I thought it was about finding out that his girlfriend had dated the same girl he had, and "boyfriend" is the easiest way to put it into the English language since "girlfriend" for a girl means a friend who is a girl but "boyfriend" only ever means one thing.

"I'm pretty sure that he's not saying that the "boyfriend" is actually a female, that the two are lesbian. He's making fun off the girl's boyfriend (male, I believe), because he and the girl used to be together, she broke up with him and he wants to make her regret her decision."

I hadn't thought of it that way, but I like the interpretation.

I think he is trying to hook up with some girl and she says she already has a boyfriend, and he thinks that she has a loser boyfriend.

"Breaking my back just to know your name...you had a boyfriend, that look like a girlfriend I had...." I think basically he is saying "I tried so hard just to ask you out, only to find out you had a loser for a boyfriend." I don't think this has anything to do with gay people or gender confusion, he's just making fun of her boyfriend because he can't have her.

I think its about a girl going lesbian. she has a new "boyfriend" who looked like a girlfriend that he had in february of last year. so her new "boyfriend" is just one of his exes, meaning shes gone lesbian and so has his ex.

Personally and honestly. I was born in 1982 and as a child I remember hearing a song that sounded exactly like this one, although, I can find no record of if it even existed any where on the internet, but I do distinctly remember this song. Whatever. The song is about a guy who is infatuated with a girl. He trying to get her attention, but want she want give him the time of day. People are spreading a rumor, in which she is dating a guy who looks like a girl. That is what the guy is implying that the guy she is dating looks like a girl. In essence he is himself making fun of her boyfriend.

i think it simply means that he's saying since she "has a boyfriend who looked like a girlfriend" that he had, he's implying the boyfriend is not that attractive and is girly, and thats why he has potential to be with her. because if she'll date the guy who looks like a girlfriend he had, then why wouldn't she date him? hence "i've got potential"

then he says that heaven isnt close in a place like this...... heaven isnt close in hollywood....religion is forgotten because all people care about is money and fame, forgetting there morals, invading in peoples personal space
then he says anything goes but don't blink you might miss it .....he says in media anything goes, they will take anything to try and spread gossip anything to make money. then he says if you blink you might miss it because everyday they make up dirt about people and twist the truth

this song could be about talking to a girl at a club ow whereever who is toatall shruggin you off and not paying much attention to you whben you approach them so he throws the comments in her face that, " somebody told me that you had a boyfriend, who looked like a girlfriend, that i had in February of last year, its not confidential, I've got potential" its like being witty to get her attention but also claiming the rumours not secret or true but "ive got potential" being the question to the girl ... but then it backfires or dosnt work for some reason and its "ready lets role on to something new,taking its tole and im leaving without you" he never thought he let a rumour ru-in his moonlight etc, now he wants to tal about something new coz the rumour has gone bit too far,its just like a desperate attempt to want to try with a girl after making a fool of yourself "heaven aint close in a place like"- another take on not enjoying the night........but then i listen to song a again and it could mean something else..
its cleverly written to appeal to everyone :)and may not of even had a meaning as songs can be written out of nothing, i'm sure there is influences in it though from past experiences

Maybe with the boyfriend/girlfriend part, he's talking directly about the rumor that he was gay/bi. That it was ruining his 'moonlight' (limelight). Maybe he was trying to get with this girl who heard the rumor that he was gay/bi, and he is trying to assure her that he's not.

To me the basic idea or outline is that hes been waiting around to pick up this girl, and then he hears a rumour that shes dating or was dating one of his ex girlfriends. the end.

When did the rumour start about Brandon's bisexuality? Perhaps it is about that, just to show everybody there's something true about it?

Anyway, great song, I can't stop my feet from moving when I hear this song and Brandon looks great in the video by the way.
I think it's about a girl he really likes, he wants to take her home or something, but he can't because she's got a boyfriend, but he really likes her and he's trying to make her see that he's much better than that other boy who looks like freaking girl.
He thinks he's got more potential.. ?

So basically it has a hidden meaning. Most people think this song is about a relationship, but i think it's very different. I think its more of a wolf story such as "Little red riding hood". The line "You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend" is a reference to "little red riding hood" because the grandma looked like a wolf cus she actually was. The wolf ate the grandmother and wore her clothes, this symbolizes how the wolf was a transvestite and perhaps a homosexual.

come on, this girl is obviously a lesbian cause if somebody told him about this then they might have thought that the girl meeting the girl who he was singing about was a boy because she had short hair or whatever and assumed that the girl he's singing about was straight so thought it was her boyfriend and looked like his old girlfriend.
