Lyrics for Wings of a Butterfly as interpreted by superted

Wings of a Butterfly Lyrics
Heaven ablaze in our eyes
We're standing still in time
The blood on our hands is the wine
We offer as sacrifice

[Chorus]
Come on, and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul

This endless mercy mile
We're crawling side by side
With hell freezing over in our eyes
Gods kneel before our crime

[Chorus]
Come on lets show, them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
Don’t let go
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
For your soul

[Chorus]
Come on, and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
Don’t let go
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly) [x2]

For your soul

The guitar riff is fantastic. If the standard of the lyrics was why I listen to Him i'd be a little worried..But its a good song.

And StarveUrFear...There is nothing wrong with getting into a band because you saw them on mtv. Surprise suprise, thats how most people end up listening to a band- Hearing them through the media. I started listening to HIM after seeing Wicked Game on a music video program. Wow, what a poseur bitch I am. And as for hating/liking HIM based on one song..You've heard one you've heard them all.

NO question that the vocals kick some major ass. H.I.M. is the best when it comes to capturing the truth about love and death. Ville has an awesome talent of displaying emotion in his voice. I belief that this song is calling out someone who is full of "love" and showing that they really are hateful and just like the rest of us.
Hey-rodrigos-I drink blood whenever possible. Not Satanic but rather gothic/christian

I find the lyrics of these HIM songs very vauge. I enjoy good poetry as much as the next guy. I don't appreciate the confusion between faiths!
I respect a Christain trying to reach out to those who don't hear the message in other arenas. However, I would appecitate some upfront answers from the band itself.

Just another emo/pop band with no talent that has become popular because of MTV...what the hell has music become?

i'm not sure why, but when i hear this song i have a picture in my mind from buffy the vampire slayer. you know, the underground cave where the vampire king or whatever lives? i imagine some sort of vampire initiation ritual going on there whereby you have to rip out the wings of a butterfly to become immortal. i know, i'm strange, don't ask me where i got that from.

I do have to agree with Walking Behind on one thing in his/her post. HIM has changed, they aren't the same band they were when Razorblade Romance came out. I personally like the new stuff. It is a really significant change for the band and I do hope they write more hit songs in the future and make it as big as they can get. They really do deserve to make it really big.
As for the meaning of the song, I agree with stigmatacornholio about his/her views of the song. Too me it represents innocence as a small child ripping out the wings of a butterfly, because they do not know the hamr they caused to it. Really good song though.

I really enjoy this song. IMO he's singing about how organized religion affects people. He's singing about an innocent person perhaps a child, being corrupted by an adult, getting their wings ripped out. The innocense and free spirt of a child being destroyed and their heads filled with religion. The free spirit is now controlled and can no longer fly.

"And for all That Dont Know what that stands for it is His Infernal Majesty" - Starveurfear
Actually, it's not. According to Ville, HIM is just three letters pronounced pretty much the same in every language. His Infernal Majesty was a shitty band (techno I think, not quite sure) from the states that sued HIM for their name. That's why they temporarily changed their name to 'HER'. But then the other band broke up so they took HIM back. They've started adopting His Infernal Majesty since most people believe that it's their correct name, but HIM still doesn't actually stand for anything.
As for the meaning of the song, I think it's about destroying something beautiful and innocent to live forever.

I know what this song means, its pretty simple if you look at it. The guy who seems to be evil is offerering the girl to join him, and abandon everything she knows for him, so inb context its about good and Evil, hes evil shes good.

"Come on, and show them your love" SHow the how much you love them, by destryoying them, its like a mock.
"Rip out the wings of a butterfly" Butterfly is a metaphor for the weak or helpless, and what Ville means is basically they look up to you, tear them apart and destroy something that cant fight for itself.

"For your soul, my love" He means blacken your soul by doing this, and my love goes without saying.

So basically hes making an offer to her, and tempting her to join him and be by his side destroying them.

"This endless mercy mile
We're crawling side by side
With hell freezing over in our eyes
Gods kneel before our crime"
Hes saying this mile or the distance they seem to be crawling is getting them nowhere, they dont seem to be moving, and hell freezing over in their eyes, all that she thought was impossible as the saying "when hell freezes over" well what she thought was imnpossible or unimaginable seems to be happening, and "Gods kneel before our crime" They are inlove, and care for eachother, the Gods which are like their armies and parties if u want to say or frowning upon them because them being inlove is a crime.

This song is great and the video rocks totally

"gods kneel before our crime" its a way of saying, they fall to their knees, which makes this line almost funny.

musicOMH.com: The new single, (Rip Out The) Wings Of A Butterfly, is very catchy and upbeat, but what's the title all about?

Ville: I have no idea what the f**k it's all about! [Laughs.] No, I read about some ancient myth or legend - I can't remember but it wasn't a Finnish one - saying that immortal souls have the wings of a butterfly. So I was thinking, for me, it was more about "rip out the wings of a butterfly for your soul". I was thinking: 'Are you willing to destroy your past and burn some bridges down to be able to step up to the next level, in a relationship or even spiritually?'

morbidlybeatup--okay sweetheart---don't talk about things you don't know. HIM STARTED as his infernal majesty---now stay with me on this--when they wanted to get their first album (that would be Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666) In order to get it signed they had to tell everyone (the press and their fansite included) that they were NOT in any way related to His Infernal Majesty.(But if you look at their original EP 666 ways to love they had His Infernal Majesty on the bloody cover) They got signed and the rest is history. And the reason why they were called HER in the start in the states was because there was a Chicago based Jazz band call HIM. They already had copyright laws in the states so Finnish HIM had to go by HER for a while but then later paid the American HIM so they could have the name internationally.
