He's a stranger to some
And a vision to none
He can never get enough
Get enough of the one
For a fortune he'd quit
But it's hard to admit
How it ends and begins
On his face is a map of the world
(A map of the world)
On his face is a map of the world
(A map of the world)
From yesterday, it's coming
From yesterday, the fear
From yesterday, it calls him
But he doesn't want to read the message here
On a mountain he sits
Not of gold but of shit
Through the blood he can look
See the lives that he took
From a council of one
He'll decide when he's done with the innocent
On his face is a map of the world
(A map of the world)
On his face is a map of the world
(A map of the world)
From yesterday, it's coming
From yesterday, the fear
From yesterday, it calls him
But he doesn't want to read the message
(But he doesn't want to read the message)
Doesn't want to read the message here!
On his face is a map of the world
From yesterday, it's coming!
From yesterday, the fear!
From yesterday, it calls him
But he doesn't want to read the message here
From yesterday
From yesterday
From yesterday, the fear
From yesterday
From yesterday
But he doesn't want to read the message
(But he doesn't want to read the message)
He doesn't want to read the message here!
And a vision to none
He can never get enough
Get enough of the one
For a fortune he'd quit
But it's hard to admit
How it ends and begins
On his face is a map of the world
(A map of the world)
On his face is a map of the world
(A map of the world)
From yesterday, it's coming
From yesterday, the fear
From yesterday, it calls him
But he doesn't want to read the message here
On a mountain he sits
Not of gold but of shit
Through the blood he can look
See the lives that he took
From a council of one
He'll decide when he's done with the innocent
On his face is a map of the world

On his face is a map of the world
(A map of the world)
From yesterday, it's coming
From yesterday, the fear
From yesterday, it calls him
But he doesn't want to read the message
(But he doesn't want to read the message)
Doesn't want to read the message here!
On his face is a map of the world
From yesterday, it's coming!
From yesterday, the fear!
From yesterday, it calls him
But he doesn't want to read the message here
From yesterday
From yesterday
From yesterday, the fear
From yesterday
From yesterday
But he doesn't want to read the message
(But he doesn't want to read the message)
He doesn't want to read the message here!

Also a buddy of mine is MI (military intelligence; oxymoronic I know) but they used a voice scrubber on the song and a voice spectral analyzer to determine the lyrics and he definintely says "sin." Sides if you believe what you read all the time and keep thumping that line, you sir, are an idiot.
The song is simply about a person who was so wrapped up in enjoying life (carnal pleasures, etc.) that he can't see that it leaves a gaping hole in his life. He doesn't realize the negative karma he has accrued (or maybe doesn't care) and the messes he leaves. Think about this: a person who lives in the moment and does drugs, sleeps around (with/without a condom) and appreciates all sorts of red delights including fighting just to fight and hurting people to get what he wants or it could be about the businessman that accrues wealth and steps on anyone in his path to get what he thinks he deserves in this world. Simply put, its about one who puts his desires ahead of others not caring who they hurt to get them. The meaning behind the refrain is simple too: Its coming, The fear, It calls him but he does want to read the message here - Its obviously a reference to the fact that his conscience is kicking in but he refuses to see what it means; a hole in his life that he can't fill but will continue to fill with "stuff" in order to feel better about the things he does.
I suppose it wasn't fair to say it wasn't about a soldier because a soldier who enjoys killing and goes merc would likely fit this general category too. Still, the song is more of a generalization of sinful people and not really focusing on specifics. Its not beautiful its sad.
