I think this song could have two meanings, one secular interpretation and one Christian one. Looking at it from a religious point of view, I think it's about a girl trying to break free from the ugly things in her life and embrace God. He knows all her pain and he slays the doubts that are in her mind. The angel is Satan or bad things that represent Satan's work and I think that the kiss is meant to symbolize her final farewell to him.
From a secular point of view, you can easily replace God with an ordinary man. Perhaps she is in love with someone who uses her and makes her feel like nothing, yet he seems to know everything about her so sometimes it feels as though he can briefly make her whole.
This song is absolutely amazing. I can't say it's my favorite off the album though because everytime I decide that one is my favorite, I pay full attention to another song I hadn't before and I find a new favorite. I love Flyleaf and I am so lucky because I saw them in February and now I get to see them again in two days at the Family Values Tour. So happy!

To me, this song was about her boyfriend who died. I don't exactly have the line-by-line vreakdown of it, but it sounds like she's sad about a boy, and her boyfriend did die (so I've heard), and she spiraled into a depression.

First off all this song is extremely beautiful and i love it. Amazing songs like this are rare and well flyleaf are amazing.

I think this song is about someones connection to God, and considering Lacey was divorced it might have something to do with her trying to move on from her.

That might have something to do with God and the way he sent down the holy spirit to help the deciples and how when she felt God she felt whole as if she was missing him her whole life.

To me this song is about God and her relationship with God as she starts to feel her faith grow stronger, but i'm probably wrong.

I agree with devilslittlesister,(wow). The girl is trying to break free from a life of sin and embrace God. It says in 2 Corinthians 7:10 Godly Sorrow brings Repentance that leads to Salvation and leaves no regret, but Worldly Sorrow leads to Death. I think its safe to say since she says, " Joy will Come ", that she repented and was saved. It says in Psalm 116:3 The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came upon me; I was overcome by trouble and Sorrow. Then I called on the name of the Lord: " O Lord, save me! " The Lord says in Jeremiah 31:13 I will give them Comfort and Joy instead of Sorrow. Psalm 91:14 " Because he/she loves me, " says the Lord, " I will rescue him/her; I will protect him/her, for he/she acknowledges my name. He/She will call upon me, and I will answer him/her; I will be with him/her in trouble, I will deliver him/her and honor him/her. With long life will I satisfy him/her and show him/her my Salvation. I like this song. Its good. Its beautiful.I wish people didnt talk about if they are christian or not. They are good , thats what counts.When I herd this song the first time I teared up of course. I think the meaning not something to over analyze.Its pretty obvious.No secret messages or anything.lol

I believe this song has more than 2 meanings 3 meanings or even 10 at that... Its to listener and he/she hears the song.. and what their going through at the time.. or mood their in honestly..
I may be wrong..

Theres alot of more ppl going though alot more than

I think that this song is about the crucifixion of Jesus. Because sorrow lasted through the night he was gone. She says kiss eachother one more time because it means a farewell, people say this sort of stuff when they have a close relationship with God. It also says He knew each tear before it came because God can tell eachother when people are sad.

Ok you guys that think flyleaf is a non christian band what delusional world are you living in???
Have you watched any of their vidoes on you tube or anywhere??? Laceys testionmy is directed right toward her music and she says they are about God...and i think she would know better than you cuz she kinda writes their songs?!?!? They have a ministry of reaching people other bands cant because of their music style...

I love this song..i think its about a person going through something in their life and how they have a glint of hope "the stars" that God has given them...it relates to my life and has gotten me through so much...it has given me hope when i couldn't find any!

I guess it could be about God or something but this is my interpretation of it. I first thought it might be about death but now I can really strongly see the rape theme.

Maybe his could be referring to b4 he attempts to rape her. Everything is peaceful and normal but soon he will "perforate" it.

I thought this chorus was about losing a loved one. But also it could be about after the rape, she feel nothing but sorrow and she realises this act will stay with her for eternity and she wishes it would go. The "just one second" line could refer to how she did feel happy but then it turned nasty and the last line could be referring to the rape.

It’s so obvious that Flyeleaf is a Christian rockband. But I don’t think that this particular song is about God. I interpreted it to be about the death of someone she loves.
