    My Interpretation:I interpret this song quite differently. Though I do agree that this song is talking about breaking down someone's fantasy life or misconceptions. I believe its about someone who shares the Truth and now that person's view is changing or trying to hold the fragments of what they thought life was about.

    And you try so hard to fight the feelings you dwell on
    When all you should do is die to yourself

    These lyrics are meant to encourage that person to step out of their old life and into a new one. "die to yourself" simply means exactly what it states-just not literally. Pretty much that person needs to continually walk in his or her new life. Out with the old and in with the new.

    General Comment:i agree with fadedimpressions. the song basically describes a situation in which a group of people messed someone's life(painting) in some way. I believe they did soemthing to ake the taget a stereotype, maybe labeled them a nerd, maybe a stood-up date etc. Now they're apologizing and they have to let everything from the past go, and "DIE" to themselves so they can start anew.
