you know a little bit of greek.... The greek word for both 'soul' and 'butterfly' is the same--psyche.
So, now. Think of it that way. Perhaps it's saying that to save your own soul, you have to destroy someone elses....
Whichever.

i think it means that sometimes u have to do sumthing bad or "sinful" to be with the one you luv because it says "for your soul, my love.....rip out the wings of a butterfly" and that your soul means your freewill to luv who u want

I think this song is talking about sacrificing for your love, it's endless pursuit and how you'll do anything for it.
