This song means to me that when youre being decieved you need to see what its doing to you. Its about seeing that youre being controlled by powers that you dont need to be. He says "remove from me this deception that i call love" he means that love is a deception when its misused, like with addiction, or with any kind of addiction. He says only through struggle have i found rest, he means that only through a battle of , sweat and tears can we succeed in beating the demons that lie deep inside the soul. He then says that with a piece of me taken away, sometimes that happens, you feel that because youre fighting your personal demons that you feel like you lose a piece of who you are. Its about being able to yell in the face of your demon and tell it no.

I think there is more than JUST being deceived about love. I think it is about how the world wants to take each individual and conform him into a robot with gears that turn to make emotions and assembled thoughts. Only through struggle are we able to break this mold and have the machine in our chest removed.

I believe this song is addressing humanity as a whole and not just Christians since we aren't the only ones that can fall into an almost robotic mold.

THis song is fucking awesome. I personally think the song is about defeating some great obsticale in your life and not letting ignorant people in you life, that only what to fuck up your life...my two cents...lol... As I Lay Dying ROCKS!!!

i totally understood the the meaning of this song when i could apply it too myself. i think it is jsut for times in your when nothing seems to go the right way. you often get used to the feeling of something missing or taken from you. i think the first line pretty much sums it up, and then you apply love to it.

Well alot of your comments do make sence, heres what i was thinking, i was thinking it was maybe about how through the struggles of life you will find your inner peace, and how if you give your self to the world it will just destroy you. and im sure it has religous meaning about how god/jesus can help you get through struggles of life too sence they are a christian band.

i think this song is about how only through a battle can u truly find that inner peace. being a Christian, i take it as, you have to fight for what is right, you will be tempted and you will struggle, but you can come out on top and have that peace. and also, "with a piece of me taken away", i believe means that you lose urself. as the Bible says to "Put off your old man and take up the new" dont quote me, and if u have the address of that please tell.
i also agree with the tell me wat true love is, which is unconditional and long suffering, as it says in 1 Corinthians 13. most of the other stuff u guys said is true i think also.

i think this song explains the illusion that plays in our mind when we talk about love. how ideal we want it to be, but it doesnt always happen in reality. real love isnt perfect, thas why he got dissappointed.

i anosa's opinion .as the clip shows an old man after dealing with too much trouble achieves a heart shaped material which feed his inner emptiness:lack of emotions,belief,....I think the title expresses the main message:this won't be available without struggle,moments of inner conflict and severe strife.As I Lay Dying is a great band with no doubt but i think they can still improve .

i think this song is about being in love with someone and when you go through struggles in your relationship you wish that you could take the love away because it hurts you.when you love someone it can cause you to go crazy when you go through problems.he's just saying "if i didn't love this person as much as i did i wouldn't feel this way.love controls your heart like it's a machine with gears and makes you do things you wouldn't necessarily do normally.

the big sum up is only through struggle can you understand how much you really love someone.you go through the bad times to get to the good times and if you can make it through and stick it out then that shows how much you love someone because you didn't up in leave when things got worse.
