This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
oh, fuck it
i'm gonna have a party
i had the blankest year
i saw life turn into a tv show
it was totally weird
the person i knew
i didn't really know
time don't move
we're the only ones who do
bending a reason
coz it's all we hold on to
i had the blankest year
i saw life turn into a tv show
it was totally weird
the person i knew
i didn't really know
and now it's lonely
thank god the band's doing well
but you don't own me
i'd like to return this spell
cos' it's not my size
your lies are so much bigger
than my lies
and your ties are made of things
that shouldn't make ties
oh, fuck it
i'm gonna have a party
i'm gonna have a party
i had the blankest year
i saw life turn into a tv show
it was totally weird
the person i knew
i didn't really know
time don't move
we're the only ones who do
bending a reason
coz it's all we hold on to
i had the blankest year
i saw life turn into a tv show
it was totally weird
the person i knew
i didn't really know
and now it's lonely
thank god the band's doing well
but you don't own me
i'd like to return this spell
cos' it's not my size
your lies are so much bigger
than my lies
and your ties are made of things
that shouldn't make ties
oh, fuck it
i'm gonna have a party

Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Blue
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
This is just an awesome song! Love the sentiment! 'It was totally weeeeeeeeeeird! haha! Love it!
Great song. Hope they are good live when I see them in march.
They are absolutely FANTASTIC live!!! One of my favourites!!! Last time I saw them, Rogue Wave (the openers) came out and friggin' PARTIED onstage!!!

FUCK IT!!! THE DAMN BEST FUCKING SONG IN THW WORLD!!!!
seeing this song live was one of the happiest things my eyes have ever encountered.
i can relate to this song so much in the past few months of my life! my boyfriend and best friend/roommate both totally betrayed me and showed me their true selves at the exact same time. hence, "the person i knew i didn't really know." we ended up breaking up and moving out (respectively). this song is just about things being absolutely shitty, your life being full of stupid drama ("i saw life turn into a tv show"), but when you're finally tired of everything, you just say to yourself, "fuck it, i'm gonna have a party" and move beyond all of it.
Abso fucking lutely PHENOMENAL live! I've seen them twice in the span of six months and they put on the best shows I've ever been to. The first time rogue wave and inara george got up on stage to dance during this song like shesmostunusual mentioned. Then I just saw them two days ago where they played through their songs chronologically. To close it they started with Always Love and had everyone screaming out the lyrics. With everyone pumped they followed it up with this song. I think that's the loudest I've ever screamed 'fuck it' while simultaneously being happy. Matt ended up playing the final refrain about four times over after the song had ended. Thank you Nada Surf!!
