I think that the chorus might mean that when he says "you had a boyfriend who looked like a girlfriend that i had in feb. of last yr." that someone might have had a sex change?!..yes..no!..haha

I just thought this song was about trying to pick up a girl in a bar. Her old boyfriend had longer hair (for a guy) and his old girlfriend had shorter hair (for a girl). Since their taste ran similiar they should hook up.

Really. I have no clue, thought it was about trying to hook up at a bar.........

I can't help but not take this song seriously. It is sung with a lot of emotion like the rest of the band's songs, but the lyrics just are silly.

I think this is song about a rumour that he heard (rumours could be true or not true) about his girlfriend cheating on him with his old girlfriend that he used to go out with February. Which would make his girlfriend a lesbian or straight but the boyfriend would be a transvestite. Weird!!

Anyhoo in the song he says "Bring it back down, bring it back down tonight
Never thought I'd let a rumour ruin my moonlight"

Then when he says "Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this" means that he can not experience bliss which such an issue, so he has to move on.

I thought he was trying to insult his ex when he said "You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year" It seems like he's kind of trying to make fun of her by telling her that her boyfriend looks like a girl. I dont know, just my opinion.

yea, i just think this song is about:

this person, a boy, is trying to hook up with this chick at the bar, and his waited 17 tracks to make a move on her, and wa starting to be fed up, his trying to but can't, and by heaven aren't close in a place like this means, u can't get everything your way. and then someone told him that she had a bf, and his not goin to let the rumour ruin his moonlight.
the chorus in which you guys are confussed about is, that her bf, if the rumour was correct, might just look like a girl, and then he kind of gave up, he has more potential then that.
the 2nd verse kinda stumps me a bit, but he might have gave up, and his leaving without her...don't know.
this is him pleeding with the girl that he can get her, he doesn't know, he wants to try...something like that for the third verse, and yea, thats just what i think, most probably wrong, like i always am, but u get that sometimes

I like to think that this song is about trying to pull a girl and finding out she's a lesbian and went out with one of your exes... but thats because i went out with a male friend's ex girlfriend once... ooh he was so shocked lol. Although I like to twist song meanings about to relate to me. Great song though!

I think the guy likes a girl and they are in a club and someone tells him that she may have dated one of his ex girlfriends while he was still with her. Then he tries to decide if he still wants to pick her up or not…but maybe she doesn’t want to because of the ex girlfriend. I think in the 2nd verse he feels that the rumour has taken its toll on the chance of him hooking up with her, so he leaves…..maybe she follows him outside and “all he wants to do is try”. I think “bring it back down” is him wanting to forget the rumour and come back down to earth – to reality. “Rushin around” is him trying to find out if the rumour is true or not, chasing his friends around the club to see if they know anything about it. Very confusing song, but it makes me want to dance!

i was reading an interview with the killers and the interviwer was telling brandon how a lot of people have different opinions on what this song is about and he simply sed that the best way to really connect with the song and find out wat it is by writing down the choros on a piece of paper in a straight line and read it over and over again.

This song is so disco! ;) It makes me wanna dance every time and when it played at a party last weekend the whole dance floor was full of people, it's a great high-energy song.

Makes me think of the warm summer nights spend with my friends dancing at parties. The two beats just before every chorus just make you wanna sing along and those 80s synthesizers are great fun!

I basically just think he's just trying to make fun of her new boyfriend who maybe looks a bit girlish (might be because of long hair or something), but I may be wrong.

Um it means he is gay i mean read more of there lyrics....."some body told me you had a boyfriend who looked like a girl friend i had in febuary of last year" he had a "girlfriend" that was really a guy in drag and then he took all of his girl stuff off and hes a guy now..and when he says "its not confidential" meaning its not a secret hes gay
