Lyrics for I Write Sins Not Tragedies as interpreted by ADimeADexter

I Write Sins Not Tragedies Lyrics
Oh, well imagine, as I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor,
and I can't help but to hear, no I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words:
"What a beautiful wedding! What a beautiful wedding!" says a bridesmaid to a waiter.
"And yes, but what a shame, what a shame, the poor groom's bride is a whore."

I'd chime in with a "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!"
No, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.
I'd chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!"
No, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of...

Well in fact, well I'll look at it this way, I mean technically our marriage is saved
Well this calls for a toast, so pour the champagne
Oh! Well in fact, well I'll look at it this way, I mean technically our marriage is saved
Well this calls for a toast, so pour the champagne, pour the champagne

I'd chime in with a "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!"
No, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.
I'd chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!"
No, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.

Again...

I'd chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!"
No, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.
I'd chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!"
No, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.

Again...

I think here the singer is the groom and he's just heard about how his wife-to-be is a whore... after his initial anger, he thinks, regains his "poise and rationality"...this saves himself a lot of trouble in the future: "look at it this way/I mean technically our marriage is saved"

i disagree i kno that brendon is not getting married cuz for 1 he is only 18 and he is way to busy for that, to me it means that u shouldnt talk about people behind their back and instead u should deal with wat u have to say with a little class

Ok. So lets settle this. The character in the song, is getting married. Alright, good. Settled. Doesn't mean that it has to be exactly what is going on in someone's life. Nor does it have anything to do with who writes the songs. L-Kyne's meaning makes sense and that's what I'm going with because that was my interpretation.

i dont agree with L-Kyne. i think the person over hearing the conversation is a person that works there

'As I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor'

i really dont care much about that.... just, THIS SONG IS SOOO AWSOME, like all of their others...

I think the song is about people talking behind your back, and you know it. The Bride Maid is suppose to be the Bride's friend, usually a close friend but here she is saying she's a whore and tell that to a random waiter. I really don't think it has anything to do with marriage really, that could be a metaphor -I think it's about people you thought you could trust lie and talk behind your back and you just have to deal with it, drink it down ["pour the champagne"] and just get over it. It's about how he reacts which is telling them "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?" while he knows you should act like you never heard it, react with a mature look on the situation. But then again, only the boys of PANIC! know the true meaning.

no need to be bitter mareh, leave her alone.
anyway, yeah i also think the wedding is a metaphore for friendship. i also think it's about having a friend that stabs you in the back. and then the groom overhears and plays it 'cool' by handling it with 'poise and rationality.' when he says 'havent you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door' that's when he comes in to defend her, and say that it was in the past, and then he takes in what he just heard. so maybe, since they're getting married, there is more security that she wont cheat on him?/ stab him in the back? because she has changed? i'm still not sure.

Why does it have to be a metaphor for anything? The story is simple.

The character telling the story is the groom, he's pacing nervously and overhears the conversation. He chimes in with the line and then rethinks his reaction and treats it with poise and rationality. He blows the comment off as nothing but jealousy and that's it. Get on with the wedding, pour the champagne.

mareh, I am sorry that someone placed the d and the s key so close together. I was in a hurry and failed to check what I wrote. If accidents make you vomit, I'm sure you should see a doctor...

I like to think I know what I am talking about with this song, considering that in a short note in AP about their upcoming album, Panic! noted that they liked to write songs that were straightforward.

I agree with L-kyne. Kind of. Songs arent about lyrics, guys. There about getting a feeling across. There all about how you comprehende them theres no right or wrong answer. Songs aren't clear. There thought pravokeing. Also, im 16 and ingaged, to be married in a mater or months, a few days after my 17'th birthday. You can get married, as long as you have your parental gardians consent. Lucky for me. My parents love him.

Okay. A song is great because you get to inerpret the meaning of the song anyway you want to. It may mean something to one person and something completely different to another.

My look on it?

There is a groom. He's pacing the church corridors because he is nervous about the coming wedding. As he's pacing, he overhears a conversation in another room. This is where the bridesmaid and the waiter come in. The bridesmaid is being the typical girl who swoons over weddings, saying how beautiful it all is. The waiter, being the equivalent to a high school gossiper, bursts her bubble with a juicy bit of information "The groom's bride is a whore". The groon storms into the room, catching the bridesmaid and waiter off guard. He's extremely emotional and upset over what he just heard, and he says "Haven't you people ever heard of closing the goddamn door", wishing he had never heard them because to him, ignorance is bliss. Then he rethinks it and comes to the conclusion that it would be better to sit down and figure this thing out with some rationality. He tries to look at the bright side of things, thinking "Well technically our marriage is saved", meaning they won't have to worry about all of the possibilites of divorce and such.

Just my outlook on it.

I agree with theCRUNKINATOR. With the exception being that in my mind, "The groom's bride is a whore." is said by the bride's maid.

I think yes it is about the song writer overhearing two people at his wedding talking about his wife to be being a whore. I think also with the whole our wedding is saved I think it means they aren't getting married due to him thinking shes a whore. Few reasons, Mainly cause 1. hes saving their wedding by him not finding out later before they are commited.2. The title of the song is I write sins not tragedies I am thinking that means he is writing about a SIN not some TRAGEDIES! so she really is a whore I am guessing and he isn't going to marry her now.
