Lyrics for Believe Me Natalie as interpreted by foldsbaldwin

Believe Me Natalie Lyrics
Believe me, Natalie
Listen Natalie
This is your last chance to find
A go-go dance to disco now
Please believe me, Natalie
Listen Natalie
This is your last chance to find
A go-go dance to disco now

Forget what they said in Soho
Leave the oh-no's out
And believe me, Natalie
Listen Natalie
This is your last chance

There is an old cliché
Under your Monet, baby
Remember the arch of roses
Right above your couch
Forget what they said in Soho
Leave the oh-no's out
Yes, there is an old cliche
Under your Monet, baby

You left the station nailed to the floor
With speculation, what was it for?
In that old hallway
Mom says why dont you stay
You've been away for a long time

Believe me, Natalie
This is your last chance
To find a go-go
Forget what they said in Soho
And walk away
If my dreams for us can't get you through
Just one more day
It's alright by me

God help me somehow
There's no time for survival left
The time is now...
Cause this might be your last chance
To disco, oh-oh

This is an amazing song, itself. It's beautifully written actually. The Killers mentioned in a magizene that "Natalie" is a studio-54 dancer who gets diagnosed with AIDS.

I love how The Killers have sad lyrics but their music still sounds so happy so you have to really think about it... I love this song, and after reading what pinup said, well, that just makes me sad.

Beautiful lyrics...

pinup77 is right - the arch of roses was an actual arch of roses in the club

Some of the lyrics at the top are wrong. I love the song. Dammit, why does it have to be about a girl with AIDS.

Why is it so terrible that the song is about a woman with AIDS? Thats life, you know. If it is infact about AIDS, instead of being unhappy about it, why dont you look at it as a song that is encouraging someone to use their time wisely and not let things slip away from them? Because that basically is what it is.

This song is, in a literal sense, about a girl with aids, but beyond that it is about everyone
At some point in their lives everyone is this girl, or at the very least, knows someone who is this girl

Natalie could be your best friend from high-school who isn't ever going to leave the crappy little town you both were born in.

Natalie could be a person you hardly knew who moved to a big city and realized he/she would rather be back home, but can't face the difficulties that would come with it

Natalie could be the girl you met and fell in love with but won't come out her shell and open herself up to you

Natalie could be a middle aged man stuck in a dead-end job as he watches the essence of his life slip thorugh the hand he once thought held a tight grip on his dreams

Natalie could be the person you constantly worry is slipping down the wrong path in life, and throwing away all their potential, even at a tender age

Natalie is everyone
Everyone has a no turning back point in their life, to do something, or to wilt
Everyone has massive potential and beauty, symbolized by the arch of roses above them
Everyone has friends, family, whomever telling them they can never do it, never change, never be something special
Everyone has someone too, who believes and dreams for them
And everyone must take advantage when ever they have achance to disco

This is probably my least favorite Killers song in terms of the music, but I do love the lyrics.

man futurfaildnovlist, you know your stuff...maybe you could explain the line "there is an old cliche under your monet"? because that's the only part i don't get...and this song is really excellent, but i really like everything by the killers. they're the best band i've ever heard! :)

The killers are top but they have a familiar sound so they have been pieced together by other bands' sounds. (Loveisblind)

Not their best song I agree musically but Brandon's voice makes it sound awesome.

loveisblind.....theres been lots of speculation as to what the "old cliche under your monet baby" means....One idea is that the people in Soho have told Natalie to go out to a garden to rest before she dies...and gardens have monet arches...so maybe she is the cliche under the arch because she's just waiting to die.....also....maybe the reason she go aids was from injecting drugs on the couch under the arch of roses at 54....drug use is a cliched way of getting Aids....there could be lots of things it could mean...thats the beauty of the killers.... : )

aparently this song is about the 80's and aids when every one was discoing and taking drugs and sharing needles and natalie ends up using some drugs with some one who has aids so she dies in the end...and the person who is singing the song before was trying to get her of the drugs now he is trying to comfort her while shes dying....I LOVE this song even if it's depressing...and these are brandons words not mine

This song makes me feel so sad.i'm always worrying about not being able to fulfill my dreams, and here we have a song about a girl who has one last chance at doing what she loves.I love this song soo much, from the lyrics to the music.Thankyou Brandon and the rest of the band for this beautiful piece of music. One of my favourites on the album, the others being Jenny and All These Things That I've Done

thanks for the clarification, guys...because it says "your" monet, i wouldn't think it was in a garden or a club, though...hmm, definitely fun to ponder, and i'd love to ask them and get a straight answer (which seems to be hard for the killers to do, when talking about lyrics...) lol well thanks again!

"Forget what they said in Soho", i already know that this people and soho told natalie to go away and rest but, what is soho? I know it is somewhere in new york, is studio 54 located in soho? is soho another disco? answer this please.

By the way, I think the lyrics up there are wrong, i would have sweard that the verse is:

"Mom says, why don't you stay
You've been away for a long time"

At the same time please clarify this line because I don´t understand them, what old hallway? mom? natalie´s mom? the singer´s mom? both?

The first time I heard this song I said to myself Damn, This song is a Smiths/Morrissey tribute song. The opening guitar riffs are definetely out of Johnny Marr's book. The lyrics are very much like alot of my favorite Smiths songs too. This song is tied with Jenny for favorite tracks on this CD. Anybody else hear some Smiths motivation??

Out of all the bands I've listened to I'd have to say that this is one of my top 3 favorite songs. On the album it is my favorite. Amazing how its about HIV and it sounds so happy, great poets.

im pretty sure that is actually "mom says, why dont you stay youve been away for a long time" because who says moses in a song and doesnt mom sound more possible, like you could actally picture a mother saying "please stay i havent seen you for so long" not moses please stay.

This is the most achingly beautiful song I've heard in a long time. It's epic. I love the lyrics, the music and the story. Truly amazing. It took them a month to get it right and I for one am so grateful that they took their time with it! They are gods to me now.

This song reminds me of Natalie Hershlag, perhaps because I'm slightly infatuated with her. To me the song emphasizes the necessity of living life to its fullest; I am told that the Natalie here is a person diagnosed with AIDS, so it would make sense that the singer is pleading with her to get out and enjoy life despite her condition. Although I'm probably wrong, the stanza about the old cliche, Monet, and arch of roses seems like a wall of photographs, perhaps a shot of Natalie at her wedding standing under an arch of roses (a wedding cliche) hanging underneath a Monet print. And yes, I too hear "Mom says" instead of "Moses"; it makes more sense although it might be wrong. I can imagine a good music video for this song; that alone shows that the song itself has enough content to evoke a whole story of images in my mind. This is by far my favorite song and one I enjoy listening to while falling asleep.
