Majesty
Faithful me
Pour yourself
Into me

Wield your power
Martyr's price
Stare me down
To the ground

Slake my thirst
Eternal wealth
Heathen key
Round my neck

This poetry
Our blasphemy
Know the sounds
Of infamy

The eyes of the devil
Fixed on his sinners

The hands of Satan
Assembling his flock
Pale horse rider
Searching the earth

Whispered conjuration
A belief takes form
Choking hand tapping
The veins in your throat

His orders in your mouth
A decree for domination
Beneath the tides of wisdom
Spins the undertow of hate

Injected seeds of vengeance
Usurper's eyes of the powerless
Clean path to his kingdom
Beckoning in the mist

Tell my why
Love subsides
In the light
Of your wishes

Say my name
Ease the pain
Clear the smoke
In my head

My Interpretation:I take this song more optimistically. Of course it's about good and evil or as others interpret it, God and Satan... or just Satan as stated as well. Leading up to this final song, the album shows the journey through battling inner evils or fighting inner demons with possessive powers. However this final song to me demonstrates a final plea to God for help whilst his spirit is on it's last legs, so to speak, before being completely taken over by Satan. The reason I see it this way is due to the clever ambiguity of the lyrics, never discretely referring to whom the 'master' is.

    Majesty
    Faithful me
    Pour yourself
    Into me

[this is where the final plea begins, referring to God as Majesty. Faithful me is a reference to the parable of the Prodigal Son who was faithful because he returned back to his father. Pour yourself/Into me is an openness to the light of God to enter.]

    Wield your power
    Martyr's price
    Stare me down
    To the ground

[This is a request for God to look directly into the character's heart and to reveal himself to him. The Martyr's price is death for belief - not necessarily physical death here, but the death of ego or past beliefs]

    Slake my thirst
    Eternal wealth
    Heathen key
    Round my neck

[As in the scriptures, the Word of God is referred to as 'quenching all thirst' and the Kingdom of Heaven is referred to as containing more wealth than any worldly possessions could come near to. (Please excuse my lack of chapter and Biblical referencing). The Heathen key/Round my neck is for me a Lord of the Rings reference. Frodo wore the Ring of Power around his neck which represented his burden, but also his goal to destroy it]

    This poetry
    Our blasphemy
    Know the sounds
    Of infamy

[This is an acknowledgement of the dark depths to the words of Satan and evil. This section and onwards shows how the character has learnt to understand the workings of the devil, through experiencing them himself. He is able to now because he is guided by the light of God]

    The eyes of the devil
    Fixed on his sinners

    The hands of Satan
    Assembling his flock
    Pale horse rider
    Searching the earth

[Satan's persistence with his followers and evil's desire to lead sinners astray to completely hand their soul over to him. The Pale horse rider metaphor depicts the devil as fast, fleeting, powerful, but ultimately beatable for the few who get out of the way or can hear him coming]

    Whispered conjuration
    A belief takes form
    Choking hand tapping
    The veins in your throat

[The possessive qualities of evil, in particular in what people say when they are taken over by it. Mind you, the word evil here can represent addiction as well. In most cases, thought patterns are what bring people to remain in addictive cycles. Hence the Whispered conjuration/A belief takes form]

    His orders in your mouth
    A decree for domination
    Beneath the tides of wisdom
    Spins the undertow of hate

[Once evil has possession over an individual, everything the person thinks and does seems truthful, correct and 'wise'. However, underneath all this is where the evil intent is hidden. It is through logic that the mind allows immorality and sin to arise]

    Injected seeds of vengeance
    Usurper's eyes of the powerless
    Clean path to his kingdom
    Beckoning in the mist

[Once the seed of hate has been planted, unless the tree is uprooted, it will continue to grow. Here the character understands that there are two paths. The one of God and one of Satan. Clean path to his kingdom/Beckoning in the mist can refer to both the path of evil and that of good. Both are calling upon the individual and both are straight roads. Firstly, which is which must be worked out, and then which to follow from there]

    Tell my why
    Love subsides
    In the light
    Of your wishes

[The character now understands the lovelessness in the devil's wishes and asks him directly why so.]

    Say my name
    Ease the pain
    Clear the smoke
    In my head

["The Shepherd knows his sheep. He knows each one by name. The Shepherd knows you. He knows your name. And he will never forget it. I have written your name on my hand" (Isaiah. 49:16). This last stanza is a final surrender unto God, asking for forgiveness ("Clear the smoke/In my head").]

That is my interpretation of the song. I am not asking you to agree, nor am I asking to you become a Christian. I am not saying I am a Christian either, I find labels such as that close lots of people off straight away. Belief is a personal thing and should be 'preached' through practicing peace, joy and love. Never by shoving labels down people's throughts... or into any other orifices...

Also this allows me to not feel depressed after listening to melodic death metal, hope is there even when all is thought to be lost.

General Comment:Wouldn't it be great if they came out with an album parodying 80's metal? Singing about themselves and how "hardcore (maaaaan)" they are. Unfortunately, Akerfedt lost his growl, it's evident in their newer live performances, and that's why in their next album there's not going to be any growl/scream.

    General Comment:replace all ["satan" + " Devil"] to "God" ,, and see the outcome ;

no offense to religious ppl ; just let think a little atheistic ..

i think satan-devil is metaphore for god for us to think clearly about the pain that a God has suffered to us , if he/she/it exists ... u let satan be creepy , villan and ... at the end when u replace it wit God u find out he all this too . watching , controlling , punishing ... and ..

again : no offense to any opinion

General Comment:This song is about conjuring the Devil and whatnot, but the lyrics are all out of synch. Here's how the song goes:

    Majesty
    Faithful me
    Pour yourself
    Into me

    Wield your power
    Martyr's price
    Stare me down
    To the ground

If this was taken from the album booklet, Opeth must really want to screw with our heads.

General Comment:The song is about conjuring demonic forces. There is no way around that fact. Whether the band is doing it for publicity reasons or not , it is still tampering with the demonic side of things which is PROHIBITED by those who call themselves Christians.

Many fake Christians feel they can listen to whatever and not be affected but they are wrong because your Spirit (holy ghost) is being affected subconciously.

Trust me, Opeth will have to answer for their demonic vices.

You want Christ Worshiping Metal, try Extol, or Mortification.

General Comment:This song is a good ending/beginning to this album. This is obviously a Satanic ritual to summon Satan. References to being possessed, Satan chasing someone, etc. are found throughout Ghost Reveries.
