Lyrics for DOA as interpreted by EWizaCFT

DOA Lyrics
Oh you know I did it
It's over and I feel fine
Nothing you could say is gonna change my mind
Waiting and I wait at the longest night
Nothing like the taste to sweet decline

I was down, I fell, I fell so fast
Dropping like the grains in an hourglass
Never say forever cause nothing lasts
Dancing with the thorns of my buried past

Nevermind there's nothing I can do
Bet your life there's something killing you

It's a shame we have to die my dear
No ones getting out of here, alive
This time

What a way to go, they have no fear
No ones getting out of here, alive
This time

Finished, I'm getting you off my chest
Made you come clean in a dirty dress
A promise is a promise you kept in check
Heart across a heart that beats it's fist

Take a good hard look for the very last time
The very last one in a very long line
Only took a second to say goodbye
Been a pleasure but the pleasure's
been mine, all mine

Ain't no way, DOA
Ain't no way, DOA

It's a shame we have to disappear
No ones getting out of here, alive
This time
This time
This time

What a way to go, they have no fear. Talking about the ones that went before. Dead relationships. Dead and buried. Ours is next in line. We're both gonna lose a part of ourselves from this pity of a relationship. No one's getting out of here alive. Damn, I like the choice of words.

I haven't read all the interpretations of it, so don't get mad at me if what I said is already said.

I think it's about people who are born into this world basically dead because they have a useless boring life. And that you should do as much as you can in the amount of time you have so you don't end up being alive yet being dead personality-wise.

Umm...Correct me if i am wrong, but i believe he says "dancing with the bones of my buried past" not the thorns. Dancing with the bones is an english expression, and when i slowed it down it sounds more like bones not thorns. Doesnt change the meaning much, but it does in a way.

You can twist a song to make it mean whatever you want. I feel this one is about either death or a difficult breakup.

Hah, yeah, but I doubt that Grohl is a huge HP fan.

Whenever I hear this song, I always think of Sirius Black from the Harry Potter books.

"Take a good hard look for the very last time
The very last one in a very long line (Sirius was the last one in the the Black family line)
Only took a second to say goodbye (He disappeared instantly, with out any last words of parting)"

It's kind of freaky how you can find songs that relate to characters in books, but it's also pretty cool when you stumble upon a song and go "Wow, that's just like so-and-so in that book I read!"

No, I think the "nevermind" is just a coincidence. That said, the riff to this song is great. It's kind of ironic that a song about death lifts my mood, but this one does. This is the best song off of a great album, In Your Honor.

its funny but i always thought this was a look at life...We're born with the knowledge that we're gonna die (DOA - Dead on Arrival) and it only takes a second to say goodbye.
Also some minor references to the fact that some people are afraid of death or it gets them down.
I could be wrong.

Do you think the "Nevermind" is a reference to Nirvana?

Foo fighters are so under rated!! Dave Grohl could have easily ridden on the back of Nirvana's success but he went his own way and made his own creation with the foos. I love them so much for their individuality and this song is one of my faves.

The song actually makes more sense (including past/present tense and grammar) if you read the verses in reverse order.

It's a good song... but it took me forever to find out where he actually said DOA in the song. But it's still really awesome. Maybe my favorite Foo Fighters song.

I think this song relates to breaking up in a relationship. "No ones getting outta here alive" meaning nobody is surviving this situation. Either way, i love this song. Its exactly what Foo Fighter is all about. F-ing love it dude!

It may just be me, but I think this song is about losing your virginity. "It's over and I feel fine" "I looked down (listened to the wrong head) and I fell so fast." "I'm finished, I'm getting you off my chest," when you're a teen, you're very pressured to get the first time out of the way. Just my thoughts on the whole song

This song is really cool and so is the music video. I'm just wondering if anyone else notices these two things about the band memebers:

Dave Grohl, much like Steven Tyler, has an extremely large mouth. Whenever I see a picture of him or see this music video, I find myself mesmerized by his mouth. And his teeth. Whoa. How does he sing so well with those things?

The dummer, Taylor, (which is my name too which is really cool) looks a lot like Kurt Cobain, which is ironic.

Lol, sorry, just had to say that...anyway, I do like this song a lot and am glad Dave Grohl didn't stop at Nirvana and pulled together this band. He's way underrated, in my opinion. He can sing, play dums and guitar, and write and produce songs. He deserves more credit than he gets.

Okay, this is a bit wild but here's my thoughts on what this song is about...

'Oh you know you did it.
It's over and I feel fine.
Nothing you can say is gonna change my mind. Waiting and I wait at the longest night.
Nothing like the taste of sweet decline.'
He has been let down by his girlfriend so many times that he doesn't care anynmore and has decided to go down... And take his girlfriend down with him...

'I was down, I fell, I fell so fast.
Dropping like the grains in an hourglass.
Never say forever cause nothing lasts.
Dancing with the thorns of my buried past.'
He remembers all the times they've shared together.

'Nevermind there's nothing I can do
Bet your life there's something killing you

It's a shame we have to die my dear
No ones getting out of here, alive
This time

What a way to go, they have no fear
No ones getting out of here, alive
This time'
He tells her about this and kidnaps her or something and take her hostage.

'Finished, I'm getting you off my chest
Made you come clean in a dirty dress
A promise is a promise you kept in check
Heart across a heart that beats it's fist'
He tells her how much she's broken his heart and how bad she made him feel.

'Take a good hard look for the very last time
The very last one in a very long line
Only took a second to say goodbye
Been a pleasure but the pleasure's
been mine, all mine'
He's telling her to say her last words.

'Ain't no way, DOA
Ain't no way, DOA

It's a shame we have to disappear
No ones getting out of here, alive
This time
This time
This time'
That's where he kills himself and her too.

Sorry if this disturbs you a little bit but I honestly think that's what this song is about. The fact it's called D.O.A. supports my opinion I think.

I actually work in a hospital and the DOA patients are dreadful. Its nothing like the romantic, idealised idea the TFF give in the song, its a strange thing watching doctors trying to resus the patient, and listening to him moan as the O2 rushes past the larynx. other than that i have no criticism. i'm a new fan, and IYH was the first cd of TFF i bought. they rock, Dave Grohl is hot, but this isnt my fave song.
