Lyrics for The Kill as interpreted by pressreset

The Kill Lyrics
What if I wanted to break
Laugh it all off in your face
What would you do
What if I fell to the floor
Couldn't take this anymore
What would you do do do

Come break me down
Bury me, bury me
I am finished with you

What if I wanted to fight
Beg for the rest of my life
What would you do (do do)
You say you wanted more
What are you waiting for
I'm not running from you

Come break me down
Bury me, bury me
I am finished with you

Look in my eyes
You're killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you

I tried to be someone else
But nothing seemed to change
I know now this is who I really am inside
Finally found myself
Fighting for a chance
I know now this is who I really am

Ohhh haaaa
Ohhh hoooo
Ohhh haaaa

Come break me down
Bury me, bury me
I am finished with you you you

Look in my eyes
You're killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you

Come break me down
Break me down
Break me down

(You say you wanted more)
What if I wanted to break
(What are you waiting for)
(Bury me, bury me)
(I'm not running from you)
What if I, What if I
What if I, What if I
(Bury me, bury me)

This song feels like Leto just had the REALLY short end of the stick in a relationship he felt very strongly about. I really love the feeling of it all. Another one of my favorites on this album. Do any guitar players out there just get REALLY inspired by this album?

this song is one of my favorite songs...because just like attack i can relate to this song too...i think this is about Leto and how he had a very good realtionship and he feels like he's trying to give this realtionship all his all but she's not doing her part like he's telling her that she can do whatever she wants say whatever she wants but he's done he cant do this to himself anymore..and when he says "look me in my eyes your killing me all i wanted was you" he's telling her look at me look at all ive tried to do for you ive tried to change ive tried to do so much but it just never was pleasing her or whatever..and he's saying he did all of that his changing himself trying to at least...he did it for her..yet still no satisfication.

This song is about a person's realization that they can not change to be what the other person wanted, no matter how hard they try to be that someone else...that their partner wanted. The person finds it easier to "break and laugh it off" than go through the gut wrenching changes that could have made for the type of relationship that they both envisioned in the beginning. (I'm referring to changes like too much drinking, too much flirting, lack of emotionally connecting...stuff like that). This person decides that he/she knows that this is how they are and they are not ready yet to move to a deeper level of love, it would be too much personal change for the one who has decided to "break" and take the easy way out...and not work on his/her problems that are disturbing to the relationship.
Does this make sense to anyone else?

Is it really necessary to include the sounds that Leto makes in between the third verse and the chorus? I mean, they're not part of the actual lyrics. Also, the -- OHHH!! part when the chorus is first played. These aren't part of the original poetry, so there's no reason to include them.

Also, the not being able to change himself idea makes sense to me raw1. :)

Well the impression I got from listening to the song and seeing the video for the first time is ... basically what raw1 said about the song.

I can see how what raw1 said would work–good job on that. But what I got from it was, maybe it is a part of himself that he's trying to change because he's unhappy with himself and it's killing him.
When he says
"I tried to be someone else
But nothing seemed to change
I know now this is who I really am inside
Falling from myself
Running for a chance
I know now this is who I really am."
he maybe getting discouraged, trying to change for the better or however he wants to change.
Then when he says
"Look in my eyes
You're killing me, killing me
All that I wanted was you."
he may be begging himself to change.
Then when he says
"Come break me down
Break me down
Break me down"
his hope might be completely gone and he has no more will to try. Also, i think the video shows this explanation, because each of the guys are looking at themselves. When Jared is singing "...This is who I really am," he is grabbing his cloan and screaming it in his face.

Oh well, that's just what i got from it (and I don't think i explained it clearly enough). Just about trying to fix yourself, or find yourself. Either way, it's a fucking awesome song. Kudos, Jared!

In My Opinion, I Believe This Song Is About Not Changing Who You Are For The Sake Of People, no Matter How Painful It May Be, Because You Are Not Going To Step Down To Their Level

when I first heard this song, it reminded me of an ex of mine... we went through a really confusing breakup and I dunno it was all just blah and stupid....
"What if I wanted to break
Laugh it all off in your face"
"You say you wanted more
What are you waiting for
I'm not running from you"
where they say they want something more serious, and yet whether you give it to them or not, its like they back away.
"Look in my eyes
You're killing me, killing me
All I wanted was you"
you try so hard to be what they want, and you think they're what you want, and yet it doesnt work out.
"I tried to be someone else
But nothing seemed to change
I know now this is who I really am inside"
you pretend and lie so much until you get to a breaking point and say 'screw it, thats not me, Im sick of faking it'

I love their "The Kill" video, especially when he's screaming at his other self at the climax of the song...Jared is my idol ( and he's hot). And the wide range of emotion he shows in his facial expressions amazes me. I love the overdramatic black sunglasses too....

