Lyrics for I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor as interpreted by obsessed

I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor Lyrics
Stop making the eyes at me
I'll stop making the eyes at you
And what it is that suprises me
Is that I don't really want you to
And your shoulders are frozen (cold as the night)
Oh, but you're an explosion (you're dynamite)
Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand
Lighting the fuse might result in a bang, with a bang-go!

I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance, or
I don't know what you're looking for
I said I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
From 1984!

I wish you'd stop ignoring me
Because you're sending me to despair
Without a sound, yeah, you're calling me
And I don't think it's very fair
That your shoulders are frozen (colder than night)
Oh, but you're an explosion (you're dynamite)
Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand
Lighting the fuse might result in a bang, with a bang-go!

I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance, or
I don't know what you're looking for
I said I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
From 1984!

Oh, there ain't no love, no Montagues or Capulets
Just banging tunes and DJ sets
And dirty dancefloors and dreams of naughtiness!

I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance, or
I don't know what you're looking for
I said I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
From 1984!

I think that this song and "Michael" by FF are sort of the anthems to the new music. The lyric could'nt be more indie. I just don't get the "Your name isn't Rio but I don't care for sand". I mean, I know what he's talking about but in the context of the song I have no idea. Love the Shakespeare that they put on there too.

Great song, great words. The 'You're name isn't Rio...' line is a reference to the Duran Durna song, with the chorus 'Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand'. The girl in that Duran Duran song was being painted as really exotic and Alex Turner is pretty much saying the scene in this song couldn't be further from that one.

Excellent song I hope that they go all the way and then some!

One thing tho! How do they know what a Robot dancing to Eectro-pop from 1984 would look like? none of them were born! LOL

The "Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984" line is most likely a reference to the book 1984 by George Orwell.

Im not sure of that, I think that you may be reading into things a little 2 deeply!

Im a Librarian and I am pretty sure that no robots danced 2 Electro-pop in George Orwell's 1984!

im absolutely mad about these monkeys at the mo.. i assumed that the 'dancing like a robot' line was relative to that crazy robot dance.. and libarian person should accept things point of view

What if the 'point of views' are blatantly ill-informed?

The lyrics to this track aren't great, there's only a bit of wit but it is 'scraping the barrel' as Alex (lyricist) once said. The inflexions of way he sings is very special though.

The lyrics aren't amazing, they're ok, but let's face it, it's not Bob Dylan.

It's the music and the way Alex Turner sings it that makes it such a fantastic track. It should be banned to sing this song without a Sheffield accent.

I think that the way they play the instruments has a kind of monkey-ish quality about it.... but that might just be me.

He used 1984 because it rhymes with floor, i doubt it has any real meaning

ALEX TURNERS VOICE ROCKS...The sheiffield accent is wicked, and you can't sing any of their song without the accent cause itsounds weird.

the arctic monkeys are so awesome. i agree, the accent is part of what makes the song so good, without it, it would be nowhere near as fun.

I didnt realise this before someone put the point across. i am currently reading 1984 and in the book it shows how in the 'future' there will be no love. in other words evryone is lyk a robot. it kind of adresses how theres no real emotional love anymore especially since the bridge backs up this with 'Oh there ain't no love no, Montagues or Capulets'.
though on the other hand the Duran Duran reference 'Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand' cud be to do with the date as Duran Duran though im not a big fan were around in the early 80s.
Gr8 song but theyve got far better ones.

It's about seeing a girl out and about - on the bus and thinking... ooof I bet she looks good on the dancefloor. Hence the title. Suppose i am stating the obvious.

I think the lyrics are ace. Not too deep or over the top. Simple. witty. fun and they just explain everything so PERFECTLY!
