The feeling then gets to the brain It means you got it coming and you ain't got a chain Their only attire is a typical vice But if it gets too well, well, you ain't being nice, no So follow the lines ?til they tear up your eyes You won't be even seeing if you ain't growing lies They've bought all the shit that should never be sold They put a gun above it and a narrow behold We are the happy landfill We are the happy landfill Alright The feeling then gets to the brain It means you got it coming and you ain't got a chain Their only attire is a typical vice But if it gets too well, well, you ain't being nice, no So follow the lines ?til they tear up your eyes You won't be even seeing if you ain't growing lies They've bought all the shit that should never be sold (We are the happy landfill) They put a gun above it and a narrow behold (We are the happy landfill) Alright

General Comment:The song is actually called "We Are Happy Landfill" or at least that's what it says on my copy of D-Sides

General Comment:I think it means people the government put in an area to fill the land up (like a comune) so the people tell the communist government "we are happy landfill"

General Comment:It's really too bad they couldn't find a place for this on Demon Days. I love it.

General Comment:Hmm...Happy Landfill wasn't on Demon Days, but it was on the limited edition DVD. It fits with O Green World if you think about both of them in an environmental way...but both also work when you think about war...

It means you got it coming and you ain't got a chain

as 2-Dz said, chain can mean weapon...

    Their only attire
    Is a typical vice
But if it gets you well, well you ain't being nice, no
    No!

War supporters only sound convincing because they're using the typical vices...nationalism, duty to your country, etc...
But if you're convinced by them, you're not "being nice" to the country you're fighting...

    So follow the lives
Till they cut up your eyes

So keep seeing people killed until the shrapnels explode in your eyes...(maybe a bit too much? hehe...)

You won't be even seeing if you ain't growing lies

Your eyes will be destroyed by the shrapnels unless you use a weapon (lies)

Idk...just my little interpretation for thought ^ ^

General Comment:Maybe a little lofty and presumtuous, but I think there might be a little Jungian psychology in this song.

    So follow the lives
Till they cut up your eyes
You won't be even seeing if you ain't growing lies
    Then bought all the shit
    That should never be sold
They put a gun above it and a narrow behold

The concept of the self, the ego, and the persona are coming into play here, the persona being your outwardly projected image that fits into society's norms, the ego being yourself at a given moment, and the self being "what you could be, and what you should be." The ideal method of living is to match the self to the ego, but a common shallow existence that is popular in today's world is for the ego to match up with the persona. So, in following the lives of, as cliche as this sounds, "shallow celebrities," (D-Sides seems to have this as a theme, as evidenced by the music video to Rockit), your eyes, your inner eye with its focus on the self, is cut up. You are at this point, through your indoctrination by common society, so focused on the persona, that you "won't be seeing if you ain't growing lies." Growing lies-growing a persona that is acceptable to those around you.

"You bought all the shit that should never be sold." Is referring to the making of all things that are good for the self into buyable commodities. So I suppose the Gorillaz live in the Happy Landfill, which may not be as glamorous as the world of celebrity, commodity, and the ego-persona relationship, but is good for the self, which when matched with your ego, brings about true happiness.

    Just a thought.
