I once knew a girl
In the years of my youth
With eyes like the summer
All beauty and truth

In the mourning I fled
Left a note and it read
Someday you will be loved

I cannot pretend that I felt any regret
Cause each broken heart will eventually mend
As the blood runs red down the needle and thread
Someday you will be loved

[Chorus]
You'll be loved, you'll be loved
Like you never have known
And the memories of me will seem more like bad dreams
Just a series of blurs like I never occurred
Someday you will be loved

You may feel alone
When you're falling asleep
Every time tears roll down your cheek
But I know your heart belongs
To someone you've yet to meet
Someday you will be loved

[Chorus:Repeat x2]

Someday you will be loved

General Comment:A guy sent this to me, I understand what the songs means, but how should I take it? Here is the background, we never actually dated.. but we almost did.. He told me he wasn't ready.. but he said he never met anyone like me before.. and we could talk for hours.. and that nobody else could compare. Now we aren't friends..or are even together.. and we its impossible to be just friends.

    General Comment:He's rehashing his past:
Back in his youth he convinced a gorgeous girl that he really liked her, and carries on the charade until she finally develops feelings about him and trusts him enough to sleep with him.
Now finally getting what he wanted, he leaves her to wake up alone the morning after. And instead of going quietly, he chooses to tell her (not in person - but on a note) that it's not you, it's me. He knows he's breaking her heart because he alludes that her heart will have to be stitched together again "Just as the blood runs down the needle and thread."
But what really bothers me is that he's so patronizing that after using her for sex that he tells her not to worry because someone will love you someday instead of deceiving you just get some action. It's just adding insult to injury.
This song is gorgeous, but the lyrics are not about her or love. They're about how he's a douche bag. He's like a more cruel version of Barney from "How I Met Your Mother."

My Interpretation:The inevitable natures of humankind. If we screw up, we have to deal with what comes our way. Sometimes we know we screwed up, and have not much of a choice other than to offer what little fix attempts we can.

My Interpretation:I agree that it's about a relationship, obviously. It sounds to me as though he's realized he'll never be able to give her the love and appreciation that she deserves. Furthermore, he doesn't deserve her as a partner. Although he wishes her the best of luck, he urges her to hold onto hope that she will find someone who is all she wants, desires, and needs- someone who will appreciate her, and who she'll be able to love.

General Comment:It sounds like thye both had feelings for eachother, but he realized that he wasn't the right person for her and left. She still loves him and misses him greatly, hence "You may feel alone when you're falling asleep, And every time tears roll down your cheeks."

However, he cares enough to know that it would only hurt her more to go back to her, since his feelings towards her aren't as strong as they should be. He knows that one day she'll find a person that will love her as much as she loves him.

General Comment:I think he left a relationship when he was young because he just didn't have feelings for her anymore, and he didn't regret doing it because he's a lot happier now, but he doesn't have anything against her either and he feels bad for breaking her heart so he reassures her that there is someone out there better than him who will actually be able to return her feelings.

General Comment:I'm going to go completely opposite of everyone here. I feel like this song is about a boy, who was in fact in love, deeply I might add, with a girl. He realizes that she doesn't truly love him, so he breaks his own heart. So that she can go on to find this: "But I know your heart belongs to someone you've yet to meet", the person she will love, as he loves her. He knows that at first she will be hurt, because maybe she cares about him, but eventually, she will forget him. All the while he is left to mend his self-broken heart. But thats just my 2 pennies on the subject

General Comment:The guy is now remembering the girl he loved as he thinks about his youth
because of social or any other pressure he left the girl,
what he really wanted was the girl though he couldn't accept her due to some reason he can't tell her,
now he is not so young and in his memories is that girl always.

General Comment:This is me! Haha these songs can probably relate to everyone at some point, but I feel like my ex boyfriend is singing this to me. He feels really bad but he just didn't love me, and he wants me to be happy so he tries to tell me that I'm really cool and that I'll find someone that's way better to me than he was. It hurts both of them that it didn't work, but ultimately there's nothing you can do about it. Just one of those things that happens and eventually you'll move on no matter how badly it hurts to even try.

General Comment:One line seems most important to me:
"But in the morning I fled, left a note and it read"
What I think he was saying in this line is that he is the one that is f**ked up he had to fled because he cant love.
when he's saying "someday you will be loved" he really means I wish I could be the one who would love you but I cant.

On tiny vessels she was nothing and always meant nothing:
"Yeah, she is beautiful, but she don't mean a thing to me"

    here she is more:
"I once knew a girl in the years of my youth
With eyes like the summer, all beauty and truth"
