Lyrics for Prey as interpreted by timmeh

Prey Lyrics
One at a time
One in the same
One is the time
That remains
Snip back the weak before they give away
I'm twisted in knots from hard work and strain

I've been waiting so long for this time
I'm terrified
Blind in ways I've never realized
I don't mind

All at a time
All in the same
Califormula
I've become prey
Strolling down
In my face
These tears I'm not crying
This will not kill me

I've been waiting so long for this time
I'm terrified
Blind in ways I've never realized
I don't mind

To do this right
We must realize
Everyone kneads equally

I've been waiting so long for this time
I'm terrified
Blind in ways I've never realized
I don't mind

Surprised nobody has commented on this song. It's a very good 10 Years song in my opinion... As for the meaning behind it, I'm going to go out on a limb and give my idea of it being about war.

The first verse seems to give the idea of how he has been moulded into the image of a soldier ("One in the same", "I'm twisted in knots from hard work and strain").

The chorus may give an indication of mixed feelings -- anticipation, fear, enlightenment and acceptance. The soldier is afraid to be on the frontline, fighting in a war, afraid that death is ever so imminent, only now because he realises what it is like. However even through his realisation of what war is like, he doesn't care. He simply wants to do what he wants to do.

The second verse seems to describe the soldier's futility and how all the efforts he has put in seem to be in vain, how the hunter has become the hunted. Even through this, he is attempting to hold back his true feelings of fright to maintain his composure as a soldier.

As for the bridge, I feel this is simply the message that war is not the answer, that all nations need equality.

This is a great band, I'm surprised more people haven't commented on these songs. I heard them on the radio and immediately downloaded some songs. I think they're great. I agree with the war theme, I think the whole album is about war.

Not every song by every band since 2001 is about war, sorry gents.

"Prey was inspired by the band's move to Los Angeles to record their debut album, and Hasek's observation that people in L.A. drive cars worth more than some of the houses in their Tennessee hometown." - Total Assault

Check out the lyric in the second verse, "Califormula". I believe that lyric by itself qualifies the previous statement.

You've gotta trust the man who wrote it, eh?

No, Sorry. These songs have nothing to do with religion. Not every song is about god Ok? What IndelibleEntity said is true, he has the proper meaning of this song. I went to one of their concerts and they have nothing to do with god and the reason they did an acoustic version of those songs is becaue they were the most succesful so far. So yes, there is my thoughts.

Well I know this is what the band was shooting for but to me the song is about someone who is pressured into sex and finally has it

"I've been waiting so long for this time
I'm terrified
Blind in ways I've never realized
I don't mind"

All at a time
All in the same
Califormula
I've become prey
Strolling down
In my face
These tears I'm not crying
This will not kill me

that may refer to how all at once everything changed and suddenly they realize someone has taken advantage of them

ha this is just what i think when i listen to it

o yea i forgot the most important part

"One is the time
That remains
Snip back the weak before they give away
I'm twisted in knots from hard work and strain"

one time remains...as in the first time or virginity...and then the weak are those who just give it up so easily but the narrator is trying hard not to

The truth is, the song is going to be interpreted in many different ways. If it be religion, love, or whatever.

The true meaning about it was nailed by IncredibleEntity. That is the bands view on the song.

As for how I interpret it, it is a love song. If you can read the lyrics you would understand what I mean.

10 years songs all have deep meaning. i think the only one who knows its meaning is Jesse.
never hurt to express your oppinion on the meanings of songs but noone is completly sure. his lyrics are so deep and cryptic..

like i i think through the iris could be about two views on a relationship, and a argument between and atheist and a christian

IndelibleEntity was right on the bands view of this song.
But since the first time I heard this song I always took as someone waiting and worked for something so much that once they receive that one thing they are so terrified and scared about what could happen next.

A lot of these sound right. I remember reading somewhere that they said it was about when they got signed. Any way you look at it, this is a very good and deep song.
