Lyrics for Someday You Will Be Loved as interpreted by sethbrown

Someday You Will Be Loved Lyrics
I once knew a girl in the years of my youth
With eyes like the summer, all beauty and truth
But in the morning I fled, left a note and it read
"Someday you will be loved"

I cannot pretend that I felt any regret
Because each broken heart will eventually mend
And as the blood runs red down the needle and thread
Someday you will be loved

You'll be loved, you'll be loved
Like you never have known
And the memories of me
Will seem more like bad dreams
Just a series of blurs
Like I never occurred
Someday you will be loved

You may feel alone when you're falling asleep
And every time tears roll down your cheeks
But I know your heart belongs to someone you've yet to meet
And someday you will be loved

You'll be loved, you'll be loved
Like you never have known
And the memories of me
Will seem more like bad dreams
Just a series of blurs
Like I never occurred
Someday you will be loved

You'll be loved, you'll be loved
Like you never have known
And the memories of me
Will seem more like bad dreams
Just a series of blurs
Like I never occurred
Someday you will be loved
Someday you will be loved

YESSSSSSSS OMG i was thinking the SAME THING when i was listening, before i had read your comment.

I love tiny vessels and both of these songs relate to my life..

its almost like now that its been awhile since tiny vessels maybe he feels more mature about the situation and the girl has grown a little older and he has friendly, positive feelings toward her, and wishes her the best.

Maybe now she does mean something to him, whereas in tiny vessels she didnt mean anything to him..

I didn't even think about "Tiny Vessels" -- but now that I look at it, it makes perfect sense! The summer, he felt no regret in either song, he surely didn't love her.
Good stuff. =)

i think this song might go a bit deeper than tiny vessels

tiny vessels seems like someone he kinda just slept with a few times on vacation but he seems to have more of a connection with this girl

And every time tears roll down your cheeks

^that line kinda tells me that he did like her at least which is a bit more to say in tiny vessels

in tiny vessels he admited to being attracted to the girl but that was about it

I agree - I think this could be the opposite of Tiny Vessels. In tiny vessels, he gives the impression that this girl is someone he JUST met and he's leaving soon. In Someday You Will Be Loved, It seems like he has regret about wanting to leave her. In Tiny Vessels, he basically says "I don't care about you" in Someday You Will Be Loved he says "you are awesome and I was very close to loving you - but it's time to move on, I'm leaving, I'm sorry"

Anybody see that aspect?

ben doesnt express regret in this song, thats evident in the fifth line:

"I cannot pretend that I felt any regret
Cause each broken heart will eventually mend"

this is just about some girl he knew and that he was leaving. whether or not they had a deep relationship is up to your interpretation.

i happen to like the idea of a tiny vessels ending.

i really like death cab, but i really can't stand this song. it sounds like scarbourgh fair or something.

it really does lack the intelligence of their other songs unfortunately, and i find i have to skip it on the album

it seems to me like it could be a continuation of tiny vessels, not an opposite. although on tiny vessels, he says he doesn't care about the girl, i get the impression that there's so much more to it than that. like he doesn't mean it, and he's just saying that he doesn't like her and she doesn't mean anything to make it easier to accept how badly the relationship ended and how much both sides hurt.
And i see this song as a continuation of that in the way that he's saying that was then, and this is now. I felt hurt and betrayed and you were the last person i wanted to be around then (in tiny vessels) but now that we've both split and had time to think and grow as our own people, i understand that i'm better for being in the relationship at all and i wish you all the best. where tiny vessels was a venting write-off song, this is the one that was written after time was taken to collect his thoughts. they're both over the situation and he's saying, i'm in a place now where i can genuinely want to see you happy, with someone who is better for you than i was.

it sounds like he wishes the girl all the best and that he feels sorry that he can't love her. he feels bad and admits it in:
"And memories of me
Will seem more like bad dreams"

he was a bad dream for her and perhaps she means something to him, but not enough.

maybe it's not a continuation of tiny vessels. maybe it is.

As much as I love this song...it is so sad.

This is a cop out. This is some guy saying "I am justifying breaking your heart and treating you like shit, because someday, you will find a guy who treats you amazingly...that's just not me, therefore, I don't care."

Sad.

I agree with HeyAmanda. Ben Gibbard said in Spin that he thought this song was so hopeful and happy, but it makes me sick. It makes me think that he's like every other guy... just justifying breaking up with you and trying to be nice even though they don't care.

I think this song really is sweet though. It has good intentions, and as much as it sounds like a cop out, I can picture a guy saying this to a girl. Maybe not necessarily a girl he has a substantial relationship with, but maybe someone he just met and cares about a lot but just doesn't feel like it's working out. I think it's sweet.

I don't think it's mean at all. It's just him being sorry that he doesn't love her. He wishes he could do that for her, but knows it's wrong to stay with her. But he knows she's lovable...and how much more comforting is that?

as other people have said... it can be sad.. it can be hopeful... it can be mean.
i'd say parts of it are just plain cold... and others aren't.

personally i can relate to this a lot. i'm dating someone who i truly believe loves me more than they should... and i'm starting to lose those feelings toward them.

if i would break up with them, i'd hope they found someone who would truly love them as much as they love me.

like any song by dcfc, it goes deeper than just the surface...it doenst just have to do with the fact that hes leaving a girl that he liked. but it does have the same qulaity as tiny vessels, becuase in both he mentions their beauty, and worth: tiny vessels- she was beautiful; someday- eyes like the summer, all beauty and truth.....and yet they arnt worth enough to him! these songs are beautiful and ironic

Wow this song is amazing. I've never looked this closely at the lyrics before. Maybe because some guy just did the same thing to me as what's being explained in the song.
It almost makes me feel at peace with him.

Aaaaaah yes this is IS is the end to tiny vessels. i always mix the two songs up because they just fit so well together... and yet again i relate to the song as i have encountered many of these type of guys...
the song makes me sad in a way, but it is good in the sense that it is very honest -

I cannot pretend that I felt any regret
Cause each broken heart will eventually mend
And as the blood runs red down the needle and thread
Someday you will be loved

i love the song, what can i say?
