In the light of the sun
Is there anyone?
Oh, it has begun

Oh, dear, you look so lost
Your eyes are red when tears are shed
The world you must have crossed, you said

You don't know me, you don't even care
Oh yeah, you said
You don't know me, and you don't wear my chains
Oh yeah

Essential yet appealed
Carry all your thoughts
Across an open field

When flowers gaze at you
They're not the only ones
Who cry when they see you
You said

You don't know me, and you don't even care
Oh yeah, you said
You don't know me, and you don't wear my chains
Oh yeah

She said, I think I'm going to Boston
I think I'll start a new life
I think I'll start it over
Where no one knows my name

I'll get out of California
I'm tired of the weather
I think I'll get a lover
I'll fly 'em out to Spain

I think I'll go to Boston
I think that I was tired
I think I need a new town
To leave this all behind

I think I need a sunrise
I'm tired of a sunset
Here it's nice in the summer
Some snow would be nice, oh yeah

You don't know me, and you don't even care
Oh yeah

Boston
Where no one knows my name
No one knows my name
No one knows my name

Boston
Where no one knows my name

General Comment:I remember using this as the backing track to my portfolio to get into University back in 2008 and staring at my interviewer the whole way through, mentally urging him to listen to the lyrics, as this was my only chance to start a fresh and I needed it so badly. The

'You don't know me, and you don't wear my chains

'She said, I think I'm going to Boston
    I think I'll start a new life
I think I'll start it over
Where no one knows my name'

rang so true as that's what I needed and what I did only my Boston was London.

As it turned out my interviewer for Uni was the course leader and he saw my desperation and potential and gave me a place - I didn't let him down. I graduated with the highest marks in the entire year and a first class degree.

My Interpretation:I feel like this song is about finally being able to leave (obviously).

I think maybe the one who wants to go to Boston had a very dependent or strict family and she couldn't leave. but all of a sudden that changed (death - "your eyes are red and tears are shed"). Which is why the line "you don't know me... you don't where my chains" fit well because maybe that person didn't tell people thats why they couldn't leave and now that they can all their friends are curious.

Another reason I think death is involved is the line "when flowers gaze at you, they're not the only ones who cry when they see you." This sounds like more family came over for a funeral (flowers) and they were also very sad, not just the one who the song is about and they may be acting self centered because they're so hurt.

A lot of times people who have strict upbringings or don't get to live life when they're teens like to go out and get their own life going. That's why I think the person wants to "start a new life.. where no one knows my name" so they can leave behind this sad and sheltered person.

Lastly the "i think I need a sunrise, I'm tired of the sunrise" could mean they feel they need the new start and something exciting to look forward to instead of feeling confined.

General Comment:I remember blasting this song in my friend's truck in 2006. Since then I have listened to it at so many times at life's turning points. I went 700 miles away for college than 7,000 miles to join the Peace Corps. I have learned, you can travel anywhere but if you want to change yourself then you have to change it directly. Running from the problem or a mere change in location is not a permanent solution, it may be a start though.

Boston is a interesting city to choose. Boston was founded by people escaping religious persecution. Boston, historically, was a place of refuge from problems elsewhere.

    Great song and music video.

My Interpretation:This song is about a girl, who wants a fresh start. I don't know if she had a bad reputation in her old town or whatever and was just sick of it all, for they are pretty brief on why she wants a new life. So anyway, she wants to get out of California and go to Boston, where no one knows her, and no one can have anything against her. She basically wants a new life where no one knows her past.

General Comment:Great song. Already explained 100x over. Please check my journal today; I need help figuring out a song title and band. There's a video link posted that has to do with the city of Boston in the 1960's. Thanx.

General Comment:I have been listening to this song for a long time and I just figured out what "essential yet appealed" means. It means that it is necessary, but still questioned because maybe the person is reluctant to do it.
