Where do you come from boy, could you come anywhere?
You come from country where water flows free to the sea

I heard the English said, you got the best of it
When Raleigh washed up and found solid gold in his hands

There was a woman who gave all her pearls,
The ocean rolling, rolled them from the new world

There was a hill coolie, and a transatlantic slave,
There came a day when they broke free of their chains,
Now in country tempers run hot like Caribbean sun,
Said Gyasi when he went home

General Comment:I think it's awesome that they made the video with the backstory and everything and it's really cool what the song's about. I also like that they don't really need it because I think the song really speaks for itself in the way it just feels like it's about this great traditional culture and a conflict with something new.

I also agree that they're fantastic in concert, their music just feels so much more powerful live. The problem though is that drunk frat boys seem to love them for some reason and they kindof fuck up the concerts. Also, and I know this is wierd coming from a guy, but I'm amazed (and jealous) by how attractive they all are, lol.

General Comment:they made a video about where they got this song from. Basically Eon went to Guyana where his familys from and the bass rhythm just came into his head and so they wrote the song around that.

The song, i belive, is mainly about when the europeans took over guyana or whatnot and all th stuff that happened.

    this basically explains everything: youtube.com/…

General Comment:Yeah this is about Guyana. When the English found gold there they were always taking from Guyana but never giving anything in return. No matter what the people of Guyana [rebels] would do to stand up for themselves, they would always be breaking the law. I love this song.

General Comment:i Play bass so i'm really into this song, the bassest, Eon was walking down the seawall in gyauna and got the awesome bass line and the guitar player formed the lyrics around it.

General Comment:heres lyrics that seem more correct:
Where do you come from man, you come from anywhere?
You come from country where water flows free to the sea
I heard the English said, you got the best of it
When raleigh washed up and found gold all in his hands

There was a woman who gave all her pearls
The ocean rolling, rolled them from the new world
And in the morning, rebel, you come
But you know, he’s only breaking the law

There was a hill coolie, and a transatlantic slave,
There came a day when they broke away from all their chains
In country tempers run like Caribbean sun
and the water flows, Gyasi when he went home

There was a woman who gave all her pearls
The ocean rolling, rolled them from the new world
And in the morning, rebel, you come
But you know, he’s only breaking the law
