Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? I feel it inside Down in my soul And I just can't hide things That I know We could be friends And I promise that it won't get bad But hopefully that story ends But you ain't got nothing I never had So let's take it slow Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Someone must have loved you Not the way that I do You're missing what I'm trying to say Ain't nothing getting in my way So tell me that's fantastic And promise me, you'll always sigh I find it so romantic When you look into my beautiful eyes And lose control Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? Who let you go? I don't know What it means But I've been wondering Who let you go? And honey When you walk my way It makes me wanna say Ohh Sha-la-la-lo, sha-la-la-lo Sha-la-la-lo, sha-la-la-lo

General Comment:This is just the absolutely sweetest song.
It's perfect for when the person you like has been recently broken up with
The Killers and Brandon are so great at portraying the exact feelings that I have.

General Comment:The first time I heard this song I found it hilarious. I dont know if anybody else interpreted it like this the first time they listed to it, but for some reason I basically thought it was about a guy who was totally in love with a girl and wondering why someone would let her go but then when "she walked his way" or got closer to him he said ohhh as in now i see why they let you go. Of course I don't think this now just because I dont think they would write a song like that, but I thought I'd put my first interpretation out there.

Song Meaning:As previously stated, I believe that this song is about a guy who likes a girl but is wondering who let her go. The chorus supports it by asking who let her go, as she might seem wonderful and who would let that go?

General Comment:I agree the "ohhh" at the end is lustful. But I don't think it's about a psychopath.
I think it's about a girl that this guy likes, but he has to be careful with her because she was either raped or sexually abused in some way.
    Here are my interpretations:

    We could be friends
And I promise that it won't get bad
    But hopefully THIS story ends
WITH you ain't got nothing I never had
    So let's take it slow

[Obviously, he's telling her they can take it slow and start as friends, promising her he won't hurt her.
I think it should be "but hopefully this story ends, with you ain't got nothing I never had", and by that I think he means that he hopes eventually she will be comfortable enough with him to have sex]

    Someone must have loved you
Not the way that I do...
You're missing what I'm trying to say
Ain't nothing getting in my way

[Someone "loved" her by raping her or abusing her somehow, but he really loves her.
And then he's telling her it doesn't matter to him, he's sticking by her no matter what.]

I don't know what it means
    But I've been wondering
    Who let you go?

[Maybe he's not sure exactly what happened, just that someone hurt her in the past]

General Comment:I agree with fenderbender88 on his interpretation and would like to also offer an alternative idea...

This song could also been seen as a guy questioning why he let this person go. Who let you go? - as in why would anyone, even myself have let you go. I have a friend who's in a situation with a boy that is similar to this. they've been together for ever as "friends" and he just won't let her go and vice versa. they tried dating and he felt he couldnt commit, but he didn't want to be anything less than before. And then when she hooked up with some other guy her 'friend' got extremely jealous stricken. He can't let her go.... but doesn't want to commit...

    "We could be friends
And I promise that it won't get bad
    But hopefully that story ends

    Someone must have loved you
Not the way that I do...
You're missing what I'm trying to say
Ain't nothing getting in my way
But you ain't got nothing I never had
    So let's take it slow

    So tell me that's fantastic
And promise me, you'll always sigh
    I find it so romantic
When you look into my beautiful eyes
    And lose control "

General Comment:Well, I love this song, but I don't see anything sweet about it. I've noticed The Killers tend to have "story" songs, that aren't necessarily related to real life, and it seems to me this song is supposed to be sung by a clinical-definition psychopath.

The narrator seems egocentric, and clearly states that he does not know what what he's saying means. And that "ooohhhhhhh" sounds more lust-stricken than awe-stricken. *nods* *recommends Dr. Robert D. Hare's 'Without Conscience,' a good read for slightly paranoid nerds such as myself*

    General Comment:Fenderbender88, I couldn't have said it better. :)
This is a wicked song, surprises me how some Killer's songs get so many comments whereas some don't... or is that just me?
