Inside out, upside down twisting beside myself
Stop that now
Because you and I were never meant to meet
I think you better leave
It's not safe in here
I feel a weakness coming on

Alright then (Alright then)
I could keep your number for a rainy day
That's where this ends
No mistakes, no misbehaving
Oh, I was doing so well
Could we just be friends?
I feel a weakness coming on

[Chorus]
It's not meant to be like this
Not what I planned at all
I don't want to feel like this, yeah
No, it's not meant to be like this
Not what I planned at all
I don't want to feel like this
So that makes it all your fault

Inside out, upside down twisting beside myself
Stop that now
you're as close as it gets without touching me
Don't make it harder than it already is
I feel a weakness coming on

[Chorus]

Big trouble
Losing control
Primary resistance at a critical low
On the, on the double gotta get a hold
Point of no return
One second to go

No response on any level
Red alert this vessel's under siege
Total overload
All systems down
They've got control
There's no way out
We are surrounded
Give in, give in
And relish every minute of it

Freeze
Or make it forever
I feel a weakness coming on

It's not meant to be like this
Not what I planned at all
I don't want to feel like this
No it's not meant to be like this
It's just what I don't need
Don't make me feel like this
It's definitly all your fault

Be like this
La la la la la la la la
It's all your fault
(Feel like this)
La la la la la la la la
It's all your fault
(Feel like this)
La la la la la la la la
It's all your fault
(Feel like this)
La la la la la la la la
It's all your fault

General Comment:I adore this song... It just perfectly describes the thoughts you have when you fall in love with someone you can't be with.

"No response on any level, red alert this vessels under siege,
Total overload, systems down, they've got control,
There's no way out, we are surrounded,
Give in, give in and relish every minute of it"

    Gives me chills. She's brilliant.

Song Comparison:I definitely think that this song is about not corresponding love. Maybe she is in a relationship already, but cannot control her feelings when she is around this other guy. Feeling responsible, she asks him to leave, although it may not be what she really wants.

She starts by describing herself when she is around this other guy:

"Inside out, upside-down twisting beside myself,
Stop that now, cos you and I were never meant to be"

Alright then (Alright then) I could keep your number for a rainy day,
That's where this ends, no mistakes no misbehaving,
Oh, I was doing so well, can we just be friends,
I feel a weakness coming on.

She tries to convince herself she can still be 'just friends' with him, although she knows she is in a time of weakness and should not be around him even as friends. "No mistakes, No misbehaving, Oh I was doing so well" can mean to me nothing else but that she was doing well in her relationship, and this guy comes in the picture and makes her want to forget she has a boyfriend. However she decides to behave, whether it is what she wants or not.

It's not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don't want to feel like this, Yeah,
No it's not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don't want to feel like this, so that makes it all your fault.

"I dont want to feel like this, so that makes it all your fault." Here she accepts she does have feelings towards this other guy, but does not like it, keeping in mind she has someone already. Its not meant to be like this, can mean she wasn't planning on having feelings for another guy while being in a relationship or she wanted this second guy to be her boyfriend, instead of the one she already has.

Inside out, upside-down twisting beside myself,
Stop that now; you're as close as it gets without touching me,
Oh no, don't make it harder than it already is,
Mmm, I feel a weakness coming on.

Again, "Don't make it harder than it already is".. He, unconsciously, makes it so hard for her to behave, and even though she knows she might not be spending time with him, she wants to.

    Big trouble losing control,
Primary resistance at a critical low,
On the double gotta get a hold,
Point of no return one second to go,

No response on any level, red alert this vessels under siege,
Total overload, systems down, they've got control,
There's no way out, we are surrounded,
Give in, give in and relish every minute of it

She describes her feelings with machinery, (perfectly done) describing how she cannot control it. Her weakness is too low, does not want to remind herself constantly she has a boyfriend. "Theres no way out, we are surrounded, give in, give in and relish every minute of it." She finally decides to give in, and well enjoy it.

Freeze, awake here forever, I feel a weakness coming on.

(...)Why make me feel like this, it's definitely all your fault.

What an incredible song and lyrics. Every Imogen Heap song is like this and continues to astonish me. The way she describes everything and how she puts it in a way every situation con relate to it. I just love her and all her perfect songs.

General Comment:For me, I think this song is about sex. A woman that has some feelings for someone she knows, feelings that she doesn't feel should be but she's starting to be unable to resist wanting to sleep with him - "it's not what I planned at all" and she "doesn't want to feel like this".

"Oh no, don't make it harder than it already is,
Mmm, I feel a weakness coming on."

General Comment:The song is called "The Walk." Obviously, it's about The Walk Of Shame, a.k.a. the horrible feeling you get when you have to leave someone's house the morning after you slept with them thinking it meant something to you when it meant nothing to them. It's not about a relationship.

General Comment:I have a very different
    feeling about this song
    than most.

While I was away at cheer camp,
a group performed a lyrical dance
to this song, and with the movements
this group was doing, this song
was a perfect replica of anorexia
or the fight of someone who is
    bulimic.

General Comment:I see this song as defining a break up, and a weakness in one's self to want to take the person back.

The title itself, "The Walk", I translate as that heart breaking post break up travel time when all of your regrets and should/would/could haves come flooding over you, and you hype yourself into believing that you just made the biggest mistake of your life.

Perspective wise, however, I would think that the singer is not the one doing the "walking", but has sent the ex on his or her way.

"I think you'd better leave, it's not safe in here. I feel a weakness coming on."

This line would suggest as much, as well as hinting at the feeling that mistakes have been made.

"No it's not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don't want to feel like this, so that makes it all your fault."

Again hinting that the singer has done the breaking up. I see these lines as the aftermath, the thoughts that run through your head after the other is gone. Blame, hurt, weakness, regret.

    "Big trouble losing control
primary resistance at a critical low
on the, on the double gotta get a hold
point of no return one second to go
    no response on any level
red alert this vessels under siege
total overload, all systems down they have got control
    theres no way out
    we are surrounded
    give in give in
and relish every minute of it. "

Not only my favourite part of the song, but the emotional centrepiece of the lyrical ensemble. Sung at a fast pace that suggests urgency, these lines are reminiscent of that critical time where you instantly miss the other person, and are begging yourself to surrender and let them back in at any cost.

This song is a strong, emotional roller coaster, and gives me chills every time I listen to it. Bravissimo Imogen, you've done it again.

Song Meaning:I'm pretty sure this has to do with a relationship. Her and her boyfriend broke up, and he keeps saying things like "atleast keep my number for a rainy day" and the fact that he still loves her hurts her

General Comment:Love this song! For me, it's about the singer falling in love with someone when she's not "supposed" to. Maybe one or both of them are in relationships already. They meet, not planning to have feelings for each other. But she starts developing feelings for him. He flirts with her (maybe harmlessly), but to her, this is dangerous because it just makes her want to cave in and get into a relationship with him. She just wants to give in to her infatuation and not think about the consequences. That giddy, exhilarating feeling you get when you first fall in love or become infatuated with someone is captured very well in this song. The singer has JUST fallen head over heels for this person, things have not really progressed yet, and everything is still at that stage of "what-if."

Maybe it's called "The Walk" because these two developed feelings for each other during a walk. Or maybe the singer is reminiscing about her feelings during a solitary walk.
