Lyrics for The Fantasy as interpreted by pressreset

The Fantasy Lyrics
With the lights out
It's a little less dangerous
Even with a stranger
Never gets painless
Don't be afraid
Every time I think I'm gonna change it
(Think I'm gonna change it x2)
It's driving me insane (It's driving me insane)
Yeah yeah yeah

Do you live?
Do you die?
Do you bleed?
For the fantasy
In your mind
Through your eyes
Do you see?
It's the fantasy
Oh

Maybe tonight we can forget about it all
(Forget about it all x2)
Ha ha
It could be just like heaven
I am a machine
No longer living
Just a shell of what I dream
Yeah yeah yeah

Do you live?
Do you die?
Do you bleed?
For the fantasy
In your mind
Through your eyes
Do you see?
It's the fantasy

Say you, say you, say that you believe
Say it, say it to me

Oh waooohh
Oh wa-ah-ah-ah
Oh waooohh
Oh wa-ah-ah-ah

Do you live?
Do you die?
Do you bleed?
For the fantasy
Automatic
I imagine
I believe

Ohhhhhh nothing you ever
All I said was to you a lie
Say it, say that I
Nothing you said

Do you live?
Do you die?
Do you bleed?
For the fantasy?

Do you live?
Do you die?
Do you bleed?
For the fantasy
In your mind
Through your eyes
Do you see?
It's the fantasy

Automatic
I imagine
I believe
(x2)

Automatic
I imagine
I believe
(Repeat 'til fade)

Say you, say you, say that you believe
Say it, say it to me
(Repeat 'til fade)

I believe
I believe
I believe

I think the song has to do with dreams. day dreams spicifically. How someone may lay in bed at night and carry themself off to a dream land were all their problems are gon, and how it can be so much better than your life that alll you can do through the day is impationtly wait for nightime to day dream again.

But i may be wrong

Unfortunately klefmix, we have a large atheist concentration here and all they think music is ever about is how there is no God. I don't care if you think it's Buddha, Allah, Jesus or if you're a pagan or w/e so long as you don't think there is no God or that you are him. At any rate, I think this is sort of an attack on the media and all of these ideas of how we as people are supposed to act and behave. There's all these people out there who would die just to be accepted when really it's all a fantasy and it's not truly the person that they want to be. That's what I think, but I really like the idea of forgetting your troubles in dreams too. It seems to heavy for a meaning like that though. But, songs are whatever they mean to you, so technically Kitsune is right in his own way. Tis a shame not enough people comment on this band though :( Oh well.

Ok, first of all, it's not "unfortunate" that there is a large atheist concentration here, and second of all we dont "all thing music is ever about is how there is no God." That's ridiculous. Personally, I agree with taninhawk that this song is about daydreaming and being able to retreat to a place in your own mind where your problems seem to slip away. However, as you say requiem, songs are whatever they mean to you, so kitsune, you are not a "f***ing moron"

i can see how all these points can go for this song, and i agree with ashlea songs are mean what ever you want them to mean. but a song liek this i dont think you will find the real point to it unless you ask jared himself.

This could be about a whole number of things...people tend to create fantasies about all sorts of stuff. Maybe this song isn't about any fantasy in particular. Probably my favorite 30 Seconds to Mars song...by the way, anyone notice "With the light out it's a little less dangerous" in the beginning of the song is the same line from Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"? Maybe Jared Leto is a fan or something.

Atheism is a fad? What do you call Christianity then?
And, Requiem89, so you accept every religion...but when it comes to atheism, its just wrong? That's ridiculous. Everyone has their own beleifs, and you need to be open to them.
And, oh yes, good, good song. I'm going to see 30 seconds to mars on july 12 along with my fave band June. Can't wait!

Its sad that religon has become a "Fad"...but moving on to the song...I see a combined meaning...like " the fantasy" can be diffrent for anyone. Such as god for some people...or the fantasy of being beautilfull in todays image. I think it can be manny diffrent things for anyone person...but what Jared had in mind....as in what is his Fantasy whos knows...only him...

Um...could you please explain to me the difference.
Because, not accepting you if you don't beleive in God means you do not accept Atheism.
And, please don't call me a fuckin moron. Grow up.

Atheists do not beleive in god.
dictionary.com:
atheist- One who disbelieves or denies the existence of a God, or supreme intelligent Being.

You may be thinking of agnostic:
One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.
One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism.

But, please, make sure you know about something before you argue with someone about it. You're just making yourself look like a complete moron, because obviously you have no idea what you're talking about.

um. what does the definition of atheism have to do with this song? argue on your own time.
to me, the song is saying that to most people, what they want to be real is always so much better than what is real, and they would do anything to make it real. religion, relationship, life itself. what the fantasy is doesnt matter.

You can't even accept fact? That's a bit pathetic. I have proven to you what atheism is, and still you do not accept it. Seriously, learn about something before you argue about it.
Oh, and its not just the dictionary that will tell you what atheism is. I'll give you a whole list of sites that will tell you exactly what it is. You cannnot dispel fact, simply because it has proven you wrong.

Prove me wrong now.
And, this is a public forum. Which means, I am allowed to argue if I so choose.

I have to say ... just me, or is there a lot of laughter in this song? Very mocking, methinks. I think Jared is an atheist, so it may well be about God or the lack of him, but I think it's more about society and life in general. The 'fantasy' is the world we perceive, I think.

Then again, I could be wrong.

I don't know if Jared Leto is an atheist. I was at the concert, and I swear he said something about God (in a praising way?) before he started this song. Of course, he could've just been saying it sarcastically. Or, ironically? I have no idea.
But, oh boy, it was a great concert.

Oh, and RaviE, I'm sorry I misunderstood what you were saying. Now I understand and there shall be no more arguing.
And, anyways, when I said it was a public forum, it wasn't to you, to someone else.

Hm. I guess I'm bad at this whole meaning thing, because it sounded like the fantasy was a dream (not like a night or day dream). Maybe like, a dream of something you want to be. A dream, like, a band?

"Do you live, do you die, do you bleed, for the fantasy?" To me this was like, what would you sacrifice for the fantasy.

But I'm usually wrong. :)

I agree with all of the ideas here, though. They make more sense than mine.
