Sit tight, I'm gonna need you to keep time
C'mon, just snap, snap, snap your fingers for me
Good, good, now we're making some progress
Come on just tap, tap, tap your toes to the beat

And I believe
This may call for a proper introduction, and well
Don't you see?
I'm the narrator, and this is just the prologue

Swear to shake it up, and you swear to listen
Oh, we're still so young, desperate for attention
I aim to be your eyes, trophy boys, trophy wives

Applause, applause, no, wait, wait
Dear studio audience, I've an announcement to make
It seems the artists these days are not who you think
So we'll pick back up on that on another page

My Interpretation:I don't think this song is necessarily about them trying to grab the attention of the media, but I agree with Aethonicon about how the only difference between punk and pop is radio coverage. They're telling about how all the mainstream artists are technically trying to just get attention.

General Comment:When I first heard this song I thought finally, a song on the radio that is actually saying something. That's no ordinary title of a song, its length alone demands attention of which it got mine. It's a direct criticism of how the media can paint a picture of any situation, for better or worse thus "It seems the artists these days are not what you think".

The line, "I aim to be your eyes, trophy boys, trophy wives" is basically talking about how a lot of artists only focus on being popular, to the "trophy", cool/mainstream people of the world, so they sell some records.

I usually don't care for most popular songs on the radio, but I think there needs to be a voice of reason from time to time on there, of which this song was. It calls out those who are "still so young and desperate for attention", how attention and publicity seem to have taken precedence over an artist's true intention, ie - someone choosing to commit suicide out of sorrow being turned into martyrdom by the media. I think of Ian Curtis and Kurt Cobain.

My Interpretation:I've always seen this song as an introduction into the album (even though they technically already have one).

"Keep tight. I'm gonna need you to keep time come on just snap snap snap your fingers for me"
The musics beginning keep up and listen

"I believe this may call for a proper introduction and well don't you see? I'm the narrator and this is just the prologue"
Like in Elizabethan times, when pretty much every play had a prologue that told you what was going to happen and what the story was about.

"Oh we're still so young, desperate for attention"
This is who we are, or who we are expected to be and in our album we will show you how and why

General Comment:It's simply an introduction of their album and the band, I guess.

General Comment:I think it's about wooing the media and people to fall for them. Could be wrong but that's just what it sounds like to me =) x

    My Interpretation:I agree with silverstars12.
I think of the song as the band's introduction to the music industry. They "swear to shake it up if we swear to listen."

    "And I believe
This may call for a proper introduction, and well
    Don't you see?
I'm the narrator, and this is just the prologue"

This is just the prologue signifies that it's just the beginning of them.

"Oh, we're still so young, desperate for attention
I aim to be your eyes, trophy boys, trophy wives"

Desperate for attention so they aim to get that fanbase where they're admired and such.

    "Applause, applause, no, wait, wait
Dear studio audience, I've an announcement to make
It seems the artists these days are not who you think
So we'll pick back up on that on another page"

Saying Panic are different to the other bands of today.

All in all thats what I get from it, makes sense to me anyway lol.

General Comment:i know when i started reading the whole interpretations about the book i was totally lost.....

SO for the ppl who HAVEN'T read 'survivor' i'll give my thoughts....

i think the chorus starting off with 'swear to shake it up, if you swear to listen' is maybe a little more deep than it seems... to me, its saying he'll make it obvious and point it out, but only if we listen and try to change. 'we're still so young, desperate for attention' he's saying how young ppl do crazy stuff to get themselves noticed and it leads to when he says 'i aim to be your eyes' bcuz he wants the world to see the flaws that are coming into effect and he's trying to point it out. 'trophy boys, trophy wives' screams that love isn't wat it used to be, that ppl only 'love' eachother for selfish reasons such as popularity and looking good; looping back around to the meaning of the rest of the chorus....

    "Applause, applause, no, wait, wait
Dear studio audience, I've an announcement to make
It seems the artists these days are not who you think
So we'll pick back up on that on another page" im guessing that its saying that ppl CAN see that things are different and not right, but they choose to 'pick that up on another page' or ignore it.... when he sings that artists are not who you think they are, i feel he says that because everyone seems fake.

    finally-
    "Don't you see?
I'm the narrator, and this is just the prologue"

maybe this is saying that he's just directing and retelling the events at play, and noting that its just the beginning of futher events.

    -----
i dont care if my interpretation is off, again, i haven't read that book, so im going by what i think and how i see it... and honestly i think it makes sense either way...
