You were one step behind
In that dismal school of mind
Needle and percocets
Instead of books on student's desks

We were so charming
The future was alarming
But now don't you go look so proud
'Cause guess who's laughing now

And we've learned that life is one big game
Where the winners are all getting paid
So stop dragging your feet behind
You can't live with your folks all your life

So on those days I'm in your car
We drove the steering wheel towards the median
Joking that we'd end our lives
But we weren't joking all the time

Start a band, throw a brick
You lazy hipsters make me sick
Don't clap your hands
Don't start to dance
Don't let them know that you're a fan
You're living in hiding
But really, friend, have you forgotten
'Cause you may be playing your music loud
But it's drowned out by your mouth

And we've learned that life is one big game
Where the winners are all getting paid
So stop dragging your feet behind
You can't live with your folks all your life

So on those days I'm in your car
We drove the steering wheel towards the median
Joking that we'd end our lives
But we weren't joking all the time

And we've learned that life is one big game
Where the winners are all getting paid
So stop dragging your feet behind
You can't live with your folks all your life

So on those days I'm in your car
We drove the steering wheel towards the median
Joking that we'd end our lives
But we weren't joking all the time

General Comment:FOB used to be so good when they played fun pop/punk. It's been downhill ever since Take This To Your Grave though.

This song is awesome and my favorite from NOY. Definitely about the dreaded scenester kids and I'm guessing probably in part about his experiences with fans while he was with The Movielife. Sadly a lot of the hardcore scene fans up here are even bigger tools than the ones who like newer Fall Out Boy... :(

General Comment:“you were one step behind
in that dismal school of mind”

This means that the person they are talking about was behind in some school, that was more like a popularity contest.

    “we were so charming
    the future was alarming
but now don't you go look so proud
    'cause guess who's laughing now”

This means that these guys had it all, but things are starting to change.

“and we've learned that life is one big game
where the winners are all getting paid
so stop dragging your feet behind
you can't live with your folks all your life.”

This means that the winners of this game, are the ones who have it all, and since the rest are lagging behind, they are the losers.

“start a band, throw a brick
you lazy hipsters make me sick”

This mean that all you have to do to be famous is start a band and and be ‘bad’ and that it would be okay if others did all the work, like record companies. And people like them.

    “ don’t clap your hands
    don't start to dance
don't let them know that you're a fan”

This is directed at the audience to not give them any support because they don’t deserve it.

“cause you may be playing your music loud
but it's drowned out by your mouth”

This means that all those bands may have good chords, but all of that is destroyed be what comes out of their mouth.

This song is basically about how bad the music scene is, and this song is for people who want a change. This is a good song. Fall Out Boy made their own version of the same issue, but personally, I think they are a group of those ‘lazy hipsters’ and they ‘make me sick’. Nobody can do a song like this better than nightmare of you!

General Comment:you GOTTA love the screaming part. It's pretty much amazing. And clapping twice after "don't clap your hands" is completely necessary when jamming out to this song.

General Comment:It's about Scene Kids.I read an article on NOY in AP and it made it all clear.

The song is about the hardcore Scene and how cliche it can be.And how arrogant and narrowminded some scene kids are.
"Start a band or throw a brick. You lazy hipsters make me sick"

He also makes a reference to how egotistic they can be and how they think hardcore music is the best music around.
"Kid, you may be playing your music loud, but it's drowned out by your mouth."

Or how some of them are posers....
"You're living in Manhattan.Where are you really from?Have you forgotten?"

Or how some of them think they have the worst life in the world because they hate their parents.
"So stop dragging your feet behind. You can't live with the folks all your life."
"Joking that we'd end our lives, but we weren't joking all the time."

I believ this was brought on by the pressure he felt in the scene when He was the post-hardcore/ punk band The MovieLife.
