Lyrics for Boston as interpreted by helenrips

Boston Lyrics
In the light of the sun
Is there anyone?
Oh it has begun
Oh dear, you look so lost
Eyes are red and tears are shed
Some world you must have crossed

You said, You don’t know me
You don’t even care
Oh yeah
She said, you don’t know me
You don’t wear my chains
Oh yeah - yeah

The essential yet appealed
Carry all your thoughts cross an open field
When flowers gaze at you
They’re not the only ones
Who cry when they see you

You said, You don’t know me
You don’t even care
Oh yeah
She said, you don’t know me
You don’t wear my chains
Oh yeah

She said, I think I’m going to Boston
I think I’ll start a new life
I think I’ll start it over
No one knows my name
I’ll get out of California
I’m tired of the weather
I think I’ll get a lover
I’ll fly ‘em out to Spain

I think I’m going to Boston
I think that I’m just tired
I think I need a new town
To leave this all behind
I think I need a sunrise
I’m tired of the sunset
Here it’s nice in the summer
Some snow would be nice
Oh yeah

Boston
No one knows my name
Yeah
No one knows my name
No one knows my name…

Boston
No one knows my name

i love the line "you don't know me and you don't wear my chains" it's a line that's really full of anger and resentment but it's sung so beautifully that it gives it a whole new meaning.

If you take this song in context of the other songs on the album (especially Sunday Best, which occurs later on in the record), this song then reflects the beginning of the break-up that happens between the singer and his girlfriend. She's got too much baggage lying around in California (maybe he's part of it), and wants to go across the country to start anew.

The feeling I get from this song is taht the singer wants to go with her, even though he still enjoys being on the west coast. But 5 songs later, in Sunday Best, she's already gone and he hasn't, and he's made his peace with the situation and sings about it.

I love this song; it makes me feel so many different emotions all at the same time. I love Augustana's lighter stuff!

I love this song. I really wish I could just pack up and leave my town. It's so boring and I'm ready for new people. People that don't even know my name.

This song is about two things.

This first starts out with a guy that loves a girl that seems to have gone through a lot. She is probably someone tormented that has a hard time opening up to him. She has a hard time expressing her feelings and can't handle someone loving her.

You said, You don’t know me
You don’t even care
...
She said, you don’t know me
You don’t wear my chains
...

After he realizes that the relationship is not going anywhere he also sees that he does not want to be where he is anymore. He feels that there is nothing for him there and he wants something new...

I think I need a sunrise
I’m tired of the sunset

So pretty much he wants a new beginning in Boston and he hopes that everything is better than what he had in Cali.

i LOVE THIS SONG. the piano music is also so beautiful and the whole some just fits together.
i like how augustana sing and write their songs: it's like a story with no beginning and no conclusion--it seems like it's a story taken out from the middle where the climax is and everything.
it's so prettty, especially the sunrise and sunset part and how the girl wants to get out of California. it's perfect.

Can anyway find the meaning in that part?
That part confuses me.

Ah I just wanna go to Boston... where no one knows my name

To me.. it seems like he's relaying a conversation... The very beginning - it's as if he's asking her if she's alright because she looks like she's been upset (crying, etc.) Then the rest of it is what she told him. That he doesn't know her and that he doesn't care - and that she's leaving. It's ironic in a way - because it's almost as if she's coming up with excuses, 'tried of the weather, i'm just tired, need a sunrise - tired of the sunset, some snow would be nice'.... But - if you pay attention to a couple parts - 'I think I'll get a lover,' and needing a new town 'leave this all behind.'

Anyways... that's my take on it.. Boston... I think everyone thinks of doing the same now & then...

So, I heard this song after an MTV show or something, I know that sounds horrible since I probably would never listen to this type of music, but the lyrics speak to my situation right now. I need to just get the fuck out. Some things just are the way they are and some people cant handle it.

anybody else pick up on the line "i think i need a sunrise, im tired of sunsets" having a double meaning. like metaphorically meaning a begining and not an end... but in california you always see sunsets on the beach...as opposed to the east coast, or in this case boston, which has sunrises on the beach
