Steal my heart and hold my tongue
I feel my time, my time has come
Let me in, unlock the door
I've never felt this way before
And the wheels just keep on turning
The drummer begins to drum
I don't know which way I'm going
I don't know which way I've come
Hold my head inside your hands
I need someone who understands
I need someone, someone who hears
For you, I've waited all these years
For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come
Until my day, my day is done
And say you'll come and set me free
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
In your tears and in your blood
In your fire and in your flood
I hear you laugh, I heard you sing
I wouldn't change a single thing
And the wheels just keep on turning
The drummers begin to drum
I don't know which way I'm going
I don't know what I'll become
For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come
Until my days, my days are done
And say you'll come and set me free
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
I feel my time, my time has come
Let me in, unlock the door
I've never felt this way before
And the wheels just keep on turning
The drummer begins to drum
I don't know which way I'm going
I don't know which way I've come
Hold my head inside your hands
I need someone who understands
I need someone, someone who hears
For you, I've waited all these years
For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come
Until my day, my day is done
And say you'll come and set me free
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
In your tears and in your blood
In your fire and in your flood
I hear you laugh, I heard you sing
I wouldn't change a single thing
And the wheels just keep on turning
The drummers begin to drum
I don't know which way I'm going
I don't know what I'll become
For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come
Until my days, my days are done
And say you'll come and set me free
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me

It is a story about a man, on the edge of his life. He is speaking to the woman who he has always loved. But the two of them just couldn't figure out how to be together. He is asking her for one last chance. Just one chance that he can be with her since he has always wished he could make it happen.
But as we all know, time flies by. And sometimes it seems that before you can even make a decision, that decision is already made for you through a series of events. So as he sits here, almost lifeless and begging for this last chance, he realizes, he may not make it. It's too late.
"I don't know which way I'm going" - What will happen after he dies
"I don't know which way I've come" - How he managed to never achieve the one thing he wanted.
He finally get's her attention and asks her for comfort. Because after all, she is the one. She knows him like none other and she can take care of him.
"I need someone who hears" - He needs the love he has always missed out on.
Then the chorus starts and he finally professes the love he has always had. He says that he would wait for her even if it meant that he had to go to heaven in order to be with her. And that he would go all the way until his dying breath just waiting for the chance to be with her and nobody else, even though he didn't even know if there is a heaven. This guy literally has no clue what will happen after he is dead, yet he is still saving himself for her.
He begs her to please make sure that she makes it where he is after she dies to set him free from this prison he has been in his entire life, just waiting to be with her.
And he finishes the chorus off with the most beautiful line - "just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me." In other words, save herself for this after life reunion.
The riff on the guitar signifies that he finally passes and moves on to heaven.
This next verse is him watching her from heaven. He watches everything that she does, in sadness (tears), in distress (blood), in anger (fire), and even when she breaks down (flood). He hears her laugh and sing. Then verifies that there isn't anything that he saw through any of that, that makes him change his mind about loving her.
The pre-chorus comes back and he basically fast forwards time again (wheels keep on turning) and she is nearing the end of her life. He says that he doesn't know where he is going, in other words, what will happen after she dies, and he verifies that he has passed by saying "I don't know what I've become"
The chorus repeats and he just begs and begs hoping that this one dream will finally come true. The repeats at the end show that this is all he cares about. She is about to die, and he hopes this works.
The rest is just your imagination.
"Steal my heart and hold my tongue
I feel my time, my time has come
Let me in, unlock the door
I've never felt this way before"
This sounds like its about letting someone in, romantically into your heart, as well as sexually. But at the same time, it sounds like a man dying, and coming into Heaven.
"Hold my head inside your hands
I need someone who understands
I need someone, someone who hears
For you, I've waited all these years" Could be talking about the perfect woman... but also could be talking about meeting God in heaven.
"In your tears and in your blood
In your fire and in your flood
I hear you laugh, I heard you sing
I wouldn't change a single thing"
If its a woman, it's just talking about all the things she goes through and its all bliss to him. If it's the Christianity take, it could be very literal. In your tears and in your blood, Christ's passion, in your fire and in your flood, old testament anyone?
"For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come
Until my days, my days are done
And say you'll come and set me free
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me"
Either telling his woman he'll wait for her forever (like maybe a guy in prison?) Or just expressing how undying his love is... Or for the Christian message interpretation, he's talking about purgatory or earth or whatever it is...
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me
"I don't know which way I'm going, I don't know what I'll become" He doesn't know what will happen to him when he dies. (that's why there are drums)
"And say you'll come and set me free, Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me"
Wonderful lines. He doesn't care he is dying. He only hopes is that his love will be there after it happens, because she is already dead that's why "For you, I've waited all these years, For you I'd wait 'til kingdom come" Really powerful lines to finish the chorus.
"In your tears and in your blood
In your fire and in your flood
I hear you laugh, I heard you sing
I wouldn't change a single thing"
It's like his life flashing before his eyes as he dies and remembers all about his love or his thoughts during the years he is waiting for her.
P.S.: I'm talking about a man waiting for a woman but the song can be seen from both perspectives.
It is about two lovers finally admitting they've finally fallen for one another and letting what they have grow. The timing never being right, waiting for each other... Knowing it is there but never allowing it to flourish. They've been through a lot, tears, blood, fire, laughter.... What they have started as a friendship and grew into love... The wheels of thought of love constantly churned.....Needing someone who understands, who hears and waiting many many years to finally allow what they have just be what it is... Love.
sometimes it's
about God for
me and others
for that certian
guy...
I'll wait...
