Haircut Lyrics
This is more than a haircut I'm wearing on my head
I thought I'd dye it red but got it cut instead And maybe I could send you my long blond locks 'Cause you're always after something baby, something I'm not Chorus: I'm darker underneath I'm darker by far I'm as dark as hell You know who you are My eyes, I always, I wished they were green My skin is so damn brown with the sun it don't seem My fingernails, I should'a stuck them on The hair on my lip, I should'a waxed it off You know my lips could do with a little more pout The mole on my chin I could do without My cheek bones they never sat real high I'll get some bone put in, they can take it from my thigh Chorus So now when I make love, I make love to myself I don't got no disease and it's good for my health I got my hands in my pants, down my Calvin Kleins I don't need you no more baby, I can come every time Chorus So baby, don't you ever show your face here again To me or any of my friends 'Cause I'm glad I found out what you're all about When I finally fell down off my cloud When you went away you broke my heart You kept my Kerouac books and that old guitar Chorus I don't need to tell you You know what you are This is more than a haircut I'm wearing on my head I thought I'd dye it red but I got it cut off instead |

I love the Waifs' simplicity, and this song is a prime example.
I think that the song is about a woman try to show to her boyfriend (ex boyfriend) that there's actually more to her than what appears physically. The lyrics suggest that she can identify her own physical imperfections, see verses 2 and 3, but that she is tired with trying to be something that she's not for his favour. There are indications that she was completely and utterly in love with this man and was perhaps blinded by her love, for example
"'Cause I'm glad I found out what you're all about
When I finally fell down off my cloud".
but she seems relieved to find out the truth.
Pretty good song.
Also there is the refernce to influential writer Jack Kerouac!
