Lyrics for The Only Difference Between Martyrdom An... as interpreted by L-Kyne

The Only Difference Between Martyrdom An... Lyrics
Sit tight, I'm gonna need you to keep time
C'mon, just snap, snap, snap your fingers for me
Good, good, now we're making some progress
Come on just tap, tap, tap your toes to the beat

And I believe
This may call for a proper introduction, and well
Don't you see?
I'm the narrator, and this is just the prologue

Swear to shake it up, and you swear to listen
Oh, we're still so young, desperate for attention
I aim to be your eyes, trophy boys, trophy wives

Applause, applause, no, wait, wait
Dear studio audience, I've an announcement to make
It seems the artists these days are not who you think
So we'll pick back up on that on another page

What Palahniuk song does this refrence? The only one I could think of off hand would be Survivor.

Palahniuk song? Hah.

But yeah, Survivor. The title's a direct quote from the book.

At first, I was pretty pissed at the reference because I thought the song would totally dishonor Palahniuk. Then I listened to it and...well...I love it, but I don't know if he'd approve.

The only direct refrence in the song(like someone said, the title is a direct quote) I can spot easily is the "trophy wives" line. I think the rest of it is just based around the whole 'evil media corporations' thing in survivor where they're trying to turn him into something he's not.

"Swear to shake it up, and you swear to listen"

Maybe that's talking about Fertility and Tender's relationship? She swears to shake it up and Tender swears to listen to her predictions? Or maybe it's about Tender and his relationship with the media. He'll shake things up and the world will swear to listen.

"Don't you see, I'm the narrator, and this is just the prologue"

This could mean that the story is just a prologue to whatever Tender's future with Fertility is after the plane crashes.

"Applause, applause, no wait wait
Dear studio audience, I've an announcement to make
It seems the artists these days are not who you think
So we'll pick back up on that on another page"

I think that's pretty self-explanatory for those who've read the book.

Maybe I'm overanalyzing.

Ooops, I meant Palahniuk book, although it seems like Chuck is co-writing P!ATD songs. I'm currently re-reading Survivor, so I should be able to come up with some song refrences as I get through that.

I don't really think this matters, but in case anyone cares, Pete from Fall Out Boy wrote the "Trophy Boys, Trophy Wives" line.

not patrick tj - pete, the guitarist...he signed them to his label decaydance and he is in the studio recording with them...hence why Brendon's voice is on the song "7 Minutes In Heaven" on Fall Out Boy's From Under the Cork Tree

This song=love. Really, its fantastic.

Does anyone know which part, specifically, Brendon sings on "7 Minutes in Heaven"? Oh, and Pete is FOB's bassist. Joe and Patrick play guitar.

even though it's not exactly related, I'll answer your question. Patrick sings "keep telling myself, keep telling myself, i'm not the desperate type" and then Brendon repeats it.

"swear to shake it up and you swear to listen"

am i the only one who hears "if" instead of "and"?

it sucks because i can't find an offical site for their lyrics so i'm left guessing. if any of you know for sure let me know.

patrick and brendon both just idolize jamie woolford, hence why they sound the same.

listen to old stuff from The Stereo or Animal Chin.
you'll see what they learned from.
