Lyrics for Boston as interpreted by helenrips

Boston Lyrics
In the light of the sun
Is there anyone?
Oh it has begun
Oh dear, you look so lost
Eyes are red and tears are shed
Some world you must have crossed

You said, You don’t know me
You don’t even care
Oh yeah
She said, you don’t know me
You don’t wear my chains
Oh yeah - yeah

The essential yet appealed
Carry all your thoughts cross an open field
When flowers gaze at you
They’re not the only ones
Who cry when they see you

You said, You don’t know me
You don’t even care
Oh yeah
She said, you don’t know me
You don’t wear my chains
Oh yeah

She said, I think I’m going to Boston
I think I’ll start a new life
I think I’ll start it over
No one knows my name
I’ll get out of California
I’m tired of the weather
I think I’ll get a lover
I’ll fly ‘em out to Spain

I think I’m going to Boston
I think that I’m just tired
I think I need a new town
To leave this all behind
I think I need a sunrise
I’m tired of the sunset
Here it’s nice in the summer
Some snow would be nice
Oh yeah

Boston
No one knows my name
Yeah
No one knows my name
No one knows my name…

Boston
No one knows my name

This is two person: The first part is the girl or wife saying ok the affair has started as he has been out all night and coming home the next mourning. The next part is proably the previous night they fought and he is reciting back to her, "she doesn't know him anymore, and she really don't care anymore". her part is then is she says to him speaking in the moment that he doesn't know her, and the part about the chains is he has broke her heart, and just don't even know. The next part is about him bringing home flowers...He has done alot of thinking on the way home she is saying to him, and he is saying to her about the flowers crying, he is sorry and feeling guilty. Then the part about them not knowing each other again. The next part is the girl saying, "I think I am going to leave you and go to Boston", oh yeah and she is going to get a lover, and fly him to spain... which this would be her dig into him. His final part is saying he is going to go to Boston where hopefully he and her can start over.

I have changed my mind on this one... It is about the popular musician and his girlfriend: The first part is her accusing of him being out all night or gone awile and that he has been with some one else, and his reply is ok, it has begun, and she has tormented her self all night with this foolish thinking. The next part is him saying to her that she don't know him, "thinking he would cheat on her". Her part is then her saying to him that he doesn't know her with the part about the chains referring to how much she loves him. As well this is kinda of arguing with The Oh Yea by him and the Yeah by her. The next part is him saying typical accusation as it neccessarry and the most appealing choice. Her reply about the flowers being his girl fans crying when they see him, and that she is emotional as well to see him. Then the Oh yeah part again. The next part is her saying she is tired of wandering where he is and who he is with so she will go to Boston and start a new life and have a lover etc. His part is he thinks he will go to Boston because he is tired of her and everything that is there in California, which California and Boston are refrences to life styles.

This song could be about unrequited love. Trying to leave California..representing the unchanging love for this one person. "You don't wear my chains" could mean like, you aren't as restrained as me, you don't know what it's like to be chained to one person for so long and not being able to be let free into places outside of California.

this song really gets to me. there are so many people i would like to say the chorus to, expecially over the last few days. "you dont know me, you dont even care, you dont know me, you dont wear my chains" .. i would like to leave and go to 'my own' boston. get away from this life. start over new. i love this song. it really means something to me

This song is really telling us that no matter how much you try to understand what a person is going through or how upsetting or painful a time has been for them, you will never actually know how it feels and maybe that in most cases the hurt person will try and run away from the situation and make up other excuses for running when the only excuse is that you don't want to wake up the next day with all the same worries and all the same people there trying to comfort you. So that's what i think and by the way this song is awsome i fell in luv with it the first time i heard it! great job augustana!

One little thing I find kind of interesting, and I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet. When he sings "Boston, where no one knows my name", it's sort of a nod to the old TV show "Cheers", which was set in Boston, and had as one of the lines in its theme song, "Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name". I don't know if it's an intentional reference, but if it is, very cleverly done.

There are so many posts for this song. I'm sure nobody will actually read this, but it's worth a try. I really think this can apply to any teenager's life. When there's unwanted high school drama and nagging parents ...you just want to get up and leave for a completely new place. A place where nobody knows your name and you can almost start over.

i know the girl who this song is about.
she's from southern california and she attends a college in boston, and from what i've heard from her, this song is about how she chose to move to boston after high school rather than stay in california and therefore she left him behind.

true story.

This song means so much to me...
I don't see it as a relationship, but if I'm wrong I don't mind, because I like the way I see it.
I see it as while life is happening, the world is turning, and things are growing, this girl is still lonely. She's had bad times and although people understand her she doesn't believe they even truly care. They'll never really know her.
She just has to run and leave it all behind her, try to start over.

I love this song so much. I believe it's about a girl who leaves her boyfriend for Boston (from California). That comparison is definitely extreme. Boston is gritty and Calfornia is glamorous. She's tired of facades and wants a real life. She's sick of always seeing life end, she wants it to begin.

I think he is singing about a girl who is in love with him and then says to him that he doesn't know her and he doesn't care so she is leaving. To Boston. Where she is starting over.

I think this song is singing about someone wants to leave everything behind and look for new life. She(cuz it kinda represents how I live recently, and I am a girl) wants to leave her lover who doesn't understand her pain, or the one who can't take her back.."You don't know me, and you don't wear my chains", I think it's the best sentence of the lyrics, that even your love ones sometimes cannot feel your pain cause they are not in your shoes.Good song, I love it when I heard it, and I could play this song too!

The whole song is summed up by the lyrics "I think I need a sunrise, I'm tired of the sunset."

These words are utterly perfect. You can on and on all day about wanting to move to a new place and giving up on a current situation, but the bottom line is the person in the song is just tired of things ending and going dark. They long to be able to watch things start anew, see the light come and be able to just start from the beginning.

I also know the girl who this song was written about. She went out with the drummer, and the drummer wrote the song. She moved from California to Boston, to go to a Christian school.

i love the line

I think I need a sunrise
I’m tired of the sunset

i don't know if he meant it as symbolism or not. But, i think it means he's tired of everything going down on him and he just wants one good thing to come along--like a sunrise. Do you think I'm right????

I really like this song. I think it's about someone who is leaving to go off to live the dreams they always had. Maybe they always dreamt of going there. Maybe the people that never got to know her was her family. Maybe now she's going off somewhere else where she can be free of their bullshit because she did the best she could and now it's time to show herself what she's made of. Maybe that was the plan all along. Then again, there are a bunch of really good schools in MA that aren't in Boston. Who knows?
