Lyrics for Andy, You're a Star as interpreted by Linger:

Andy, You're a Star Lyrics
On the field I remember you were incredible
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
On the field I remember you were incredible
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
On the match with the boys, you think you're alone
With the pain that you drain from love
In a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world
'Cause Andy, you're a star

Leave your number on the locker and I'll give you a call
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah
Leave your legacy in gold on the plaques that line the hall
Hey shut up, hey shut up, yeah

On the streets, such a sweet face jumping in town
In the staff when the verdict is in
In a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world
Cause Andy, you're a star
In nobody's eyes but mine
Andy, you're a star
In nobody's eyes but mine
Andy, you're a star
In nobody's eyes
In nobody's eyes but mine

Brandon Flowers gay, if we chicks loose another guy like him to the guys we'll die!

I agree with the stalker thing and if he said it then that's in. But why do you write a song about a stalker unless you've been through it or can't think of anything to write about...I hope that doesn't sound ignorant.

Yeah anyway Flowers is married dammit.

To me it sounds like this:
"Brandon" was in high school and he probably wasn't too cool or popular and the big football star was probably really nice to him one day. Making "bandon" believe they were now the best of friends.

The shut up may have come at a later point in time when Andy, the football player (maybe not football), could no longer take him following him everywhere.

Obviously "Brandon" is stalking him, and I believe that hte reason he says don't tell me she's your world is that he doesn't think she's good enough for his hero.

that's just my two cents anyway

I can't believe he got married...on my BIRTHDAY as well thats just shitty anywayz great song....a gay crush i think the guy andy made brandon feel good about himself or completemented him once and because brandon is self-concious and a girlie-boy (he is...no one can argue with that e.g make-up, love for hand-lotion and designers) he sort of got this man crush cause he did have a girlfriend to crush on.

I like bono_212's view on this. I agree that the narrator is a stalker in this song, but not an intentional one. He admired Andy, and perhaps he and Andy were acquaintances, but the narrator thought they were way closer.
The line "In a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world" is undoubtedly from jealousy, perhaps with wanting Andy to spend more time with him.
Personally, when I hear this one, I always think of Andy from the Breakfast Club. *shrug*

Ok, for the record Brandon Flowers is married. To a woman. And he has said he is 100% straight. Even so...I have a hard time believing him. Not that it matters, or makes him any less of a man, I just though I'd clarify that.

Interesting link: http://www.junk-mag.com/words/reviews.htm under Are The Killers Gayer Than Fitness Fridays?
Some of it's a little far-fetched, but thought provoking nonetheless.

I always assumed it was Andy talking to himself. Andy used to be a great athelte in high school but years have passed him by and now he's depressed with only his past to look back on. So he thinks about how he used (key work, used) to be a star and tells himself to shut up because he doesn't want to believe his glory days are over. Also, the fact that he's a star to nobody but himself because he's no longer surrounded by people who knew he used to have any potential.
The part about the girl could be in his recent life and he doesn't want her, and what his life has become, to be his world. As in, he doesn't want to settle.

i'd never actually thought about it as being about a gay stalker, i had always thought this was from the perspective of a college tallent scout, watching this kid, Andy, play football. He watches Andy, and realises how much potential he really has, but then he see's Andy off the field as well, and realises he might not have what it takes to become professional - he's partying instead. he also see's the Andy could possibly be getting some random pregnant, and he thinks its a massive waste of tallent, because Andy wouldnt be able to take football seriously if that did happen.

First Off as megananne137 said,Brandon is engaged to a WOMAN.He is not at all gay or bi, i could never imagine that. The line"In a car with a girl, promise me she's not your world
'Cause Andy, you're a star" to me, means that the charactor brandon is playing hopes the girl is not his world because he believes Andy can do better things in his life then if he were to decide to settle down with this girl and say get married or something.brandons charactor doesnt want him to do that because he feels Andy is a star and could take the path of showing the world how good he is at what seems to be an athletic talent, rather then giving that up for some girl. That's just what i thought about that line which most people saw as a homosexual reference.BRANDON CANT BE GAY OR BI!!

I love FiveCentBottle's interpretation.

I have to say, to no one in particular, you can have a crush on the same gender WITHOUT actually being bisexual or homosexual. Some people aren't willing to admit it, but most of us do have crushes on the same sex at some point. Brandon is just one of the people willing to admit it.

i went on the website suggested by Kia. I have to say i disagree with the writer says, because it something i cant conceptualize to be true.the writer gives us the idea that the whole album is about Andy and the narrator, which would be Brandon.it says how each of the songs are a continuing story of Brandon and Andy's relationship..each song is about them too rather then Brandon and a woman. It also says that Jenny was not a cheating girlfriend of the narrators but she was Andy's girlfriend and both Andy and the narrator participate in her murder.I wouldn't think a married man(he wasnt married when the album was written but i believe he was still going out with what is now his wife)would make himself seem as if he were gay through the whole album, and Brandon has said he is 100% straight.why people think they're gay i really don't know.if its because of what they wear..designer clothes, well thats their style so excuse them..if its because they tend to wear obvious makeup in their videos..well most bands do..(uh..Green Day for example?) these are a couple of reasons people have said they are "girly" guys..i completly disagree.

