Lyrics for Crosses as interpreted by ~just~a~dream~

Crosses Lyrics
Don't you know that I'll be around to guide you.
Through your weakest moments to leave them behind you.
Returning nightmares, only shadows.

We'll cast some light and you'll be alright.
We'll cast some light and you'll be alright for now.

Crosses all over, heavy on your shoulders.
The sirens inside me waiting to step forward.
Disturbing silence darkens your sight.

We'll cast some light and you'll be alright.
We'll cast some light and you'll be alright for now.

Crosses all over the boulevard.
Crosses all over the boulevard.
Crosses all over the boulevard.
Crosses all over the boulevard.

The streets outside your window overflooded.
People staring, they know you've been broken.
Repeatedly reminded by the looks on their faces.
Ignore them tonight and you'll be alright.

We'll cast some light and you'll be alright.

This song is truly beautiful it's sad melancholic melody haunts you long after the track runs off. The lyrics are poignant and parody the word Crosses to signify not only THE cross of Mr J himself but also as a burden that we call carry everyday, grief, stress anxiety. But it has a glimmer of hope in that to "cast some light and we'll be alright" again toying with the idea of Jesus casting the light upon us and so us as humans turning the light on others helping each other. Despite this song's profound interpretations is succeeds in its true goal...being a great song...

This song..wow. It's breathtaking. I don't know what it's about, but I'm supposing that it's about holding your head high. No matter what. I love it.

i agree with everyone else, its about burdens and the crosses are his representation of that. I think its also about how he desperately wants to help someone he loves with their burdens and troubles.

An amazing song, such a shame it was used on the OC. It's almost as you need to keep this beauty to yourself...

Beautiful song. Tethys you may be right, I dont know for sure, but I think of crosses just to represent burdens. It's not necessarily about Jesus. Either way, the music is just haunting...

so it was used on the OC, is that really the end of the world? It is a beautiful song and his vocals are so haunting yet sweet. He deserves the attention because he is such a great musician.

good song that tells me how to be a good imitation of Jesus to people. Sharing burdens.

I have listened to it a few more times since yesterday and instead of sharing burdens, it's become (to me) about the refrain 'cast some light and you'll be alright' when you have no idea what to do and how to help someone.

I get some relatively specific imagery from this song. "Crosses" and "boulevard", "sirens",...
"The streets outside your window overflooded.
People staring, they know you've been broken.
Repeatedly reminded by the looks on their faces."

This really sounds to me like Gonzales is alluding to a car crash, or an accident. Perhaps the repression of this imagery by the subject person. "Crosses", to me, suggest memorial of some sort--or a gravestone.

It seems that it would be rather unprincipled of Gonzales to abruptly digress from his overwhelmingly melancholy overtones in this album with a more upbeat song. Judging from the predominantly minor chord progression and near-wailing of Gonzales, this song really says lamentation to me.

This song was so simple, yet so clear with it's message. The simplicity of the message -- "Cast some light and you'll be alright."

To me, it just reminds me that it's a wound that will heal with time and a little interaction. When you don't know how to help someone, but you still do all that you can. And sometimes, the help that they need is just a little light -- all that you can give.

Cool text. I'm so bad at hearing what they sing. But to me Crosses is like the sound track to World of Warcraft. Listened to the track Heartbeats so many times, and this song is right after it in my playlist. It's a nice song, and the text is great. Like this band alot.

To be honest, I listened to this song for nearly a year without paying much attention to the lyrics. I had always assumed it had a religious connotation, what with it being about "crosses" and perhaps the name "Gonzalez" played into my perception as weel since Spanish and Mexican culture is heavily Catholic. But it dawned on me the other day, this song is about an accident scene.

If not an actual accident, then a metaphorical one. But the metaphor isn't painted as clearly as the imagery of the accident. The metaphor could be feeling "broken" from a number of things, it's not really made apparent. "We'll cast some light and it'll be all right." Metaphorically, to shed light on something is to make it clearer. In this scenario, it means ambulance/police lights.

Not the most straight-forward song, but definitely a good one.

BTW, if it wasn't self-evident in my interpretation, crosses mean ambulances. Ambulances usually have a red cross on them -- well, at least the old-fashioned ones did. I don't know if they do now. But the talk of "crosses on the boulevard" along with talk of sirens triggered that for me.

The guitar is so haunting... It just feels really dark and oppressive to me. Also, the line "We'll cast some light and you'll be alright." almost feels like an empty promise to me. The song is just harrowing.

The classical guitar is beautiful in this song, and his lyrics, although positive, are displayed in an almost dark and enclosing manor. When I listen to this song I imagine it as if a man is singing this song to his lover, or good friend, who is in need or having a tough time coping and he is reaching out to them. Overall, an amazing song.

definately my favourite song... i think its really all left to the very last line, where he sings "cast some light and you'll be alright" in the way he doesnt sing "for now"- the ecco of it in your mind really triggers the whole essence of the song. simple beautiful and haunting.

To me it doesn't seem to be that positive at all... "The sirens inside me waiting to step forward" and the way he sings "for now" after the refrain... whoevers burden he's trying to lighten, he seems to know it's only temporarily, almost as if it's merely false hope he can offer

I agree with the interpretation of an accident of some sort- but the "crosses" don't necessarily have to represent ambulances. Have you ever driven down a highway and seen crosses along the way- crosses marking where the accident has been? "Crosses all along the boulevard" could mean the memorial of a person killed in an accident-
I also get vibes that Gonzalez is somehow responsible for said accident, or at least was there to witness it: "Returning nightmares, only shadows." or "The sirens inside me waiting to step forward" And also that things are only all right "for now."
If not a car accident, I could see how this could be about another traumatic event- especially rape. The lyrics seem to hint at wanting to side-step the issue, or perhaps Gonzalez doesn't really know how to address it and instead tries to comfort her. My last interpretation makes more sense with the first couple of lines: "Don't you know that I'll be around to guide you. Through your weakest moments to leave them behind you."

I also think this song could be about a relationship- how he hurt someone, and he knows it and is haunted by it, but they don't address it. Instead they "cast some light and it'll be all right." But not all right forever- for now.

I feel this song is about war.. definitely. Surprised knowone else thinks so?? Anyone?

Crosses all over the boulevard (people shot down everywhere)

The streets outside your window overflooded (blood, wounded ppl)

People staring, they know you've been broken (shell shocked)

Repeatedly reminded by the looks on their faces (war strained)

Any takers?
