Lyrics for Listening To Freddy Mercury as interpreted by lying eyes

Listening To Freddy Mercury Lyrics
Every once in a while I think I'm lying.
Take it to the bank. I believe every word I say.
(This just isn't how, this just isn't how)
Then again this is when you start your prying.
(This just isn't how, this just isn't how)
But there's a thought it could be true.
But this just isn't how I imagined it would be.
With these random people just asking the most personal things.
And to think that somehow I could always come clean.
And you shake your head just like you know what I mean.

You're a Christian tell the sinner find repentance it's your last chance.
You believer, where's your patience?
Answer questions, put on faces.
What about God? For you and for me.

All have fallen short (To see if it's right or wrong to listen to this song.
I don't want you too. To see if you're okay with all the words I say.
It can't be this way)

Somehow, someone is more equal than others.
Depending on the words we choose to say.
A glance at her too long tonight.
But everything I am saying is right in your ears.

We are all the sisters and the brothers.
Until we find we don't believe the same, like...

Gary is getting drunk to forget Sarah.
Sarah is stealing money from her parents.
Aaron is lying straight to Jon.
About Megan and the things that went on.
Jessica is a gossip, Laura is a slut.
Derrick hits Bridget and Ben deals drugs.
Seth spends all his money gambling.
Joey stopped praying.

It is all the same thing.
We are all the same people.
With sinning hearts that make us equal.

Here is my hand, not words said desperately.
It is not our job to make anyone believe.

Kerina, perhaps they were referring to "spiritual warfare." I have listened to this song a lot, and I feel like it is talking about how we are all imperfect sinners. It is talking about how we wear masks to disguise who we really are, and Christians are the worst ones at this. We pretend like we have it all together, but we don't. Also, the part about whether or not we should evangelize to people, clearly we should! We just shouldn't walk around with a "holier than thou" attitude and try and shove Jesus down people's throats.

OH MY GOSH PEOPLE!! YOU GUYS ARE MISSING ANOTHER POINT TO THE SONG!!!

I quote (kylee)"this is by far and away my favorite emery song,
mostly because of this song's Christian content."

I'm not picking on just you Kylee, but a lot of followers of Jesus. I don't know how many people base their likeness of a song based on the Christian content. I mean for Pete's sake, if that was the case, we should all love the song "Reach Out and Touch Faith" (by) Marilyn Manson. WOOHOO!

One line that should really stick out is, "To see if it's right or wrong, to listen to this song" He's pretty much mocking today's Christian society bubble and things like CCM. It's like we're in a bubble and don't want to see what's going on out in the world. I mean, how would we shake our heads and know "what they mean" if we haven't seen it ourselves? I could say a lot more, but I'm just gonna end it here.

It's not our job to MAKE anyone believe...we were told to make disciples of nations, but NOT to FORCE them. Just remember that.

God Bless

To me, this song is about religion and hypocrites. It's talking about how when he goes to church people pry a him and try to get him to get "saved" and how the church might be true, but it's so different then he imagined it would be cuz random people come up to him and ask him the most personal things. he's also talking about how they try to make people believe. i totally love this song, it's one of the best by emery.

i love what this song is saying. lots of christians and religious people think that just because they talk to God it doesn't matter what else they do. In reality, talking and doing hold the same importance. i totally love this song.

i'm sorry. you guys are making me laugh too much. first off, some of you seem somewhat young. which is not a big deal. but in the deluxe edition booklet "it's not our job to MAKE anyone believe." i sort of think the emphasis is shifted a bit. that's the beauty of music. that's the beauty of words, literature, BOOKS. they're all interpreted to the reader's intent. seems to me that religion is kinda being played down in the song. "what about god? for you and for me. all have fallen short." just depends on your influence. i'm agnostic myself. if there is a god i don't agree with how he's portrayed in churches. "here's my hand, not words said desparately." i think could be a reference to comradery through each other, not words that are said to try to sway your thoughts and actions.. it's great. the beauty of words...

p.s. freddie mercury wasn't a christian. Zoroastrianism - that was his religion.

alright.... before i explain what i think the song means... i want every1 to know that i am not a homosexual... okay here we go... Freddy Mercury was obviously a homosexual and after being diagnosed with aids turned to Soroastrianism, due to the fact that all christian church banned him to hell. Strange thing was that he grew up a christian and believed and told other homosexuals that if you are saved you will go to heaven, no matter of ur sexuality... Now what the song is saying there is not one sin that is greater or less than others, a sin is a sin... The point is that being a homosexual, is as bad as lying, stealing, gambling, etc. No where in the bible does it say that being gay is an unforgivable sin.. all sins are forgivable... we lie, cheat, steal, gamble everyday... and at night or whenever when we pray and ask for forgivness are slate is cleaned.....And for the last line i think its being said sarcastically....I could be way off of base, but the name of the song is Listening To Freddie Mercury.... If fellow christians just listened to freddie mercury and witnissed to him that there is room for him in heaven, he wouldnt have found comort in another belief.... So there we go... i hope people read this and let me know what they think...