Best line of the song: (That keeps echoing in my head)
I tried to be someone else
But nothing seemed to change
I know now
THIS IS WHO I REALLY AM

This line reminds me of myself and my transformation from nerdy outcast to gothic outcast. "I tried to be someone else" by changing my clothing style and trying to fit in ( poser, I know, I WAS a poser), "But nothing seemed to change"... I still didn't fit in.
"I know now this is who I really am"
I realized it didn't matter what "they " thought of me .I realized I am gothic, and would have turned that way anyway, because IT IS JUST WHO I AM, not who anyone else tells me to be. I don't listen to anyone, not even friends and family, when they tell me who to be. Because I know who I am, and I know when I am not being me. It seems like everyday is a fight just to be who I am, because some teachers hate me because I dress goth, most of my peers hate me, my parents worry about my nonstop and my whole family thinks I'm cutting, just because ofwho I am and how I chose to express myself. And I'm so sick of everyone ATTACKING me, Just let me be who I am, and let me say what I have to say, just to get it out..... And another thing this song reminds me of is the way people stare at me like I'm some sort of FREAK and they just stare, especially the prissy girls, they laugh and turn away, even if their boyfriends are emo/goth, I HATE THEM!!! And I know it's because I'm goth, because one day I spent the night at a friend's house and wore "nongoth" clothes the next day and got a guy's phone number and he called and wouldn't let me hang up. But you know what? I don't care if conforming to be like all of the preppy girls will make me popular or get me dates, because being goth IS WHO I REALLY AM !!!!!!!! FUCK EVERYTHING ELSE!!!!
Anyway, this song is about my LIFE that's all
I also see how it applies to a guy changing for a girl and he became"who he really was" again and she rejected him because he wasn't the way she wanted him to be. But that's not *exactly*my situation, although similar.

There should be more comments for this song. It's bad ass.

And yes, creepy "The Shining" reference in the music video.

THe video actually helps explain the meaning of the song [to me anyways..]

All the members see themselves throughout the hotel, but these people they are seeing are their alter egos. People who they dont want to be but they kind of transformed into. These other people they are seeing are the types of people who they turned into be, but they are trying to escape from being what others want them to be. Its kinda hard to explain if you have any ?'s just comment back. Ill try to make more senseof it later.

Jared is my hero. He's the only guy so far in this new wave of bands that can scream in a song without sounding like a dying cat.

I agree with the person above me. =]

Is anyone else as obsessed with this video as I am? It has all of P!ATD's "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" music video's classy dress without the godawful songm and I think it does really help explain the song, which is kinda hard to explain. I love it when the two Jared's scream "This is who I really am" at each other. I think that it is about crappling with alter egos and stuff...but, as I said, kind of hard to explain.

I love the music video though. Love it. 30 Seconds to Mars do NOT get enough recognition...which, I guess, is kinda cool. Jared Leto keeps his acting and singing careers seperate - he won't even play a gig if the club or whatever having the show premotes his band as having "Jared Leto the actor" in it or anything like that. In time's like this, where people like Lindsey Lohan are singing and acting and mixing them up and stuff, I think that's something to be admired.

I love how he sings and his facial expressions. I think this song and video or just awesome. =]

I agree with dweebtaco on the meaning of the video...or you could put it more simply its a take off of the Book the Shining not the Movie becasue the movie was no where near as meaningfull or intresting as the Book but ohh well...But Doesn anyone else think the Part with the guy in the bear suite and the bandmate is just a little weird?

I'd like Jared to father my children. Haha.

I love the music video so much! I must agree with everyone here, the 2 Jared's screaming at eachother is the best part. Oh, and Jared shaking his beautiful hair.

It is nice to know there are singers who can scream very well :)

Not to mention, Shannon has very pretty hands..
