Lyrics for It Ends Tonight as interpreted by BrandNew1208

It Ends Tonight Lyrics
Your subtleties, they strangle me
I can't explain myself at all
And all that wants and all that needs
All I don't want to need at all

The walls start breathing
My mind's unweaving
Maybe it's best you leave me alone
A weight is lifted on this evening
I give the final blow

When darkness turns to light
It ends tonight, it ends tonight

A falling star
Least I fall alone
I can't explain what you can't explain
You're finding things that you didn't know
I look at you with such disdain

The walls start breathing
My mind's unweaving
Maybe it's best you leave me alone
A weight is lifted on this evening
I give the final blow

When darkness turns to light
It ends tonight
Just a little insight
Won't make this right
It's too late to fight
It ends tonight, it ends tonight

Now I'm on my own side
It's better than being on your side
It's my fault when you're blind
It's better that I see it through your eyes
All these thoughts locked inside
Now you're the first to know

When darkness turns to light
It ends tonight, it ends tonight
Just a little insight
Won't make this right
It's too late to fight
It ends tonight, it ends

When darkness turns to light
It ends tonight, it ends tonight
Just a little insight
Won't make this right
It's too late to fight
It ends tonight, it ends tonight
Tonight, insight
When darkness turns to light
It ends tonight

Simply beautiful. Seems like it would be a great closing track to the album. It just has that feel to it. And I believe it is definitely about a failed relationship, and then possibly still trying to make it work-out after it has ended. I can definitely relate to that.

This song is one of my favorites off the new album. I agree with Translucent, and that this song is about a failed relationship. I think he still loves the girl, but knows that the relationship won't work. It might also be saying that he doesn't want a relationship anymore, but they are still sleeping together.

well i think this song is more about him choosing to move on with his life without her. anyway i agree that this song should be the closing track.

i love this song except for the line, "i give the final blow". seems like they were stretching to find a word that went with "alone". i don't think a guy should be singing about giving any kind of blow.

I love the instrumentals in the beginning and end of the song. Totally a repeat button worthy song. I'm wondering about the line "when darkness turns to light, it ends tonight" because there could be 2 meanings. 1. when darkness turns to light, this night will be over. OR 2. when darkness turns to light, "this" relationship ends.

hey ohxishxitsxdavid, pretty funny comment, but i'm pretty sure they meant blow as in punch or strike or something like that

it's also known as the sexy song, according to tyson. this song makes you feel so many emotions. it's like sadness, but a feeling of completeness, because it's coming to an end. i suck at articulating my thoughts.

so he's got a relationship
it goes sour
everything detail about the girl, the subtleties, kill him.

"The walls are breathing
My mind's unweaving"
things are coming down on him (the walls are alive), everything's crashing.

"It's my fault when you're blind
It's better that I see it through your eyes"
the girl's blind and he's looking from her perspective to see nothing. nothing as in their future together? that's a total guess.

"Just a little insight won't make this right
It's too late to fight"
trying to solve everything and talk the situation out won't help, since it's too late to fight

i dont know if there's any relation..
but the first time i heard this song, i at once recalled a poem i had read in english class:

Break of Day, by John Donne

check it out. there're some similarities. it's a tough poem to crack and interpret.. but once you do, it's pretty interesting.

hehh, you might think they might have a little in common. or that they nothing in common whatsoever. hahah, oh well :P

oh man, i sound like a geek now, huh?
hehh, sorry:P

I really like this song, prob my fave by AAR. Here's my take on it:

It's about being in a relationship where he realizes they're both unhappy, and he is tired of playing games with her. He's tired of trying to fix the problem because it's unfixable - he just wasn't meant to be with her. He can't be happy with her, even if she does have some great qualities, and he realizes he has to be miserable alone for a while in order to EVER be happy again.

"Your subtleties, they strangle me"

The little things about you, the games you play, they kill me.

"I can't explain myself at all
And all that wants and all that needs
I don't want to need at all"

I can't explain where we went wrong or exactly what is wrong with this relationship. I can however tell you that I'm tired of needing you or the things you give me, because in the end, you only make me miserable.

"The walls are breathing
My mind's unweaving
Maybe it's best you leave alone"

Things are getting intense, but you have to leave tonight. I am breaking up with you now, I need to be alone.

"A weight is lifted on this evening
I give the final blow"

I'm taking the weight of our relationship off our shoulders as I give the final blow aka break up with you, tell you it's over.

"When darkness turns to light
It ends tonight, it ends tonight"

Darnkess turning to light represents not only the night turning to day, but his life going from being dark (with her) to being light (happy again) when he's alone.

"A falling star, at least I fall alone"

It hurts to be alone, but it feels better to be alone than to be with her.

"I can't explain what you can't explain
You're finding things that you didn't know
I look at you with such disdain"

He doesn't know where they went wrong (as mentioned above). She's also finding things in him she doesn't like anymore, and when the two look at each other, they don't feel love, they feel disdain.

"...
Just a little insight won't make this right
It's too late to fight
It ends tonight, it ends tonight"

In relationships, usually someone will say "or we're fighting because I've been jealous lately/started my new job today/whatever", or they think one little solution will fix their problems. Here he says that nothing can fix their relationship. It's broken beyond repair. The only solution is to leave.

"Now I'm on my own side
It's better than bein' on your side"

Now he's single but it's better than being with her.

"It's my fault when you're blind
It's better that I see it through your eyes
All these thoughts locked inside
Now you're the first to know"

It's his fault for ignoring all the problems the relationship had. She maybe yelled at him and was a bitch, but it made him realize how much he didn't want to be with her. He's been keeping these feelings forever and now he's letting them out, and she's the first to hear about it.

Alright alright. All of you are wrong.
It's NOT about a relationship or a girl AT ALL.

And I asked the lead singer--whatever his name is at a concert.

It's about a guy..he was in a car with and they didn't get along and he made him angry and mad so the song is about madness and intensity.

So..chyea. Just thought y'all should know.

BlackandWhite, watching PBS were ya?

But yeah, he told the crowd (you didn't ask if I remember right) that he was with a guy who was driving him crazy, so he wrote a song about it. Then he said you can take it as you want, and relate it to love.

the best thing about this song is that i'm from Stillwater, Oklahoma (where Tyson and Nick are from, actually Nick gave me guitar lessons for like two years), and riding around in my car at night listening to this song or walking through my high school halls I can picture Tyson doing the same thing and this song is just developing in his head, its so real.

This song is about a roommate the lead singer had who was always depressed and would go to bed early. And it started to rub off on him and he just wanted to smoother him with a pillow while he slept. So he wrote this song, but just vague enough that it could pass as something else.
Well... that's what the lead sing said today on TRL lol ^_^

I think this song is about a relationship that has been steadily weakening and both of them realize. He has a secret that he knows is the root of their problems and he decides to tell her which will most likely end their relationship. The secret is most likely cheating or something of that nature. When it says:

A weight is lifted on this evening
I give the final blow
When darkness turns to light
It ends tonight, it ends tonight

that's him finally saying it's done, that they have delayed the inevitable for as long as they possibly could and that tonight is the night to end it.

I agree with martinusgirl because this song is sad that their relationship is finally ending but at the same time it gives you a sense of completeness because you know it's for the best and that they were just living a lie. It's a great song. Very deep. AAR are really fantastic!

I loved the music video. I just saw it and I loved the great use of fireworks in the background and when it turns from dark to light.