I believe greenasanthony is mistaken to a certain point. Freddie Mercury did NOT grow up a Christian. His parents were of Persian descent, and were followers of a Zoroastrian religion. Freddie himself never took claim on any religion. He believed that there was a God and a heaven and hell, but didnt think much of it. He just wanted to live his life the way he wanted.

*I too, am a Christian, and Queen happens to be my favorite band :)

Thank God CryingCrimsonTears you get it better than we christians do. Im a christian and other christians dont get me. im for gay marriage becuase god supposedly gave free choice. i however dont believe in abortion becuase i believe it is murder...and that has nothing to do with the ten commandments for me. in the u.s. murder is a crime, not a sin and thats why i am pro life...anyways i utterly totally agree with you and this is the greatest song they do

I really like this song. It really shows how Christians need to be. If Christians want to evangelize and convert people, they need to stop accusing and threatening. They need to help people and let people see Christ through them. The line that probably speaks most to me is "Here's my hand, not words said desperately", because it shows that Christians should be helping more and talking less. One of the main reason there are so many atheists, in my opinion, is because some Christians act like stuck-up idiots all the time.

markeatspaste .... Freddy Mercury is one of Emery's influences. The title is kind of just in honor to him. No specific meaning.

I love Emery, but I feel like this song is saying sinning as a Christian is OK, and we don't have to help our brothers and sisters to see their sin.

I dunno.

The bible tells us to judge followers.
Not judge in way of being a jerk and acting pious.
But judge in a sense of bringing our brothers and sisters sin to light so they can see it too and repent and turn back to God.

See it says it in 1 Corinthian 5:12-13, "It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning. God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, “You must remove the evil person from among you.”

It's our responsibility to judge those sinning inside the church.
See?
So we need to bring to light Gary's alcoholism, Sarah's stealing, Aaron's lying, Jessica's slander, Laura's adultery, etc. Just saying it's ok, Jesus loves you isn't enough. Sin is not okay, and yes Jesus loves you but He HATES your sin.

Sin is not okay.
It separates us from God.
Why would you ever want someone you love to be far from God?

And please no arguing, that's not what was meant by this.
If you argue, you're just arguing against the Bible. the scripture's right there..

Also, greenasanthony, sin is forgivable, yes, but God's forgiveness isn't a stamp of approval. Repenting of sin (which is what has to be done to be forgiven) means turning from that sin and no longer taking part in it.

The main thing I like this song is this part
"(To see if it’s right or wrong to listen to this song, I don’t want you too)
(And see if you’re okay with all the words I say; it can’t be this way)"

amazing. I always get into stupid arguments about how a band is Christian and this band is Christian.. and haha. always funny when someone says a band is "more" Christian.. xD ok.

well.. these two lines made me respect Emery a bit more..

i agree with floz2323 who posted a comment in the beggining. Now I LOVE EMERY.. ive been a fan since who knows.. since i was like 15? now im 20 years old.. ive always loved this song.. and the funny thing is.. im not christian.. and i dont intend to be.. not to discriminate whatsoever with anyone's religion.. im more spiritual then i am religious.. and i like to keep it that way :) either way.. christian bands who dont seem to put their "christianity" out there but their faith in what they do, so that it can relate to other people not of their religion .. always are the best bands.. I love so many christian bands.. its not even funny..especiallly switchfoot.. they inspire me.. but at the same time like I said.. im not christian and i never intend to be christian.. i can relate to christians because i believe in something, a higher being.. and put my trust in it. it may not be jesus... but it can be either in myself, or the universe itself. either way Emery put a lot of words into this song that makes me say yea!! especially when he says.. "it's not our job to make anyone believe" exactly... We are all equal no matter what, yes theyre right.. no matter what we do what we say.. we are all the same, and you cant blame someone for being different.. just to accept them as who they are! <3
