Maybe I've been a problem
Maybe I'm the one to blame
But even when I turn it off
And blame myself the outcome feels the same

I've been thinking maybe I've been part of the cloudy
Maybe I'm the chance of rain
And maybe I'm overcast
And maybe all my luck's washed down the drain

I've been thinking about everyone
Everyone you look so lonely

But when I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
I see someone else
When I look at the stars
The stars
I feel like myself

Stars looking at a planet
Watching entropy and pain
And maybe start to wonder how
The chaos in our lives could pass as sane

I've been thinking if the meaning of resistance
Of a hope beyond my own
And suddenly the infinite and penitent
Begin to look like home

I've been thinking about everyone
Everyone you look so empty

But when I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
I see someone else
When I look at the stars
The stars
I feel like myself
Yeah!

Everyone, everyone who feels so lonely
Everyone, yeah everyone who feels so empty

When I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
When I look at the stars
I feel like myself
When I look at the stars
The stars
I see someone
OHH!

General Comment:I kind of feel like this song is refurring to the TWLOHA story. In the story it refures to Switchfoot, and their support. But it mainly talks about the girl who was going through treatment, and how she just loved the stars. And everything in the story would relate to the stars.
In this song, it even mentions a couple of things that were quoted from her. Which could be on accident, but maybe not? I don't know. It just really stuck out to me.
I love Switchfoot. Their support for not only Christianity, but for victims of SI and depression is awesome. They're so great.

General Comment:This song is all about the heavens. Looking up at the stars, Foreman sees that this universe is so much more bigger than him and this world for that matter. All of the problems and chaos that goes on here on earth is so trivial compared to the greatness beyond what we can see and hear. When he looks at the stars... he sees someone... at the end he leaves off the "else"... hmmmmm... maybe he sees that a God made this?

General Comment:What I always hear in this song is just that when we look at god's creation (stars symbolize this in the song) it shows us that there is someone else unseen that made it all, and that there is no need for loneliness because this being (god) is always everywhere with us and loves us. It's one of the more optimistic songs on the album (btw one of the best albums ever).

General Comment:First song I heard of Switchfoot, and it's my favourite ever.
The lyrics suit with me. Since I'm a little kid, I've always looked up the stars and said that there's someone, out there. I never believe in God, but yes, I do believe that we are not the only planet with like on it. It's highly illogical to think the opposite.

This is one of my favourites verses of all songs ever made:

    Stars looking at a planet
    Watching entropy and pain
And maybe start to wonder how the chaos in our lives could pass as sane
I've been thinking about the meaning of resistance
Of a hope beyond my own
And suddenly the infinite and penitent begin to look like home

General Comment:This is one of my favorite songs ever
The lyrics, "when I look at the stars I feel like myself", describes me completely
When i grow up it is my dream to work for NASA, and when I look up at the stars I see everything i am, everything I am going to be, and I see the greatness of God.
There is nothing like looking up at the night sky to realize how incredibly small you are. It is so humbling.

General Comment:Switchfoot is a Christian band so what the lyrics are saying is that when he looks at the "stars", (in other words God) he doesnt feel as lonely and things are clear to him, and he "feels like himself"

General Comment:well to understand this song you must have kind of a good vocabulary, or just a dictionary.
there are words in this song that have a deep meaning.
the band is a Christian band and they are talking about how they see a problem with the world but cant seem to fix it on their own.
"even when i turn it off and blame my self the outcome feels the same."
the recognise a problem but they cant seem to know how to fix it. thats when he or she looks at the stars. the stars could very well represent Jesus or God. becuase when he looks at everyone else, they look all the same. but when he "looks at the stars" he sees someone else that makes him or her feel comfortable. so now that we figured out that stars represent God or Jesus we can now replace that word with either GOd or Jesus.
in the next stanza it says "stars looking at the planets watching entorpy and pain" replace stars with God and this is where vocab comes in handy. the word entropy means "of inevitable social degeneration or decline" so God sees the world and sees "entropy and pain" and he wonders why we still keep living like this like its okay. so the guy or girl starts to think about a "hope" beyond him or herself and he/she starts to see Infinite (a reference to infinite life which was a promis by God given to man) and penitent (which means the feeling of sorrow for sin and wanting to ask for forgivness) begin to look good to him. and so the rest is self explanitory.

over all a very good song with a very deep meaning.

General Comment:Hey. I'm 50 years old. I don't know anything about Christian music, but I heard this song today and I felt like it was written for me. Since I was a little boy, when I looked at the stars in the night sky, it always made me think of God. I wish i could meet whoever wrote this song because every single word felt like it was written by Jesus just for me. Thankyou!!!

General Comment:First off, I would love to say that this song is very inspiring to me. "I've been thinking 'bout the meaning of resistence, of a hope beyond my own", this part of it really made me think. It's my favorite part of the song.

This song obviously means looking deep into yourself to find who you truly are. Our lives are filled with drama, chaos, and constant worrying of how others see us. This is about how you see yourself, which, in my personal opinion, is the most important thing of all things. If you're happy with who you are, and if you're confident, others will see you as a happy, confident person. Very, very inspiring song. Long live Switchfoot!
