Lyrics for Boston as interpreted by helenrips

Boston Lyrics
In the light of the sun
Is there anyone?
Oh it has begun
Oh dear, you look so lost
Eyes are red and tears are shed
Some world you must have crossed

You said, You don’t know me
You don’t even care
Oh yeah
She said, you don’t know me
You don’t wear my chains
Oh yeah - yeah

The essential yet appealed
Carry all your thoughts cross an open field
When flowers gaze at you
They’re not the only ones
Who cry when they see you

You said, You don’t know me
You don’t even care
Oh yeah
She said, you don’t know me
You don’t wear my chains
Oh yeah

She said, I think I’m going to Boston
I think I’ll start a new life
I think I’ll start it over
No one knows my name
I’ll get out of California
I’m tired of the weather
I think I’ll get a lover
I’ll fly ‘em out to Spain

I think I’m going to Boston
I think that I’m just tired
I think I need a new town
To leave this all behind
I think I need a sunrise
I’m tired of the sunset
Here it’s nice in the summer
Some snow would be nice
Oh yeah

Boston
No one knows my name
Yeah
No one knows my name
No one knows my name…

Boston
No one knows my name

I dont like my life here. If everything goes well, Ill get out of this place (country) by the end of the summer. I applied to college in Boston, and that night I found this song on purevolume. I dont know, is it a sign? It fits so well its really scary.

"I think I need a sunrise

Here it’s nice in the summer
Some snow would be nice
Oh yeah
Boston
No one knows my name"

Obviously this lady has never been to Boston.

This is a song about finding a new beginning from an end, "I think I need a sunrise, I'm tired of the sunset". She is explaining to the other person, that he really doesn't know her, that he doesn't know her trials and errors in her life, "you don't wear my chains". I think this is ultimately about a relationship where one is just not intune with the other person, and never had been. I think everyone does have have their own "boston". Whether it is through music, travel, etc. It is some form of escape to try to find yourself and perhaps the others in your life.

hmm well i really don't think this song, as most seem to be, is actually about a relationship. it actually says "I think I’ll get a lover" so obviously, she/he doesn't have one in cali. it says "you don't wear my chains" because nobody where she is understands her, not necessarily her/his boy/girlfriend.

I also don't think they literally mean that they are living in cali. and moving to boston. by california, i think they're referring to how fake and seemingly perfect their life is then (like california) and by boston, they mean a total change, since boston is on the complete other side of the u.s. so they're changing they're LIFE, not really where they live. =)

This song, for some reason, hurts me when ever I listen to it.
I can't even listen to it with out wanting to cry.
It's so beautiful and lyrics are amazing..

This song perfectly reminds me of someone...

You may have already gotten sick of hearing this, but "Boston" is one of the most beautiful yet simplest song I've ever heard spewing out of this era.

I have turned over into a hard/classic rocker these days. Mainly because... well, c'mon! The 50's, 60's and up to the mid-70's were and are still the greatest era for music! And even though I have turned my back into searching and looking out for any band that may change the corporate music industry existing these days (it's all about money money money, where's the passion?) this song... always gets to me and touch my heart.

It taps into an emotion to many of us. And if you're not in the least bit touched by this song.. then you're a dumbass.

This song, what does is means to me. Well, forgive my babblings up there, but this is what the song means to me...

It means getting either sick and lost about one thing. There are times when you're so fed up and caught up in things, all you want to do is basically get out of this sticky situation. Thus, there enters "boston". Boston represents that place where we all wanted to be, our refugee.

Though the song lyrics are as simple as hell. I found the piano work and melody of this amazing. Just perfect for the mood. I'm actually looking for the radio edit (the version on the video)...

Sometimes people just need a change, people need a fresh page to start their life. To me this song is about love more than l'ennui quotidien. After having tunnel vision and getting stuck with limerance after limerance, moving to Boston is like starting over. It's a great song

This reminds me a lot of a person with anorexia/bulimia. For example:
Eyes are red and tears are shed
Some world you must have crossed
--
Crying, because of her disorder...
--
They’re not the only ones
Who cry when they see you
--
Because she's so skinny.
--
You said, You don’t know me
You don’t even care
--
She's saying someone can't care if they don't know her.
--
She said, you don’t know me
You don’t wear my chains
--
They don't really understand the pressure.

Anyways, I think she's going to Boston because she's sick of people taking pity on her because of her eating disorder.

pretty much everyone can relate on way or another, but everytime i hear this song, i cant help but think how compleatly relevant it is to my life right now.
im feeling so suffocated where i am (california) and i need to go somewhere where i can start over, "where no one knows my name" maybe even the literal boston.

but on the topic of the actual meaning, i think its more that the girl he broke up with is yelling at him, saying she cant stand being where she is. shes the one who needs to get away and he is just a witness.

I swear if you read the lyrics to the Counting Crows song "Walkaways" it's like they were both written at the same time or something. I like the line about being tired of the sunset and needing a sunrise. Boston is on the east coast of American where the sun rises and California is on the west where it sets.

i love this song, heard it one time and downloaded 8 other augustana songs...
to me, this song is basically about a guy and his ex girlfriend. he still loves her, but he caused her too much pain (Eyes are red and tears are shed
... You don’t know me You don’t even care)
so she broke up with him. he wants her to take him back, and she's tired of all th past memories, and wants to leave. she's probably sick of everyone who knew her and him as a couple, and "don't know her" as one person. she's tired of everything being the same - weather, sunset, noone knowing her - and just wants to start fresh with the past far behind her.

Everyone's said basically what this song is about-- leaving someone and someplace, starting over-- but what really struck me was the line about the flowers not being the only ones who cry when they see you-- I think it's a reference to the dew on flowers in the morning... kind of neat.

"where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came"
incase you forgot about that show.

Its about a girl who doesn't see that this guy loves her and cares deeply for her. She is in search for someone who loves her by moving away and starting over. What she doesn;t realize is that this guy does care about her and understands her, and it hurts him to see her go.

my mom doesnt know me, my whole family knows it, becuz she wont take time to listen, she wont listen to struggles of others, the whole day she curls up in her bed watching tv, while my dad works his azz off. my eyes are always red with tears. i have felt like cutting myself, i hate the continous weather here. and i hate my name cuz no one will listen to what i want to be called. i have always dreamed of a new place leaving things behind. you see, i have been in the same state all my life and have never stepped foot outside state borders
