i don't really like this song.. haven't been too impressed by their new album, 'dark light'. reckon it's downhill from their older stuff, hearing it on t.v., parts of it remind me a lot of other bands.. which ruins it for me, i guess.

Hmm...
I don't dig HIM. I think it's condractory how they call themselves "love metal" but they do poppy vocals and soft, over-distorted riffs. I would appreciate it if anyone can tell me, what's there to like about them, 'cause I'm unable to find it.

For true metal with similar lyrical themes nad some great musical compositions, I suggest you people check out Type O Negative, now they kick major ass.
And if you're looking for depressive music... this if very far from depressive. Check out Sentenced and Eternal Tears of Sorrow instead.

well when i 1st heard this song i thought it was about using the girl just to not 2 be alone then when me and my gf started goin out i realized it was about a new love and the past loves memories continue 2 come up but he replaces them with new memories from his current love like surfryder said anyways this is 1 of the best songs on the album

This song isn't just about killing your feelings of an old love with a new love who gives you hugs and kisses.

This is what we all do after losing someone we love. (whether it was a lover or a relative or a friend) we feel the need to be loved. To not be alone.

This could be rebound love, or it could be about distracting depressed thoughts about the one that was lost by surrounding ones self with love and lust.

man i love HIM *lol i always laugh remembering the alternative meaning*..

i dunno you guys, i mean at first i thought it was about a new love but as i watched the video last night, which ROCKS!, i realized it was about using someone to "Kill loneliness". she did save him from loneliness but i see no pattern of love in the song, it's not like razorblade kiss and join me, it lacks something. the one he is talking about is just filler for his tomb like heart!! but that's my opinion anyways =p

yeah thats right Topknot28, Ville said that he was talking to Novak about his drug addiction and Novak said he did it because he lost his friends and family and he said it was his way of killing loneliness, hense where Ville got the idea and song title

I heard on loveline (when Ville was there) that this song was about a friend of his who was on drugs (a junkie perhaps) and the 'you' in the song was the drugs he used to 'kill his loneliness'

ok ppl killing loneliness isn't some like love song. seriously it isn't. i was listening to a interview with ville and he said that it's not a love song. it doesn't mean anything like that. he got the idea from his friend who was a druggy(or still is...not sure)and he asked why he does the drugs and his friend said b/c it's like the drugs are killing his loneliness. he also wrote it for a friend who commited suicide b/c of drugs(might have been the same guy...again not sure) so really it's not a love song. so yeah....that's what it's about. i love this song though it's one of my fav's on their new cd(altho i'm not happy w/the new one. i like their older stuff, but eh they're still my fav band)

Ville Valo said this on WDHA(NJ only) he said that he got the idea for killing lonliness from one of his freinds who was doing smack and that was his only way of living and this song meaning wasnt Originally for LOVE but for how people have there own way of Killing Lonliness

yesorno, none of HIM's songs have nething to do with bringing down God or lifting up satan like everyone usually thinks. when they use 666 its saying something about a breakup, not satan. Its easy to think that though, i understand, ive thought it many times. but valo said if he had to pick a religion he would b a christian. i dont think he would bring down God or nething neway. by the way this song is amazing.

I love it.
And the meaning of this song is really sad.
Ville's friend got addicted to smack and when he asked him why? He said "I'm killing loneliness."
