The shadows of our past" ..."them" meaning women,girls. They are pretty much saying that most guys are good and descent at least they are, and they say what they mean.."i love you" (compromising our hearts) they love them but now they are what a most girls want guys to be towards them, and now they become the "dogs". The roles have reversed. And they just don't care anymore, they're sick of the reputation that is no longer true, they're sick of being labeled as that when the women/girls are doing that, while asing for a descent guy. (thats why they are't really any descent guys like us anymore, because of that). "I won't let this love die"... the love for themselves as who they really are (good descent guys) and the love for the kind of girl they're still looking for.
