The version of this song i heard has different lyrics, but this song, for me, is hard to pick apart. I feel like it's a troubled relationship, where the death of their relationship is symbolized by the gun, and the bullet is the break up?

I agree this is a hard song to break down...but it's still one of my favs from the cd.

The way I see it is, he was infatuated (maybe to the point he might have thought he was in love) with this girl for probably only a brief time (probably met at a party hince the second verse). They had a one night stand (in his car apparently). The gun was a metaphor for the control she had over him, and the bullet in the head was basically her leaving and not contacting him again and him left by himself, or something like that.

I've always thought the bullets were metaphoric. Does it say anywhere that they may be literal? I don't know where all of this about a one night stand and a witness to girlfirend's suicide is coming from but hey, maybe i haven't looked into this much. I thought the song is tough to crack but in a nut shell about a love breaking his hard as suddenly and painfully as a bullet to his head. Maybe she broke the news to him in the car? and the rest of the song seem like a mixture of possibly good memories (Please take off your coat

This is my favorite of their older stuff. And after hearing the new CD, this really does sound different. A little darker I guess, and more instrumental maybe? Both old and new songs are fantastic, though!

This song for me is very easy to pick out.
I guess i looked at it in a more litteral sense.
Verse two he asks her to take off her coat, smile, come and dance, this may be because she is refusing to in the first place.
Her shaking with a gun in verse three probably means she's pretty scared, possibly because he's trying to take advantage of her in his car? maybe.
She finally pulls the trigger and kills the narrator.

So my synopsis is, the narrator is sex offender whom was shot in the head because he tried to take advatage/rape a girl he fell in "love" with at a party or event. That's just what i got in the literal sense.