Brandon himself said that he was writing this song in a mans perspective..but it wasnt necissarily his. he writes his music to be other peoples storys for them to interpret for themself.he is not anyway gay or bi.it makes me mad when people say that..cus even if it were true i'd probably refuse to believe it.either way he is married so that tells everyone who thought he was gay or bi that no he isnt and u should stop thinking that.i think hes trying to relate to a lot of different people in his music..and theres nothing wrong with that.

I love this song. In my opinion, I think it's about a gay guy who's still kinda nervous about his sexuality and he's totally obsessed with this football player, who's straight. I think the ''hey shut up'' bit is the player telling him to shut up, because it's creeping him out. Pretty strange song, this.

I think it's a really big stretch for that "Junk" article to claim that every song on Hot Fuss is connected. I'm not one to hold back on what people think songs mean, a song means something different to each listener, but I also think that we should at least acknowledge the artists' intentions.

The Killers claim that the only two tracks on Hot Fuss that are related to one another are "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine" and "Midnight Show." While numerous other songs share the same theme (jealousy, for example), that doesn't mean each song relates to one another. It usually takes a band several albums before they become pretentious enough for a concept album, anyway.

Take "Believe Me Natalie." The Killers' site says it's about Studio 54 and AIDS victims. "On Top" is referring to how they felt with their success.

It does sound to me like a story about obsession, with all the evidence given so far. It does seem like Brandon Flowers is rather self-righteous and not too bothered by what people think of his sexuality, in that he's totally secure, but it could just as easily have something to do with the songs about his insecurities.

All in all, I think it's a story about sexual confusion, with the narrator obsessed with Andy and his own thoughts telling him to shut up, to not think those things or feel what he feels. Things like the locker, the sweet face, the girl in the car... it's all kind of solid.

Hey, has anyone considered that it could be written from the perspective of a younger brother? You know? Like in admiration of his older brother? The little brother watches Andy preform as an athlete and sees his "legacy in gold on the plaques that line the hall" and wants to be just like him. But Andy, the typical older brother is interested in other stuff, his games, girls, going out. I'm not saying Brandon Flowers is the little brother, but maybe it was written from a younger brothers prospective. Any thoughts on that?

this song coule mean pretty much anything, no one really knows..... but to me... it seems like there is this person who so obviously wants to be with this Andy person and is just like obsessed with him, and when the unknown person sees Andy with some girl, he gets all depressed and i think he gets mad at Andy and takes it out on him or possibly even her "HEY SHUT UP" so this unknown person pours their heart out to Andy and gets nuthing for it............ i could be wrong... i prolly am, but thats what i got out of it.... plus its a killer song, and i got a friend named Andy that is a major football stud and thats really ironic.... haha.... poor kid

I believe this song is about a coach / mentor / teacher telling andy not to give up what he's good at (some kind of sport) .. "the pain that you drain from love" .. his love life is taking the best of him .. it makes all kinds of sense .. because it hints about the verdict which links to the murder trilogy songs .. this appears to be the beginning ..

something interesting, Brandon went to high school at juab high school in nephi utah, look it up if you don't believe me, and i was recently at that high school there is a glass case in the wall about 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide or so, and in there are plaques of school achievements, and there are about 4 to a guy named andy messersmith for wrestling and football, so when bradon says "Leave your legacy in gold on the plaques that line the hall" that's probably what he's talking about

i think it's someone telling Andy not to worry, that there is more to life than high school. everyone else sees Andy only as this athletic hero, someone attracitve (should be getting all the girls) and popular, but Andy feels more depth than this.

now i'll tell you why i think this.

before each "hey shut up," i think the line is someone else talking to Andy and Andy wants to answer with a "hey shut up [that doesn't matter]." so "on the field, i remember you were incredible" for example. i picture a teacher, a parent, anybody coming up to Andy and the only thing they can say to him is that he was great in his sport. a girl goes to him and asks for his number. "hey shut up." and finally, the PRESSURE that he feels from everyone around him, that he has to "leave your legacy in gold on the plaques that line the hall." hey, shut up.

how do we know that Andy's feelings are more indepth than what people expect? "On the match with the boys, you think you're alone / With the pain that you drain from love" particularly "with the pain that you drain from love"

and then this person lets Andy know that he sees him as more than anyone else sees him ("you're a star in nobody's eyes but mine"). he hopes that Andy doesn't stop at his success in high school. high school is pretty superficial and an athlete with a girl (just "a" girl, not "your" girl or anything that makes this girl special) is also pretty superficial. so "promise me she's not your world" can go on to be "promise me that all this isn't where you'll stop" or something like that.

oh yeah, and this person is a stalker. this we can't ignore. "you think you're alone" and the obsession thing "in nobody's eyes but mine." i definitely find a double meaning in these lines, as you can see, but it's there nonetheless.

finally:
1. if you're bisexual, that means you like both sexes. you can like men and marry a woman.
2. you can't "just tell" a person's sexual preference from watching an interview. you can form a hunch but it's by no means an assured indicator.
3. if you're mormon, you are no longer allowed to have multiple wives (haha, in case you missed the memo).
