Give me your eyes
I need sunshine
Give me your eyes
I need sunshine
Your blood
Your bones
Your voice
And your ghost

We've both been very brave
Walk around with both legs
Fight the scary day
We both pull the tricks out of our sleeves

But I'll believe in anything
And you'll believe in anything
Said I'll believe in anything
And you'll believe in anything

If I could take the fire out from the wire
I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the wire
I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the wire
I'd take you where nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn
Said nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn

And I could take another hit for you
And I could take away your trips from you
And I could take away the salt from your eyes
And take away the spitting salt in you
And I could give you my apologies
By handing over my neologies
And I could take away the shaking knees
And I could give you all the olive trees
Oh look at the trees and look at my face and look at a place far away from here

Give me your eyes
I need sunshine
Give me your eyes
I need sunshine
Your blood
Your bones
Your voice
And your ghost

We've both been very brave
Walk around with both legs
Fight the scary day
We both pull the tricks out of our sleeves

But I'll believe in anything
And you'll believe in anything

If I could take the fire out from the wire
I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the wire
I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the wire
I'd take you where nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn
I said nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn
I said nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn either way
About your blood
Your bones
Your voice
And ghost
Because nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn either way

And now I'll believe in anything

General Comment:It seems pretty obvious to me that "If I could take the fire out from the wire, I'd share a life and you'd share a life" is referring to the way in which modern technological society alienates us from one another. If the narrator could remove the pressure of incessant electronic communication (in other words, turning off the electrical grid), they might have a chance to experience life.

General Comment:I'm pretty sure it's "Bold legs", not "Both legs".

My Interpretation:"Fight the scary day" should most definitely read "wait for the scary day". Listen to any live version of the song and it'll be evident.

I agree with many others that this is a love song, one about a hopeless connection between two people who, for reasons either in or out of their control, can't be together right now. The intro stanza simply is the singer expression their love for the other in a very exaggerated, but extremely touching way.

The next is about how they both have had to cope with the fact that they cannot be together, i.e., be brave and, despite feeling terrible and maybe even physically sick, have continued to get out and live their lives ("walk around with both legs"). They are waiting for the relieving though terrifying day that they're both able to come out and express how they feel and finally be together.

The believe in anything lines are pretty self explanatory. They're an optimistic ode to believing that anything can happen, and that though things may seem dark, they can all turn out bright in the end.

Though I'm not entirely sure what he means by "take the fire out from the wire", my interpretation is he's hopelessly dreaming what could happen if they could avoid that big "if" and simply drop the tension between them and go for it, hence both of them sharing their lives with each other in the next line. The repetition of these lyrics could imply how mad not being able to be with the girl is driving him and how he feels so helpless.

The "I can take X from/for you" lines are more expression of what the singer would do for the girl, and then the lines about apologies and olive tress are about making peace with her for all the of the tension and waiting that the two have suffered through because of how they feel about each other. This section finally ends with the singer shouting his inner feelings and basically exclaiming "screw this, let's run off and be together," which fits perfectly with the instrumental build up at this point.

One of my favorite songs of all time. Beautiful in every way possible.

My Interpretation:I'm kind of surprised no one has made this interpretation... though I haven't ready every comment. But it sounds like it's about being in love(as so many have already mentioned)...but with someone who's already married. If I could take the fire(the passion) out from the wire(wedding band, meaning marriage), I'd share a life and you'd share a life(we could be together).
And then there's "I'd take you where nobody knows you, and nobody gives a damn"...meaning they'd run away to where no one knows who they are, and most likely don't care if she left her husband for someone else.

General Comment:I am growing to resent this song; every time it comes up on my playlist, the next few songs that come after it always seem hopelessly weak by comparison.

It's like a tree that grows so big and tall it strangles all the underbrush beneath it for lack of... sunshine.

General Comment:i think he says olive trees twice, thats just my thought though but to be honest i like neologies better...
Hes blind with love and taking his love to a place were things dont exist and they build there own world off whatever they please, no technology, no boundaries, no limits. this guy trully is a beaut.

My Interpretation:"If I could take the fire out from the wire" to me, means if he could do the impossible - or - an ambitious attempt at manipulating or changing nature itself, in order to achieve what he wants to achieve with this person.

General Comment:It's definitely "handing over all the olive trees." I think the repetition is meant to suggest to listener that "all the olive trees" is more than enough to justify whatever it is he's proposing, hence the later exasperated suggestion to look at them.

I also happen to think this song is about realizing that living in industrial society is not conducive to healthy relationships. True intimacy has been lost.

Lyric Correction:Give me your eyes, I need sunshine
Give me your eyes, I need sunshine
Your blood, your bones, your voice, and your ghost

    We’ve both been
    A very brave
    Walk around with both legs
    Fight the, the scary day
We both pulled the tricks out of our sleeves
    I’ll believe in anything and
    You’ll believe in anything
    I Said
    I’ll believe in anything and
    You’ll believe in anything

If I could get the fire out from the wire
    I’d share a life and you’d share a life
If I could take the fire out from the wire
    I’d share a life and you’d share a life
If I could take the fire out from the wire
I’d take you where nobody knows you
    And nobody gives a damn
    I said nobody knows you
    And nobody gives a damn

And I could take another hit for you
And I could take away the trips from you
And I could take away the salt from your eyes
Take away skin and salt in you
And I could give you my apologies
    By handing over my neologies
And I could take away your shaky knees
And I could give you all the olive trees
And look at the trees and look at my face and look at a place far away from here

So give me your eyes, I need sunshine
Give me your eyes, I need sunshine
Your blood, your bones, your voice, and your ghost
    We’ve both been very brave
    Walk around with both legs
    Fight the, the scary day
We both pulled the tricks out of our sleeves
But I’ll believe in anything and
    You’ll believe in anything

If I could take the fire out from the wire
    I’d share a life and you’d share a life
If I could take the fire out from the wire
    I’d share a life and you’d share a life
If I could take the fire out from the wire
I’d take you where nobody knows you
    And nobody gives a damn
    I said nobody knows you
    And nobody gives a damn

    I said nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn either way
About your blood, your bones, your voice, and your ghost
    Because nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn either way
You know I’ll believe in anything and
    You’ll believe in anything
    Because nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn either way

General Comment:I think this song, at it's heart is a love song
    "Give me your eyes
    I need the sunshine"
Likening her body to something that he needs to survive. And the "I'll believe in anything" is just him saying that he's willing to suspend his believe for this person no matter what. Because he'd rather suspend belief and be with her than be in a place "where nobody knows you
    And nobody gives a damn"
