Stars & Boulevards Lyrics
Wait, dear
White horses walking down my street here Your words are creeping at my feet I fear The sunrise will come too soon And you’ll disappear To the haze of the city and yourself Oh yeah Look out They’re coming after us with big guns They’re only gonna tell you all the bad things I’ve done Even if the words they say aren’t true, They’ve won Now I’m left here dying in the sun Woahhhhh… Seems like I’m always on my own Seems like I’m never coming home Seems like I’m always on my own All the stars and boulevards aren’t close enough to you Late nights Won’t do me justice ‘cause when I drink I Just get so damn depressed and it’s it’s not like I ain’t trying to get over you it’s just hard to look at all the seasons pass me over too and I said Woahhhhh… Seems like I’m always on my own Seems like I’m never coming home Seems like I’m always on my All the stars and boulevards aren’t close enough to you One last Phone call from you It wouldn’t hurt much Just like to hear your voice And pretend to touch Any inch of you that hasn’t said it all or read it all I sung my life away And I said Woahhhhh… Seems like I’m always on ym own Seems like I’m never coming home Seems like I’m always Woahhhhh… (all the stars & boulevards aren’t close enough to you) Seem like I’m all eyes on that home (all the stars and boulevards aren’t close enough to you) Seem like I’m never coming home Seem like I’m all eyes on that |

"Look out
They’re coming after us with big guns
They’re only gonna tell you all the bad things I’ve done
Even if the words they say aren’t true,
They’ve won
Now I’m left here dying in the sun",
i think these lines are talking about how people and enemies are chasing after a guy and his girl making up lies or twisting truths so that she leaves him, which she ultimately does, evident by the "they've won, now i'm left here dying in the sun."
Then, he talks about how he is moving on with these lines:
"Late nights
Won’t do me justice
‘cause when I drink I
Just get so damn depressed and it’s
it’s not like I ain’t trying to get over you
it’s just hard to look at all the seasons pass me over too"
The guy has been stuck on her, drinking and not sleeping, but he ultimately sees time wasting away (seasons) and decides he is sick of it and needs to move on.
The last unique stanza leaves me with the impression that he still needs some closure to finally move on, and also he wants to still be friends with the girl.
"One last
Phone call from you
It wouldn’t hurt much
Just like to hear your voice
And pretend to touch
Any inch of you that hasn’t said it all or read it all
I sung my life away"
He wants some closing words from her to know it's over, but he also is lovesick. The line "just like to pretend to touch any part of you that hasn't said it all or read it all," i believe he wants to find a fresh part of her that resembles her when they were together, but he realizes that he can only pretend, which is why he sings for relief.
As for the chorus, it still puzzles me. The title and repeated line "all the stars & boulevards aren't close enough to you" sounds to me like that guy in the song is lost (the reference to stars, like he is lost in space with no direction) and needs direction (boulevards) to her, whether it be a new girl or the old one. And by saying they aren't close enough to her, he could mean that he can't get far enough away from her, but also that he can't find his way back to her heart. The pieces of the chorus that say "I'm all eyes on that home, seem like i'm never coming home" maybe mean something like he sees what he wants, but he can't get it, for reasons i don't kno yet.
Sorry for typos, please tell me what you think

"And you’ll disappear
To the haze of the city and yourself"

seems like I'm always on my own
seems like I'm never coming home
seems like I'm always on my own
stars and boulevards ain't close enough for you
maybe a bit debatable just before "stars..." but I've seen a lot of "all eyes" and "alright" out on unofficial lyrics sites, and I'm going to disagree.
and I'm leaning more towards breezy's interpretation. I get a very serious vibe of a guy whose girl doesn't like his popularity, and how fame has destroyed their relationship. crazy-good song, for sure. love to blast it with the windows down.

Won’t do me justice
‘cause when I drink I
Just get so damn depressed and it’s
it’s not like I ain’t trying to get over you
This is really meaningful to me. Its like with me, I drink, even tho it does nothing but make me sad, and i only ever do it to replace that feeling of emptiness, to replace the sense of loss i feel.

White horses walking down my street here
Your words are creeping at my feet
I fear
The sunrise will come too soon
And you’ll disappear
To the haze of the city and yourself
Oh yeah
*I think this part is about probably a night with a lover. He's saying how perfect things are with the white horses, And he knows that as soon as the sun rises, she'll be out the door. It makes me think that maybe it's about a past relationship that was ended but they got back together for kind of a just one last fling.*
Look out
They’re coming after us with big guns
They’re only gonna tell you all the bad things I’ve done
Even if the words they say aren’t true,
They’ve won
Now I’m left here dying in the sun
* He knows she's going to leave because people have been saying what he's been supposedly doing. They've probably been telling this girl about how he's been cheating on her, which may or may not be true, but because she doesn't trust him, it doesn't even matter. She believes them and he knows that in the end he'll be left alone. *
Woahhhhh…
Seems like I’m always on my own
Seems like I’m never coming home
Seems like I’m always on my own
All the stars and boulevards aren’t close enough to you

