Lyrics for Andy, You're a Star as interpreted by Linger:

Andy, You're a Star Lyrics
On the field I remember you were incredible
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
On the field I remember you were incredible
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
On the match with the boys, you think you're alone
With the pain that you drain from love
In a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world
'Cause Andy, you're a star

Leave your number on the locker and I'll give you a call
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
Leave your legacy in gold on the plaques that line the hall
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah

On the streets, such a sweet face jumping in town
In the staff when the verdict is in
In a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world
Cause Andy, you're a star
In nobody's eyes but mine
Andy, you're a star
In nobody's eyes but mine
Andy, you're a star
In nobody's eyes
In nobody's eyes but mine

The Killers suck. Everyone, go fall in a fallout boy pit. I hate you all.

To the people saying Brandon Flowers can't be bi because he's married, that's ridiculous. Bi people are usually monogamous and are attracted to men and women. Take, for example, Billie Joe Armstrong, who is openly bisexual and is married to a woman and has kids.

Loads of 'straight' people have same-sex crushes as teenagers at highschool, so I reckon that if Brandon isn't actually bisexual then he just had a crush on this boy at school.
I think the "hey shut up" may be the boy with the crush talking to himself - because it's a bit scary to suddenly find yourself attracted to another guy , so he's like trying to switch his feelings off/telling them to "shut up" because they're scaring him.

when i first lisnened to this son i was wondering if he was in fact, well. . .gay. it kinda seemed that way at first but then after reading these posts i see that it can have some different meanings, i love this song but was really questioning its meanings.

well, i dont really think he is a "stalker" but he jusy really looked up to this guy. Maybe "in a car with a girl, promise me shes not your world" might mean that maybe he likes the girl too (???) Just a guess. . .

This debate will probably go on forever, but I think it is a song almost definitely about a stalker. It doesn't necissarily have to be about Brandon Flowers himself (I don't know/really even care if Brandon is Bi or not). But If you really think about it, the other songs on the album are about jealousy and murder and all that kinda stuff so I don't think it's too crazy to say this song is about a guy stalking another guy.

Lots of people have been anylizing the "in a car with a girl, promise me shes not your world" line. What it means to mE is that the stalker sees Andy with a girl and is jealous/afraid that Andy may already be in love with this girl, thus giving the stalker little chance of becoming part of Andy's life.

Anyway... that's what I think.

I read a newspape article in the Times (in the UK) and he said it was about a gay crush he had at college (I know how he feels) but he won't admit it in an American interview because gays aren't as well revered there BUT I REFUSE TO BEND OVER FOR ANYONE

i was at a killers concert back in october at jones beach here in new york, and before playing the song brandon said something along the lines "we wrote this next song about someone who was very special to all of us in the band"

I havent done any major research into the issue, but I'm pretty sure he's singing "On the MATS with the boys" which leads in part to the earlier suggestion of this line being about wrestling, but also lends to the theory that Andy is gay, or at least the singer thinks he is. I think the singer believes he could have a relationship with andy but whenever he tries to do anything aobut it, andy just brushes him off for fear of being labelled, hence "hey shut up, etc". But in secret ... something might be happening... I also agree with the theory that the singer is jealous of the girl in andy's car whether or not the singer and andy are having a relationship, but i think that andy's little hetero forays are either denial or a coverup... just my opinion (this is really cool commenting on songs like this and reading all the different responses, kind like poetry analysis but fun!)

Actually, this song can be related to the psycho-social implications of sexual ambiguity. One could assume that in such case; the Jungian model of self perception was not fully appearant at this time. Brandon is speaking of a football player he had a crush on in high school. As for him being Bisexual, Homosexual, Hetero, or Asexual; I wouldn't trust a media source. I believe that this experience happened at a point in his life when he was unsure about his sexuality and was exploring new options. Flowers is now married actually; but who knows..

Well, there's something to consider. This song could also be about a paedophile teacher, or the guy's dad who works at the school, but I doubt it. Andy is obviously not a girl. No girl does a lot of sport with boys. And it's a lot less likely for a girl to be in the car with another girl.
Something else to consider: although Brandon Flowers does not publically identify as gay, he and his band indulge in a lot of homoerotic play onstage, and his first gig was in a gay club.
It could be that he is bisexual

Hmmm, yeah sure seth, like you really know the andy brandon is talking about. I really believe that.. So did you go to high school with them in vegas or did you strike up a friendship with him afterwards?

PS andy is a friend of brandon's from high school, and no, he is def not gay but believe what you want.

Coming from someone who is gay...

I realize all the speculation about brandons sexuality, but I find it funny that he writes songs percieved to be about a gay boy, stalking, murder etc and so many assume it makes him gay as being autobiographical, but no one assumes he's a stalker or murderer because of it.

frankly, aside from his obvious hotness, his songs would make me a little scared to date him lol. Or at least break up with him. Creepy!

I didn't bother reading all the responses to this song, but I used to think this song might be about a guy who's got some kind of crush on another popular guy in high school. I think I was trying to over analyze this. Now I believe that Brandon Flowers is just singing the song from a woman's point of view and this song is like a letter that she wrote. She has a big crush on a guy, and thats why there's the part about "in a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world."- I think she's jealous cuz she wants to be that girl. Maybe she's friends with the guy or maybe she's just an admirer from a distance. Just a thought

This song is NOT about a flaming stalker!!! It's apparently about Brandon having a crush on this guy in the year above called Andy in high school. And it certainly is NOT about an athlete! Ffs! Open your minds! Ever heard the expression "playing the fields"??? Thats what he means. "In the fields i remember you were incredible".... ie. With the girls i remember your were incredible. As in, he got around a lot... and then when he sings "in the match with the boys you think your alone" It means that this guy Andy was unaware of any boys liking him in that way because he wasnt gay... when he says "in a car with a girl, promise me shes not your world" hes saying inwardly to Andy to promise him that hes not so in love with this girl that hes not looking at anyone else or that hes not ever gonna swing the other way.... IT IS NOT ABOUT A FLAMING ATHLETE!

i think its about a stalker too. but its about a sports person and this guy has taken the obsession too far. also could "promis me shes not your world" mean that he doesnt want this guys sporting career to be over. and maybe no one else see's this boys talent apart from the stalker.

I think I heard somewhere that he wrote it about a guy in high school who used to make fun of him and call him gay. Th guy was a jerk and was so full of himself, he thought a lot of people, even boys (including Flowers) liked him. Not a lot of people really did though, so Flowers wrote this song in a sarcastic sort of way, saying oh yes, leave you're number on the locker and I'll give it a call... but really he was a star in no one elses eyes...
