Lyrics for Fancy Claps as interpreted by FuneralCatering

Fancy Claps Lyrics
I'll be home
When hair has fallen out
We'll be home
When it reaches the ground
We'll be home
We'll be home
Then

We can sing
Two cracks in the crossbeams
We can sing
Very, very quietly
We can sing
We can sing for eachother

Until then don't tear your hair out
I won't tear it out if you don't

When I die, I'm leaving you my feet
When you die, you can stand up for me
We can lie in a homemade canoe
You can put me in your hair
I'll be happy there

oh oh
oh oh
oh oh

We'll be home
When my hair has fallen out
We'll be home
When we've picked it up off the ground
We'll be home then
We'll be home then
We can sing and
We'll be home then

Seems to me it's about getting older and even eventually dying. The 'When hair has fallen out' sentece implicates that. But more than that it's about enjoying the time you get during your life and making the most of it.

Just my 0,02 though :)

i agree with obsessed. it's very much seems to be about dying. "we'll be home then we'll be home then we can sing and we'll be home then" it sounds a lot like angels singing. that's a little religious though.... i'm not sure if they'd use that

home is such a relative term. personally i have no idea where i should call my home (from having moved a fair few times during my 20 years and trying to cope with it and yto fit in etc). so this home could be anything. for me, home is something you can always come back to, whoever you are and whatever you've done, wherever you've been.
so for me home would be something i'm completely bound to, but i have idea if such a thing exists. so maybe i'll know when hair has fallen out.

i'd have to agree with obsessed. this song is definitly about this love relationship that ll last forever. when i die, when you die...refers to the first one that will leave this earth will be watching the other one from above...heaven, the ground or wherever "home" is.
i might be wrong, but i think "home" has to do something with heaven or eden. dust you were born, and to dust you will return....
when my hair has fallen out....
when we've picked it up off the ground
We'll be"home" then.

one more thing, another hypothesis, but I think the homemade canoe refers to some first nations ritual when someone dies ( see jim jarmush's dead man). this would all have to do with death and life after death when all you do is singing.

I agree with elviz2k6 second hypothesis.
Just one think: Considering the interview posted by artblot about the song "Dear Sons And Daughters Of Hungry Ghosts" where he is reffering to greek mythology (... They’re sort of like that character Tantalus in Greek mythology: he can’t eat or drink, but he’s always hungry or thirsty....)
I think he's probably reffering to Khárôn, the boatman of Hades that guides the shadows of the death people through the river of tragedy.

There is no way he is saying "when hair has fallen out". It's not long enough. Whatever word or phrase he says has three syllables. It sounds to me like "when my parapet has fallen out "

Parapet-A low protective wall or railing along the edge of a raised structure such as a roof or balcony

I think it makes more sense than hair fallen out.
Better imagery too.

Favorite wolf parade song. :)
I always hear..."we can sing through cracks in the crossbeams", however.

I kinda thought it was about death, but sort of specifically death by cancer. I had chemo, and after the first couple of sessions, my hair fell out in clumps. That's just what it means to me at least.

oh behold
the parapet’s falling out
we’ll behold
when it reaches the ground
we’ll behold
we’ll behold, when
we can sing
through cracks in the crossbeams
we can sing
very very quietly
we can sing
we can sing for each other

until then don’t tear your hair out
i won’t tear it out if you don’t

when i die

when you die
you can stand up for me
we can lie in a homemade canoe
you can put me in your hair
i'll be happy there

oh oh
oh oh
oh oh

oh behold
when my parapet’s fallen out
you’ll behold
when we’ve picked it up off the ground
we’ll behold then
we’ll behold then
we can sing then
we’ll behold then

Here's a great live version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGamyc-Vw_E&mode=related&search=

(starts with "You Are A Runner" and transitions to this song)

It's really cool, cus of the bridge and because it goes blazin' fast.

For me this is a song about how love allows people some sense of peace and restful stability in a constantly dying world. the song seems obviously adressed to a lover, and "we'll be home/when hair has fallen out" says that they are somehow comfortable with their own inevitable aging and death. There are "cracks in the crosbeams," signs that the ceiling that now shelters them is decaying and will fall and ostensibly crush them, but they are so serene that they can sing to (the right lyric is "sing/to cracks in the crossbeams") their impending doom, gleaning joy from this life that will only kill them. Their hope is irrational, but satisfying nonetheless: " you can put me in your hair/I'll be happy there" Krug coos with childlike jubilance. I think the chugging, propulsive guitars give the tune an urgency, as if to say that it is vital to find this peace, that this is the answer, that we must hurry dizzyily to find this dizzying beauty, that we nedd this love, that it is our salvation.
This is definitely my favorite Wolf Parade song, and in my opinion the best on Apologies to the Queen Mary.

i've listened long and hard and it sounds like..
i'll be home
when hair has fallen out
We'll be home
when it reaches the ground...

anyway, the claps are great. The deep and high pitch voice combo is excellent and the lyrics:
when i die
i'm leaving you my feet
when you die you can stand up for me
..
make me think

'When I die, I'm leaving you my feet
When you die, you can stand up for me
We can lie in a homemade canoe
You can put me in your hair

i love the word-play there.
along with grounds for divorce, this is my favorite on apologies to the queen mary.

fantastic song
i love the intro especially
i always thought it was "to cracks in the crossbeams"
not "two"
somehow it doesn't seem like his thoughts would be that disconnected that he would just go off on a one line tangent about cracks in the crossbeams
i think it makes more sense if they're singing to the cracks, or perhaps through the cracks as someone else stated
i'm definitely hearing "to" though

i really think this is what he's saying:

"i'll be old when hair has fallen out
you'll be old when it reaches the ground
we'll be old, we'll be old then
we can sing to cracks in the cross-beams
we can sing very very quietly
we can sing for each other

until then don't tear your hair out
i won't tear it out if you don't

when i die i'm leaving you my feet
when you die you can stand up for me
we can lie in a homemade canoe
you can put me in your hair
i'll be happy there

i'll be old when my hair has fallen out
you'll be old when you've picked it up off the ground
we'll be old then, we'll be old then
we can sing, and we'll be old then"

i mean, why would he be talking about parapets in the beginning when he's so focused on hair throughout the rest of the song?