Wait, dear
White horses walking down my street here
Your words are creeping at my feet
I fear
The sunrise will come too soon
And you’ll disappear
To the haze of the city and yourself
Oh yeah
-i think that means that she is leaving for hollywood or to become famous. but im still really confused on these lines so im not sure....
Look out
They’re coming after us with big guns
They’re only gonna tell you all the bad things I’ve done
Even if the words they say aren’t true,
They’ve won
Now I’m left here dying in the sun
-ok either after she left for hollywood they started making rumors about their relationships or their friends are starting shit to ruin their relationship when he says ''they won'' that means they won and now its over because of the tabloids\friend\whatever
Woahhhhh…
Seems like I’m always on my own
Seems like I’m never coming home
Seems like I’m always on my own
All the stars and boulevards aren’t close enough to you
-the only thing i came up with is like boluvard (sorry for spellinh arrors im just in a bit of a hurry) anywaays its like bolavard hollywood and the famous stars their...
Late nights
Won’t do me justice
‘cause when I drink I
Just get so damn depressed and it’s
it’s not like I ain’t trying to get over you
it’s just hard to look at all the seasons pass me over too
and I said
-he is tired of not getting over her sense their relationship is over and he is tired of drinking because he is so upset and the seasons (weeks day blah ..) keeps going on and he was still not over her
One last
Phone call from you
It wouldn’t hurt much
Just like to hear your voice
And pretend to touch
Any inch of you that hasn’t said it all or read it all
I sung my life away
And I said
-he wants to hear her voice one more time i guess or you know right after you brake up you want to see him\her one more time just to see how their doing...

Tell me what you think :]
1.
Wait, dear
White horses walking down my street here
Your words are creeping at my feet
I fear
The sunrise will come too soon
And you’ll disappear
To the haze of the city and yourself
Oh yeah
[The white horses that he is talking about symbolizes the "knight on a white horse" that is in any child's fairytale. "Your words are creeping at my feet" I think is saying how he can see these horses and knows what she wants (a perfect fairytale knight) but doesn't know how to grasp and put into actions how he feels for her. And, because of this unknowing, "The sunrise will come too soon" (In fairytales, the prince and princess gallop off together romantically in the sunset, but the sun rose too soon for him.) Because of this, this woman disappered to the haze of the city and yourself (she disappeared because she knew she could find better...what she really wanted)
The rest of the song I don't understand as well...but I think it's about him dealing with the realization that she left him for "all the stars and boulavards" trying to find the one that treated her right...when all along, he was there beside her.

It's
"... to the haze of the city and go south."
and the one poster before is right,
It is "All the stars and boulevards ain't close enough for you." Although I too heard it as "to" to begin with. I thought of it as that she was really attention hungry, that the stars and boulevard ( of L.A. perhaps?) didn't satisfy her need.

so when he says, "all the stars and boulevards ain't close enough to you" he means LA (where he is) isn't close enough to where she is....?
and "it’s not like I ain’t trying to get over you
it’s just hard to look at all the seasons pass me over too" makes me think that in this case time does not "heal all"...
?

I watched an interview with the lead singer and he said that he was sitting at his window all alone and saw literal white horses walking down the road that sparked him to write this song. the whole song said is basically about him being lonely while he was on the road...."Seems like I'm always on my own, seems like I'm never coming home". and as for the rest of the song, more specifically? here's what i think...it seems pretty obvious that its a break up song so i think his longing to be home is also his longing to be with his gf (this holly chick).
-Wait, dear
White horses walking down my street here
Your words are creeping at my feet
I fear
The sunrise will come too soon
And you’ll disappear
To the haze of the city and yourself
Oh yeah
This is obvisouly the same girl that wanted to go to Boston and get away from it all and as he's sitting there and dreading her departure he's thinking "all the stars and blvds. aren't close wnough for you" (all the celebrities and CA blvds)
-Look out
They’re coming after us with big guns
They’re only gonna tell you all the bad things I’ve done
Even if the words they say aren’t true,
They’ve won
Now I’m left here dying in the sun
Now he seems to be looking into the past to the route of their failed relationship. Much like most everyone else said someone started rumors or lies of some sort and the already stripped trust between the two of them has been left bare by this. So, "they've won" and he's once again left...alone.
-Late nights
Won’t do me justice
‘cause when I drink I
Just get so damn depressed and it’s
it’s not like I ain’t trying to get over you
it’s just hard to look at all the seasons pass me over too
and I said
It's been a awhile and he still can't seem to let her go so he drinks away his sleepless nights and thinks of her but as expected, the drinking only plumets him into further depression. Now he's just sick of watching the rest of the world pass him by too....once again, lonliness.
-One last
Phone call from you
It wouldn’t hurt much
Just like to hear your voice
And pretend to touch
Any inch of you that hasn’t said it all or read it all
I sung my life away
And I said
Lastly, he just wishes he had closure. He still thinks of her and longs for her but more than anything he misses what they had. He wishes they were like they used to be and she was like she used to be before she let her own insecurities and everyone else get to her(with teh rumors and such) , before she "sung his life away".
I love this song....i could listen to it and analyze it all day but i guess nobody will every really know but it's fun to guess.
