I got my stitches stitched, I got my fixes fixed,
In my aching heads I got my kisses slipped.
Our gossip lips stuttered every word I said, I said,
I got your love letters, corrected the grammar and sent them back.
It's true, romance is dead, I shot it in the chest then in the head.

And if you wanna go down in history then I'm your friend,
Because they've got me in a band where I've never seen a heart I couldn't break.
It was never about the songs, it was competition,
Make the biggest scene, make the biggest

Which came first, the music or the misery?
We're high-fashioned, we're last chances.
Which came first, the music or the misery?
We're high-fashioned, we're last chances.

I'm casully-obsessed and I've forgiven death,
I am indifferent yet (I'm a total wreck),
I'm every cliche, but I simply do it best.

(Go!)

I went to sleep a poet, and I woke up a fraud,
To calm your nerves I'm feeling for my clothes in the dark.

Which came first, the music or the misery?
We're high-fashioned, we're last chances.

Which came first, the music or the misery?
We're high-fashioned, we're last chances.
Which came first, the music or the misery?
We're high-fashioned, we're last chances.

General Comment:This is one of my favourite songs and I’m pretty sure this is what it means:

got my stitches stitched, I got my fixes fixed,
I think this is referring to his suicide attempt and how he’s getting his fixes fixed aka with pills.

In my aching head, I got my kisses slit.
In his confused mind all his kisses never meant anything cause noone ever loved him

Our gossip lips stuttered every word I said, I said,
Basically a highschool type deal with gossip changing what you say

I got your love letters, corrected the grammar and sent them back.
It's true romance is dead, I shot it in the chest then in the head.
    Pretty self explanatory…..mocking and bitter

And if you wanna go down in history then I'm your prince,
Because they've got me in a bad way I've never seen a heart I couldn't break.
    - he was going though a bad time and he was breaking hearts because he was afraid to get too close to anyone

It was never about the songs, it was competition.
Make the biggest scene, make the biggest...
its about who can make the papers the quickest….noone cares about the music anymore

Which came first, the music or the misery?
    We're high-fashion, we're last chances.
Which came first, the music or the misery?
    We're high-fashion, we're last chances.
Again pretty self explanatory….he doesn’t know which came first because hes been listening to music his whole life but he’s also been miserable.
The high fashion refers to their unique style.

I'm casually obsessed and I've forgiven death,
He’s casually obsessed…obsessive but not to the point where it takes over and hes forgiven death for taking things away from him

I am indifferent, yet (I am a total wreck)
I'm every cliche, but I simply do it best.
He doesn’t care about whats going on yet it affects him too badly

I went to sleep a poet, and I woke up a fraud,
To calm your nerves I'm feeling for my clothes in the dark.
Poet…possibly like Casanova…he was the poet of sex, but pete is referring to one night stands where you wake up feeling like a fraud because this isn’t love…and he wants to get out as quickly as quietly as possible. Finding his clothes in the dark so they won’t wake up

This is my humble opinion on the song =]

General Comment:Okay well I guess I'm just going to totally disregard mybodyisacage's comment seeing as it is obvious he is a sad little prick who has nothing better to do with his time then actually take the time to look up bands he doesn't like and bash them. Yeah. Sad.

    Anyways...
I can't be sure, but I think that title comes from that movie "High Fidelty" (Salem31 mentioned it) where John Cusacks characters asks "Which came first, the music or the misery?" or something like that.
