Lyrics for Wings of a Butterfly as interpreted by superted

Wings of a Butterfly Lyrics
Heaven ablaze in our eyes
We're standing still in time
The blood on our hands is the wine
We offer as sacrifice

[Chorus]
Come on, and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul

This endless mercy mile
We're crawling side by side
With hell freezing over in our eyes
Gods kneel before our crime

[Chorus]
Come on lets show, them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
Don’t let go
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
For your soul

[Chorus]
Come on, and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
Don’t let go
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly) [x2]

For your soul

yea i agree.... very catchy tune ...uncharacteristic from h.i.m i believe that this song is beautiful but it needs a little more lyrics and it would be perfect.... whereas for the meanin im not sure ....but my wild guess is taht her soul needs the wings ofa butterfly in order to be set free n fly away ..... so ...show them your love BY lettin ur soul free kinda thing if u know wat i mean...anywayz yea him roc

"rip out the wings of a butterfly for your soul"
"We offer as sacrifice "
"Come on, and show them your love"

sounds a bit like a satanic ritual, torturing a butterfly as a sacrifice. i dunno, thats just what it sounds like. great song though, sounds great

Apparantly it's about destroying beauty for your own benefit. Good meaning, but doesn't hide the fact that Valo can't write an interesting or original lyric to save his skin. I can't think of a single HIM song that doesn't basically say "I love you, and we're going to Hell".

This song reminds me of how far people would be willing to go to be with the one they want.

even willing to destroy something beautiful for love.

thats what i get outa this song

A very good song, but i agree, it needs more lyrics to be as good as it's capable of being. I'm still a bit confused about the ripping of the wings though. :\ But other than that, another god romance song.

this is a awsome song but as far as i can tell i got no clue wat its talkin about, about all i could get out of it is if a "butterfly" is supposed to be compared to a angle or something and since like asitbegin said " I can't think of a single HIM song that doesn't basically say "I love you, and we're going to Hell". " mabe he is tryin to say commit a crime like ripping out the wings of a angle so his love's soul comes with him to hell? or does that not make sense

"Rip out the wings of a butterfly" means thet your love for another is soo strong, that you would destroy the life of such a delicate life to have it last forever. Its not satanic, or rituaistic. further more, this is a site to explain the meanings of songs, not a site for telling everyone how much you love the song.

Seems like its slightly about jealous Show me your love and rip out the wings of a butterfly.. Like, if you love me, you'll end it with her/him.

The wings of a butterfly are very delicate, and even the slightest touch can harm them. To me, this song is about how even the slightest harm to somebody can be deathly painful to them.

AsItBegan makes a good point, but let me elaborate. The butterfly represents delicate beauty, perhapes even grace. The song sais that "if you truel love me show it by sacraficing this thing of beauty, and togeather we shall bring 'the gods' to thier knees with the weight of our crime.

hey, I just got an account for this cause my friend, this woman friend of mine, and I were talking about him. Cause my riend thinks that H.I.M. is a christian band. And we think that, that would be cool. Cause were christians> But I'm a little more skeptical about it cause there are some weird things about H.I.M. So ive been trying to find out some stuff about H.I.M. And if any of you guys have any solid information, that would be great. I personally am confused with what the band thinks as far as religion. They have these little hints that they might be christian, but then they have hints that they're not christian. And they do these other little things that might make one think that they're satanists. For example: I went to heartagram.com and found out some stuff about the band. It said ville valo's favorite dish and drink were the the body and blood of christ. That could go either way. I mean, it could mean that ville takes communion, or it could mean that he eats jesus. So Idk. And then they have songs about suicide. But then I was at they're concert in Minneapolis on October 21st. And ville said to the crowd that "under the rose" is a song, based on something from a book called "the davinci code" (sp?) and that book is basically an attack on christianity. But then his exact words were "even though that book is dumb as f@#!" So that was a good sign. But I still dont know. So if any of you could help me out that would be great. E-mail me at vanssk8rman@hotmail.com if you know anything

I love HIM but I just really can't love this CD its almost a repeat of DSBH but even in those days HIM stayed in their roots but just didn't grow. Dark Light it almost seems to just go backwards on the progress they made with the album Love Metal. A lot of repeats of past songs (as far as the vibes and basic undertone and chord progression) Like Killing Loneliness was a more pop genre of the Sacrament. As far as the mixing and stuff goes the CD is just another bit in the mainstream and doesn't stand out as like it did in the past days. I went to concert in Philly and all the new songs completely change when you hit the concert hall there is a lot more energy to the songs. There are about as many refrences to Santanic worship as there are references to christianity---

geeze littlehugs...a little angry are we...besides the fact that elton john is a great musician that is loved all over the world...this sight is for song MEANINGS. it does seem kinda rutiualistic and cult like. "show them your love"...like show your commitment by ripping out the wings of an innocent creature for the sake of saving your soul...seems like that anyways.

I think that the whole part about ripping out the wings of a butterfly is asking the audience to do something terrible, to destroy something beautiful, just to show that they love him. It kind of reminds me of the message of the movie "Mystic River" showing that a man would even kill one of his best friends to show his love for his daughter and avenge her. That's just what i think though.

i love HIM and this song is awesome! the song is about love just basically like the rest of his songs. It is about the pain you can get from the beauty of it. it so true to no matter what pain can alway find away into someones life by the beauty of someone or something.
Kick Ass Song!!!!

Im sorry, I have been trying to resist , but I really can't.
This song is terrible and granted, I think most of HIM's songs are terrible, this one puts them all in the shade.

lolz, nice song.

this song caused a lot of commotion in belgium, because the melody is very much similair to the melody of a song from the belgian band " clouseau ".

the media was all over it,then.

nice song, tho.
