I always knew That you'd do great things I didn't ever want to slow you down I was there when you learned To use your wings And I saw you leave the ground The time I spent in your sweet arms Was the best time that I've known And maybe the reason I was here at all Was to see you carry on So don't you know I still remember How once I was someone to you And girl you were meant For something better It doesn't matter anymore What you think of me I'm just proud to be Part of your history I knew the time was coming soon 'Cause you were growing up so fast And sometimes you can lose so much When you try to make it last I always knew you'd do great things I didn't ever want to slow you down I was there when you learned To use your wings And I saw you leave the ground So don't you know I still remember How once I was someone to you And girl you were meant For something better It doesn't matter anymore What you think of me I'm just proud to be Part of your history It doesn't matter anymore 'Cause you sent me free I'm just proud to be Part of your history

General Comment:I've been a fan of Blue Merle for quite a while. Most of this CD reminds me of a girl that I've now dated three times. "Lucky to Know You" is her ringtone. We have quite the history, dating back over 10 years and she's always been the one who left. We just split up two weeks after Valentine's Day even though I really thought we could make it this time. It's turned into a cycle for her. She's doing larger things with her life than I could imagine doing with mine. She was meant for something bigger.

Rachel, I'm letting you go. Thanks for the run. Please don't ever forget me. No regrets.

General Comment:In response to kels19, I would totally agree, except that I relate very well to this song and I /do/ have regrets.

    I miss you Kyle. Dearly.

General Comment:i also can't believe only 3 people have commented on this amazing song. this is the perfect song for breaking up with someone when you knew it was going to happen eventually, but you have absolutely no regrets. it hurts to be apart, but you are so glad that the person was a part of your life.

General Comment:I can't believe more people haven't commented on Blue Merle. The music is amazing and lyrics even better. I've listened to this song a lot when I travel. I usually share it with my traveling buddies and we relate to the other side of the story: the person doing the leaving.

I think nerelands is right. I wonder sometimes from what viewpoint it is. Sometimes it seems like a father figure and then other times, a lover. I think a friend would be the best analogy...and a great friend at that!

General Comment:It's the bittersweet feeling, looking back on someone you've loved but always somehow knew you'd eventually lose cause they were bound for something bigger, they were bound to leave your side. You've seen them grow by your side and become the person they are, and you're proud to have been there with them, as much as it hurts to have lost them.
