Lyrics for i'm sorry as interpreted by thesimpleways

i'm sorry Lyrics
I'm sorry.
I don't mean to remember.
It's true that I dream less often.
I'm not ashamed of that long December...
Your hand's coming down again.
I close my eyes and brace myself.
I only noticed your face.
No matter what you're gonna build my shell, and leave the salty taste.
I'm falling.
I'm shedding my skin; but it's not time I'm told.
I am aware of what you mean and by then I'm only ten years old.
I close my eyes and brace myself.
I only noticed your face.
No matter what your gonna build my shell and leave the salty taste.
My scars are yours today.
This story ends so good.
I love you and I understand that you stood where I stood.
I close my eyes and brace my self.
I only notice your face.
No matter what your gonna break my shell and leave the salty taste.
I'm done healing.

The lyrics to this song are actually:

I'm sorry. I don't mean to remember.
It's true that I dream less often
I'm not ashamed of that long december.
Your hand's coming down again.

I close my eyes and brace myself
I only noticed your face
No matter what you're gonna build my shell
No matter what you're gonna build my shell.

I'm falling. I'm shedding my skin.
But it's not time I'm told.
I am aware of what you mean and by then,
I'm only ten years old.

I close my eyes and brace myself
I only noticed your face
No matter what you're gonna build my shell
No matter what you're gonna build my shell.

My scars are yours today.
This story ends so good.
I love you and I understand
that you stood where I stood.

I close my eyes and brace myself
I only noticed your face
No matter what you're gonna break my shell
No matter what you're gonna break my shell.
I’m done healing.

i'm not sure about the beginning..
but at the end, she is talking about how Jesus takes our scars and He can heal us from the things we went through and in the beginning they built the shell, but He breaks it.
lala.. i'm not good at explaining, lol.

I think that this song is probably about being abused by someone close to you, or someone you love. Maybe a family member?
The line;
"I love you and I understand that you stood where I stood", Makes me think that maybe the abuser had also experienced the same things as a child. After all, we live what we learn.
Very good lyrics overall, I like them very much.

What I got form the song was this -

She is singing about having been abused, and trying to heal from it. I think she says she is sorry, that she doesnt mean to remember because she is trying to move on and live instead of dwelling on it. At the end she says "My scars are yours today" because she no longer holds on to the abuse. And because she has made peace with it, she has the ability to forgive the person who abused her, because she understands they were abused too.

well, lacey was on drugs when she was ten years old, so maybe it's about her moving on from her drug abuse and trying to live her life in the now, and forgiving herself and finding redemption through her religion or whatever she uses as a release.

I think this is about her child hood. "Your hand's coming down again. I close my eyes and brace myself." I believe it was about abuse.

"No matter what you're gonna build my shell" is about taking that abuse and letting it make her stronger. "leave the salty taste" is about leaving the bitterness.

"I'm shedding my skin; but it's not time I'm told.
I am aware of what you mean and by then I'm only ten years old." Is about how she grew up too quickly.

"This story ends so good. I love you and I understand that you stood where I stood." Is about how her life turned out 'good' and that she forgives the person who had abused her and still loves them.

Maybe about her mother?

I agree with sissani, she was abused and she didnt understand then but now she knows and understands why it happend, she was sorry for remembering her past on which she tried to forget. the line, "i dream less often im not afraid of that long december." means that maybe the abuse took place in december and maybe she used to dream about it, and now that she is dwelling on it less that she doesnt dream about it and she isnt afraid anymore because she forgived the person who held it against her.

"Your hand's coming down again...."
Either she's talking about being hit or sexually assaulted.

"I'm shedding my skin; but it's not time I'm told."
I read that rape victims usually want to "wash up" after they've been raped. Maybe that's what that means...she might have been raped.

Guys, it's freaking abuse. What she means by "I'm Sorry" is the fact that she upset the person that's abusing her, and here comes the abuse again. In the last verse, she's talking about how she understands what the abuser was going through and why they took it out on her and understands that it wasn't completely their fault.

When she says, "And its not time ((I always thought it was till) I'm told/I am aware of what you mean by then/ I'm only ten years old" She's meaning that she just plain knows what's going to happen, along with referring to the "long december" and stuff in the first verse.

I don't know why you guys are having trouble on dissecting this song... it's so straightforward.

I think this song does have to deal with being abused.

My scars are yours today.
This story ends so good.
I love you and I understand that you stood where I stood.
I close my eyes and brace my self.
I only notice your face.

this part of the song says how her scars affect the person who scared her and how the person has to deal with the fact that they did this so its almost like revenge for her being abused.

the part where she says I love you and I understand that you stood where I stood is maybe saying she knew and cared for the person who did this to her, and she understands that maybe the person who did this to her was also abused because they stood where she did once.

and at the end she accepts what has happened to her and she heals herself and does not let it bother her anymore.

and what I think -
I'm not afraid of that long December, your hand's coming down again - God

I'm falling, I'm shedding my skin, but it's not time I'm told - doesn't realize God is trying to save her

I'm only 10 years old - she started doing drugs and etc when she was 10

I love you and I understand that you stood where I stand - Jesus went through all the same pain and sorrow and died to take ours way

great song

Lacey is an admirable person and this song proves it. This song is about being abused as a child by her father or mother and trying to forget about it, and she gets beat but sees her abuser's face filled with pain and realizes that they were in the same position long ago. She admires them and still believes they know best. She remembers all this later and is relived of her worries. I think.

well I was really wondering about this song so I researched and this is what lacey had to say about it in an interview

~Lacey is reluctant to go into details but says simply, "It's about abuse and it's a little personal. But the thing about it is I like the way it kind of leaves it open to interpreting it. It's just about a bad experience that maybe you hung onto for a while and then you ended up seeing the good that came out of it and being healed after it all."
She will admit it comes from personal experience but won't share details even when I gently press her. "I've never talked about it. Nobody's ever asked me about it. I don't really want to talk about it for different reasons. The words in it have to do with dealing with problems at home. It's really straightforward." When the minidisc player is shut off she goes into more detail and I can understand why she doesn't want to go public. But for you dear reader, I'll have to draw a veil over the song here.~

I think the last part means that she met someone that went through a similar situation...not necesarily that she was saying she forgave the person who did it...but that's just a thought
