all this bi sexual, transfestite bullshit is... well... bullshit! ... the whole sombody told me you had a boyfriend that looks like a girlfriend blah blah.... its meant to be as confusing as it is because its just highlighting how pathetic rumours are... the song is about brandon or some persona trying to pick up in a bar and seeing someone who he is interested in... then someone else tells him off these rumours and he can't decide whether to still go for it... "i said maybe, baby please".... "but i just dont know now"..... "when all i want to do is try" - the latter refers to his initial feelings in which he just wants sex...... and heaven aint close in a place like this is just pointing out the sinful place where he wants to commit this sinful act!..... btw i aint christian so im all for sex in sinful places.

I think this songs means that a guy once dated this girl and they broke up. There was rumors started and everyone knows what happens, the rumor gets really mixed up so when he hears the rumor it is like his ex is dating a guy that looks like his girlfriend he had in february when in reality the girl is probably dating a guy he doesn't like but when the he said, she said things get going, the rumor gets alittle crazy.

All this gender relationship stuff confuses me so much that I want to go cry in the shower... But I'm going with the most realistic interpretation that the "boyfriend" is a woman who dumped the singer for a woman, started by a rumour. So basically, she dumped him to become a lesbian.

did anyone read the interview where brandon says he thinks it's a good pick up line (Somebody told me that you had a boyfriend that looked like a grilfriend that I had in February of last year) and that it's just kind of a fun song about dancing and picking up girls?? cuz i did...and believe me folks...he's not gay. he's very much in love with his wife but he does enjoy writing from a gay perspective...

have to say accoustic version dne on virgin radio is brilliant. sounds sooo different. I remember listnin to this in yr 9 b4 ne1 got into the killers and loads of pple said it was crap, strange how like year or so l8r they all loved it!! not bein funni loveisblind but u do sound as if u no him personally do u actually no him or is this stuff frum interviews?? Coz a lot of pple often have fun makin stuff up in interviews. Ull find that theyll hve contradicted themselves in a few interviews tis funni! So i wuldnt take interview as gospel.

I think when he says "I ve got potentiol, he means he has potential in the bes so to speak. I think it is about him trying to pick up a girl. The chorus, I don't know, I think it could be him saying "We have both cheated on our partners, but who cares? It is not confedential!"

Sounds like a diss to me. The singer is jealous of this one chick's boyfriend, he thinks he's God's gift to women, etc, so he says her boyfriend looks like a pansy. Then he tries to get her to hook up with him.

what the heck?? People should stop basing their interpretations just on the lines:

That's just a rumour as already stated in the song and a rediculous rumour at that.

I agree with dlewis' thoughts on this song (see top post on this page).

The guy is just tryin to hook up with a girl and he's not gonna let a stupid rumour stop him.

i think he meets a girl at a party who he really likes, but he blows her off when she tells him her name because hes heard stupid rumors about her. the song is him begging for a second chance because he realizes how dumb that was...

this is,i think, the best line of the whole song. it means that you should always take chances and not be afraid of right/wrong or what people are going to think of you, becuase you might miss out of something awesome. this goes for meeting someone at a club or dating someone you dont tihnk you should date,etc.

Hah I thought it was about this girl he meets and tries to hook up with, but it turns out she's seeing one of his ex girlfriends so he's like, "wheyy, can I join in?" which anyone would admit WOULD be pretty fun..

I think the song refers to lesbianism "Who looked like a girlfriend", only "looked" cos the "somebody" who told him isn't sure. The guy is disspointed because he was hoping they had achance together "breaking my back just to know your name"... but now he is ridculed as her sexuality is "not confidential".... Jst my thoguths :-S

Its not confidential, and he's got potential (rushing and rushing around).

So its ok.

Ok... cant get this song outa my head! Neway I think that maybe this song is maybe taking a poke at how rediculous some rumors and gossip can be. Because he keeps saying "somebody told me" over and over again and that's all he has to go on that the rumor might be true. And then apart about not letting it "ruining his moonlight" is more like he's not gonna just let gossip make him unhappy.

I agree with feisty irish girl, that they are definitely in a bar, or maybe a strip club which is a pretty low place- hence "heaven aint close". The guy is makin fun of her boyfirnd aying he looks like a girl, and so she should go out wiht him. They are dancing, and he's spent at least 17 songs getting her to dance with him. He's using silly pick up lines like "its not confidential, Ive got potential." and such.

This song could mean so many things, even the boys from the band said they aren't quite sure. I just think it means he sees a hot chick blah blah blah, somebody told him she 'had' a boyfriend who looks like a girl friend... that he had in feb of last year... most meaning he had long hair back then. I think. I love the third verse. However, I can not give you a meaning for it.(because I don't know myself)
